  • The Camera Store's Chris Niccolls had a chance to test two of this year's most anticipated cameras: The X20 and X100s. The X100 and X10 were some of our favourite digital cameras, do these improvements make it worth upgrading?

    the laggy screen of the x20 was due to using power saving mode .. turn on the performance mode (in the menu) and lags are gone ;) ... i bought this camera mainly because of finder that i realy like to use. informations displayed in it is more than enough i needed from any kind of camera ... only details & macro im photographing trough screen

    If you love the 35mm focal length, than absolutely. You will sacrifice a bit of resolution and video quality, but for me the X100S is the best camera out there if you are okay with the prime lens.

    There is some X100S footage at 8:30 in the video. The quality is not fantastic, lots of artifacting. The lack of full manual control is an issue as well, the camera selected a very fast shutter speed that led to the jerky looking footage seen in the review.

    Well, there's a market for fixed lenses. There's quite a few photographers who prefer a fixed ('prime') over a zoom lens. Generally, these fixed / primes are faster at maximum aperture.
    Basically... this is a love letter to photographers who prefer a fast, sharp, fixed lens over a slow, blurry, zoom. I'm one of them.

    I think your capture rate of usable photos would definitely go up in a sports situation. That and the extra high ISO performance could be worth it. Plus the camera would feel 100% familiar.

    I picked up an X100s last week. Start up time seems almost instant. Shutter lag is minimal. I am not sure on the AF yet. I have shot about 600 portraits at social events and I'd say about half are back focused. In every single case the camera indicated the focus was on the persons face yet it clearly focus several meters behind the person. In my opinion the 5D M3 with a good L lens is far superior albeit a lot heavier and more expensive.

    At 3:05 The last shot with the lens cap on. However with the optical mode of the hybrid viewfinder. The optical viewfinder of hybrid mirrorless cameras doesn't show what passes through the lens like dSLR cameras and is easy to make this mistake.

    Missed the price part... you reviewers often neglect that part thinking that money is not an issue... but it IS! These guys sell for a high price, quite higher than some of their competitors. Maybe this would not hinder you from going for them, but it sure would keep me and I'm sure many others away. Other than that a really great in depth review as always. Keep it up!

    ya know, i had a real toss up between a few cameras mainly the canon g15, nikon 7700, and the fuji x20, and after watching this video ive decided the x20 wins it for me perfectly. thank you, I think this cleared any doubts I had about it.

  • @TheCameraStoreTV
    @TheCameraStoreTV  11 лет назад

    Video mode is okay but you only get ISO and Aperture control. Your shutter speed is going to go where it wants which means jittery video without NDs. The quality is decent but FUJI definitely did not make it a priority.
    Chris @ The Camera Store TV

  • @OxKing
    @OxKing 11 лет назад

    The X20 hasn't better Dynamic Range then the X10, because there were a 6MP EXR Mode for that, but the X20 has only an ISO Mode for that, which simply lift the tone curve of the shadows up and also lift noise in those areas. And the Noise Reduction on the X20 is much more agressiv then the X10 and smears details, the X10 leaves untouched. Image Quality got worst, but AF and View Finder have improved. The X100s seems to be an real step up, but the x20 X-Trans is a mixed bag.

    I'm looking into these camera's, mainly the x10 and the x20. Since the x20 is out, the x10 has dropped it's price to a very affordable point. Still, the x20 does look a lot better and has a rangefinder where the x10 only has an evf. My question: is it worth to spend the extra cash on the x20. It's roughly a €200 difference between the two.

    Great review. When choosing a compact mirrorless camera like x20, compact size is one of the big factors. I wonder when compared to Sony rx100, which one would you say is more pocketable? It looks like x20's lens protrudes more than the Sony.

  • @igetsmart
    @igetsmart 11 лет назад

    glad to see art filters in X20 - but very disappointing in not having control in video - seems at ISO 3200 the image was barely useable - so i think RX100 still is the king of small cameras - but I should receive my X20 in few days - it has the great looks - but it uses a lens cap :( such a pain for a pocket camera - not sure if I will upgrade my X100 - yes, seems autofocus is faster but they should learn manual focus peeking from Sony, even the little RX100 - so was hoping for more from Fuji

    Fabulous review, as always. I have the X10 and the X100 as well as the X-Pro1. I have used my X100 for sports and while the focus isn't Canon Mark IV or even 7D, I have gotten enough usable images to have them used in the large metropolitan daily that I shoot for. Would it be worth it for me financially to switch to the X100s...that is still the subject of much debate!

    Wicked review, thank you! How is the zoom and the focus on the x20 as compared to the X100s and the rest of the market? I'm looking for an all around performer for an exchange semester in Morocco. Compared to everything I've seen, the x20 has the best sensor size, autofocus and frame-rate in a really compact package (super important-trying to avoid bringing the D90 though it is aging) without of course going to the X100s.
