    I just wanted to mention how amazing BSJ is as a teacher with the questions he asks when coaching. I'm a 3k player and the questions in this video were interesting and challenging for me to answer, whilst when he coaches 5k players i don't really understand what he is asking and in the 1k coaching the questions he asked seem too straightforward to me. It just shows how good BSJ is at helping players of different skill levels.

    I'm not by any means a super support player, or player in general, but what helped me get better at learning good smoke opportunities is to buy a smoke waaay earlier than I need to, and then just keep it in my backpack. It may even go 8-10 minutes unused, but when that moment comes that I can say, "this seems like a good smoke moment," I'm not stuck waiting another 50 seconds to fly out the smoke and by that time the opportunity was missed. The more you practice just having a smoke, even if at first it means losing an important 80gold for you early on on as a support, it will help you become more aware of good moments to smoke, and the beneficial effects the provide (or why they are bad if you mess up) if you already have one ready. Just buy it and throw it in your backpack. There will be a moment to use it, and if you use it poorly and die you'll be able to learn why it was bad. If you are always flying it out late, or forgetting about it all together you'll never learn how smokes can be helpful.

      You're only trash if you're not enjoying the game. You can be 7k or 2k or 500mmr but if you're enjoying the game and not being toxic then you're probably better than 90% of the players in the fanbase. Choose to study 1 thing per week like basic warding, when to fight when to play defensive, itemization, or even just focusing on learning a hero. If you want, watch high mmr pubs and pick player perspective on a player similar to your role and compare the differences of how he moves vs. you and you'll always learn. You already climbed to more than 4 times your base mmr, wp!

    About the question: do you learn more by watching pro replays or your own replays? It actually depends on how actively you are watching the replays.
    If you are watching casually just to pick a thing or two, watching pro replays is better because you might just pick up good habits to mimick. If you are very actively watching the replay and questionning each and every decision that was made or wasn't made, watching your own replays is extremely valuable because not only will it help you understand where you made mistakes or inaccuracies, but it also helps your formulate plans based on your own games and situations you typically are in. Also, by directly watching at your mistakes and your strong points, you will be much more humble during your games, not putting the blame on your teammates instead of focusing on what you can actually do to increase your winning chances (I had a QoP game two days ago where I was like 6/3/10 @15mn, my team was feeding. I was also most likely the one playing the worst and knew it, so I was trying to do something good. I didn't win my lane against an ember spirit (which had better lane mechanics than me. Actually watching the replay I ended up out-networthing him by 10mn but it was due to him missing last hits, he should have won by 500netwroth easily), and I was only playing reactively because I never knew where to make things happen. I was literally the worst QoP one wants to have in his team. Understanding what I should be doing helped me not start thinking that my teammates suck because it was very clear to me that I was not succeeding in doing what I was supposed to do and it was mostly because of that that my team was feeding, and I was constantly trying to find things to do that would help my team, instead of rejoicing on my beautiful KDA).
    When I actively rewatch a replay of mine, it takes me around 2 hours for a 40mn game. I do pause everytime it seems to me a decision had to be made (a TP, gank opportunity, rune control, map control, item choice, formulating plan, adapting plans depending on what the opponent is doing...etc...). This helps me much more to become a better player than dissecting a pro or top mmr player (I sometimes do this though, but it's when I'm looking to learn something specific. for example a specific hero I'll find one of the top dotabuff ranked players of that hero or a pro I like that is know for this hero. I'll soon try to learn to pos4 and I'll try to get my hands on PoV replays of jerax playing because that is really the type of roaming that I want to learn...etc... but I think watching replays for watching replays won't get me very far. Actively watching and questioning everything is the key.
    I did that a while ago when I was learning Tinker (which is my most played and loved hero), and having put all that work into the hero is surprising. 3/4 years ago when tinker had his glory days in pro play I could tell quite fast if the Tinker was going to carry his team, get carried, or lose the game. I was correct 90% of the time. when marches were inefficient or their farming rotations were inefficient was quite clear that they would not carry the game themselves. And then after the first fight with their blink dagger, based on the very first blink usage in fight, I would be able to tell if they will lose the game for their team or not. And these guys are obviously so much stronger than me, but there is some knowledge that I did have that they didn't (because they have to train so many things they can't just learn every single intricacy of every ultra specific hero when they need to have a hero pool and train strategy for pro scene and team coordination...etc...). I'm giving this example just to tell that actively watching replays and questionning everything helps you understand a LOT of things.
    And then you need to play your games while really focusing on one aspect that you isolated from watching replays to try to make it a habit, whether it's a mechanic or a way of thinking about the game, or some decision making or whatever.

      I think attitude you have will lead you to higher brackets.
      I personally was watching my Nature’s Prophet games, I had 42% winrate, I liked that hero but I could not play it...
      When i was watching my replays I was questioning e v e r y single move i was making.
      Dude nowadays I pick him, from 10 minute I control the whole map, I decide where enemies go, what do they do, everything. I become the real rat just by realizing my moves, now I do every move on purpose, getting their attention, making them leave teamfight to defend their raxs and etc. That works!

    • @ApiolJoe
      @ApiolJoe 4 года назад

      @@giorgikhutiashvili4774 I think that it's by questionning everything you do that you slowly get your own answers to specific situations, and after that, you don't have to question yourself for more than 2 seconds during a game at it has become second nature. Or you know, it's a question to which you already found an answer, so you don't have to invent the wheel on the fly.
      The way you describe prophet is exatly what I feel as Tinker. I tried playing np long ago but didn't like him, he felt boring to me, idk why. I should give him another shot though, his W will basically allways be a good spell, one has to know how to play np I think.

    I've played over 6000 games of Dota and watching this made me feel so damn stupid lol. I totally get the advice he's giving but I spend my days writing code for a living and spending this many brain cells on a video game is beyond my capabilities lol.

    What makes it hard to apply the concepts over and over is that your teammates most of the time they're not collaborating for you to do the right thing, then you go do the wrong thing, mess things up and lose the game, even simply farming jungle it's not a remedy, maybe grouping up could be the remedy, but you'll always be underfarm. If you're lucky, your pos 3, 4 and 5 will always be searching oportunits to pressure one side of the map, creating space, and then you're able to accomplish the success with this teammates (sometimes unconcious) collaboration.

      That's why the picking phase is so important, if you don't trust your supports you should pick a carry that can solo the lane, but its hard for ppl to play right those heroes, otherwise you would probably not being complaining. Learn to play alone, be self sufficient.

  • @nightmareTomek
    @nightmareTomek 4 года назад

    The majority of players want to carry, eat all the farm and get all the kills. A support coaching would be cool, so more people play it.

      maybe it's because he's watching so much gamerleap content before this coaching? cz mechanically archon to ancient even sometimes love divine ranks gap are not that far, but efficiency and in-game focus that makes the difference.
