I used to have this same belief about soul = conscious, 1- According to my understanding of islam , when we were not sent to this dunya , and when we said to ALLAH to grant us this schema and test us, ALLAH has said in the Quran i asked mountain , asman etc , but they refused, and Human beings came and said we want to be tested, so according to this mountains an d asman etc have also soul, Similarly other animals who has no conscious , can we say they don't have soul?

There is a big difference between human soul and soul of other living things . Human soul is known as "roh e rabbani" .
Another example is that both bicycle and motorcycle have two wheels but one has an extra element "engine" which makes it superior to other
