    On the output transistors, no replacements or substitutions correct? Can you elaborate on what the workaround is?

    I have a 1080 also as well as a 1250 and a few other vintage receivers. I always thought something was wrong with the 1080 because of how long it takes to come out of protection. I guess it's ok. Thanks!

      For whatever reason, the 1080 likes to take a little longer to come out of protection! My 1280 takes 4-5 seconds and the 1080 is 10 seconds +! Thanks for watching!!

    Very informative video. Do you have a video showing what it takes to replace the output transistors on this unit ? I'm guessing the same thing would apply to the SX-1280. Thinking about purchasing the SX-1280 or the 1250 but now it may be between the 1080 and 1250. Leaning more toward the 1250 because of the power output transistors on these 80 series. Only drawback with the 1250 is THD is not as good as the1280 or 1080. Does THD only effect soud quality at high volume or at all levels of volume ?.Thanks!

      Thanks for the kind words! I don't have a video yet, but I do plan on making one! The 1080 and 1280 share the same "unobtanium" output transistors. That's a tough decision. The 1080 is one of my favorite receivers, and I haven't had the opportunity to work on/listen to a 1250 just yet, but they are highly regarded. Some say they are the best in the Pioneer line up! The lower THD number the better. I remember reading somewhere that anything under 1% THD is not audible at normal listening levels. If you are really cranking at an extremely high dB, it's probably unlikely you'll hear something. For me, my hearing isn't what it used to be🤣. I've had my 1280 shaking the house and still sound crystal clear. In my opinion, I wouldn't worry too much about THD. I'd focus more on what speakers you plan on driving, where you'll be listening, speaker placement, can the speakers handle the power output of a 1080/1250 etc. That's just my opinion! Let me know if you have anymore questions! Thanks for watching!

      @@TinkeringWithT the 1080 and 1280 use different output transistors.. i restored 2 of each last summer. i've never heard them referred to being pioneer's best but people like what they like. i wouldn't own 1. i did not care for either. i've got an sx1010 and an sx3900 more for nostalgia than anything else.

    I have a 1080 and this reciever is beautiful it's been totally restored on every board this thing sounds so good better than my Sansui 9090DB and it's also in mint condition plus sometimes I'll add a stereo Amplifier to it just for a little more juice to drive all 4 my Kenwood KL 777's I know that sounds crazy but I'm a professional DJ what do you expect 😂 I been DJing since 1978 yeah that's a long time I remember the Stereo Wars like it was yesterday 😂. Plus I enjoyed this video thanks plus I have a pioneer Sx 980 that needs a front plate glass a friend of mine gave it to me do you have any suggestions 🤔.

      That's super cool!! nothing wrong with adding a little more "umph" to get those speakers jumping! The 1080 should have no problem filling a room with sound. No way! Are you still DJing events? That's very cool, and not easy to do! I wish I was alive to see the stereo wars firsthand. Would have been awesome! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. As for the 980, nice score! wish my friends would give me old receivers. Your best bet would be to check Ebay for someone selling parts off of a 980. I'm not 100% but the glass may be the same between a bunch of different models!

      @@TinkeringWithT yeah I've been looking and I think your right that they use this same glass for the sx series and yeah the stereo wars was awesome Plus I was in the Marines overseas when this was going on and we were buying everything and yeah doing gigs these days is still hard with all the gear but thankfully I don't have to carry records anymore 😂.

      Glad to hear! hopefully you can find one for pretty cheap! That's awesome, thank you for your service!! One of my neighbors is super into Dj'ing. It looks very hard to do! And I bet having everything on a harddrive makes it much easier to "carry" your tracks around! ha!

    I have a Pioneer SX 1080 receiver. How do I get a wiring diagram for connecting a Dual 606 Turntable, a ADC Sound Shaper One Ten IC stereo frequency equalizer, a Bose 901 Active Equalizer and a Hitachi D900 Stereo Cassette Tape Deck to the Pioneer SX 1080?

    • @TinkeringWithT
      @TinkeringWithT  2 года назад +1

      To plug in the EQ, you'll have to plug it into the tape in/out, then flip the switch on the tape monitor to listen to the Eq'ed music. Check out this page in the service manual that shows how to hook up other equipment to the 1080. Thanks for watching! audio.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/pioneer/sx1080.html?p=6

    How much $ too refurbish one approximately high & low ? Please and thank you

    • @TinkeringWithT
      @TinkeringWithT  2 года назад

      I've seen kits on Ebay that have all the capacitors, transistors, etc for the 1080 for around $190. I usually order all my parts from mouser.com, and I'm sure if went and priced out all the parts it'd be around the same. The high side may be 300$ depending on part availability. But I can't see it being much over 300$ for a refurbish. I think I spent around 220$ to refurbish my SX-1280 completely! Let me know if you have any other questions! Thanks for watching!
