That's not even a debate that makes sense. It's apples and oranges. They're different sports. But they're both sports. And no, MMA is not a real form of fighting either. It's also like an agreement. Boxing gloves are not "pillows". You can hit much harder with boxing gloves on than with bare knuckles. Boxing gloves also make your hands heavier. When you get hit hard with gloves, you can feel your whole head shifting and it hurt "in the brain". With bare knickles, only the impact point hurts, on the skin and tissues under it. As someone who has been practicing kick-boxing for few years, I'd rather be punch with bare knuckles than with boxing gloves on.

Id love to see boxing make a big comeback. I grew up watching guys like Ali, George Foreman, Larry Holmes, Mike Tyson, etc and the excitement that came with the sport was awesome. Boxing isnt like that anymore. And the void from the lack of boxing has pushed me towards MMA, but I just cant get into it. The brutality in it is just too much for me.

If you do to much bobbing, weaving and shoulder rolling you will get head kicked. An example of this would be the famous headkick knock out of Leon Edwards over Kamaru Usman where Edwards fainted a punch and Usman believed in the faint and slipped it right into a left headkick. There is a reason why the Philly Shell guard isn't used in Kickboxing or MMA, it's because you can't shoulder roll a headkick. Another example of the extremely specialised nature of boxing would be the stance, which makes you extremely vulnerable to leg kicks. The truth is Boxing is an extremely specialised ruleset that produces plenty of stuff that doesn't actually work in a real fight against another skilled fighter, every combat sport has it, Muay Thai has a stance that makes you vulnerable to takedowns, BJJ has positions that don't work when the opponent can strike you, Wrestling has the low stance and extremely specialised pinning positions which are useless in a real fight and Judo has huge high comitment throws that often end up with the thrower getting rolled through and ending up on the bottom.

"The actual Sport of Fighting" does not have much in common with REAL self defense or street fighting where you don't have lots of space to do spinning kicks, you are mostly up close and you can not hold people on the ground in elaborate leg twists as there is a group of them and they will demolish you and the person thsemelves will be attacking. A lot of fighting also is not life and death, bar fights, muggings, street arguments, disputes at a barbecue etc, people are not usually trying to kill each other, doing spinning back kicks or stamping and punching on each others heads like is common in UFC. They just brawl. Boxing is super effective at the most common type of civilized fighting and knocking opponents out quickly and efficiently, and because it only focuses on punching and only 4 punches, those punches become exremely high quality. Kickboxing, ground-wrestling and MMA are not really how something is going to go down in 95% of cases. Its going to be a quick, brief exchange or two

"The actual Sport of Fighting" does not have much in common with REAL self defense or street fighting where you don't have lots of space to do spinning kicks, you are mostly up close and you can not hold people on the ground in elaborate leg twists as there is a group of them and they will demolish you and the person thsemelves will be attacking.
A lot of fighting also is not life and death, bar fights, muggings, street arguments, disputes at a barbecue etc, people are not usually trying to kill each other, doing spinning back kicks or stamping and punching on each others heads like is common in UFC. They just brawl.
Boxing is super effective at the most common type of civilized fighting and knocking opponents out quickly and efficiently, and because it only focuses on punching and only 4 punches, those punches become exremely high quality.
Kickboxing, ground-wrestling and MMA are not really how something is going to go down in 95% of cases. Its going to be a quick, brief exchange or two
