Thank you so much for this video! RTCW was my first PC game, and I always wanted to learn something new and interesting about IT. I still hope that one day we will all get alpha and demo versions of this game.
I played Return to Castle Wolfenstein a year ago for the first time. It was decent, some cool memorable gameplay, would have been such a replayable game back in the day. It's interesting that I didn't know the Egypt levels were cut and put in later; I played the PS2 version. Apparently in other editions there were dogs and co-op, which you most certainly already know but I find the differences really interesting.
Tides of War on the Xbox was more or less the definitive edition. It had the Egypt levels from Operation Resurrection on the PS2, coop, the shotgun weapon and new enemies.
they were probably inspired by the Normandy beach scene from saving private Ryan as this game started development around the same time that movie came out
Cannot believe it's taken 19 years to find this... It might be worth exploring the console versions of the game as they may contain completed files and extras missing from PC. If only someone leaked an alpha build because the early content looks so good.
The cut training text files can be seen in the pak0.pk3 file. During the early previous decade, I already discovered them, but well, no map files for it, only the text files...
They need to make a sequel to this. Not that "Wolfenstein New Collossus" crap. I want my mummies , zombies, and jump startling lopers and super soldiers back. I can play this game over and over and over and not get bored of it.
@@justaname325 No, he isn't, mate, he's Japanese. There was a character similar to him in the 'Wolfenstein 2009' release, known as the 'Veil Assassin'. Screenshot here: i.imgur.com/POdp6sH.jpg
I thoroughly enjoyed RTCW, but man... that cute Nazi Ninja looks AMAZING! I mean, he has a cute lizard-looking mask, adorable little shurikens and even an Imperial Japanese flag with a swastika on his suit. I mean, damn.... whoever designed that dude deserves a medal.
Holy shit ! Never knew these things/concepts were even there in earlier versions. It was really cool seeing the history of this RTCW 2001 which is also my favorite one out of all of them . P.S: Thanks for accepting my steam friend req. Keep up the good work! Peace!
You can clearly see how their visual ideas were already formed at time and will find their way later in series. Anyway I'm happy with original as it is with all its consistency between sci-fi, grunt fighting and paranormal.
Now that I think about it, wouldn't it be cool as hell to have the console exclusive Egyptian Ras-il Hadid levels ported over to the PC version properly? I know there was a movement to do it on a Russian Wolfenstein forum years ago, but nothing came of it.
0:20 - Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) appears in RealRTCW mod. 0:37 - This knife is - imho - very similar to knife from Project IGI. Cool and interesting.
I wonder if the team developing Wolfenstein 2009 had access to this, at least the ninja enemies are kinda similar, of if they had no idea and came up with it on their own. Still no Wolfenstein like Return to Castle Wolfenstein, great video really interesting. On another not, is the MP40 gunshot sound effect different in the console releases, or do they just sound different because of different hardware? I have the PC and PS2 versions, and it sounds "meatier" on the PS2 I think.
Да, тем более что исходный код игры давным давно опубликован. А исходный код это самый важный ресурс игры, нет смысла скрывать ранние промо версии, когда уже сами исходники опубликованы.
@@agamefan4481 it would make sense, given how the nazis were allied with the japanese, would be cool to fight the japanese imperalist army in the wolfenstein series

На это намикает тот уровень с Е3 и если бы можно было вернутся на 20 лет назад и показать разработчикам успех их творения они точно сделали все что хотели ну и так игра очень крутая тут уже убедился не один человек.

It's a kind mining archeological research on Castle Wolfenstein code about origins.
I found the 'Enigma' machine when I was making my HD pack and so I textured that as well :) . Great video, mate, thanks for sharing it 👍🏻 .
the "E3 2001" footage at 3:33 is actually E3 1999

Bet you are the same guy who hates Doom 3.
Just like the dark knights in RTCW, Wolfenstein was resurrected as a hideous, evil being when it finally came back.
I'm guessing that you would hate Doom Eternal as well, lmao.
We need a Nightdive remaster for RTCW, one that includes the Tides of War stuff and maybe some cut content.

Those early Thompson and Mauser models look better than the final ones by a landslide

honestly i kinda like how the game doesnt have a tutorial

its so interesting to see the weapons had no reload system just like the classic wolfenstein 3D
