    It took me a minute to realize what you meant by "green manure". The soil on my property is pretty dead, but it does grow weeds very well. I mow them every spring and till them into the soil. I never thought of it as green manure, but hearing you talk about it made me realize that is exactly what it is!

      It is a funny term isn't it haha. I use some weeds as mulch too :) although I try to get to them before they start to seed/take over the place. There are so many options for green manure. Thanks so much for watching!

    Thank you. I’m just about to sow some sunflower snd mung bean green manure crops. I love all the side notes you give. You reminded me that I have a heap of old seeds that I can broadcast and see what happens. 💛🌻

    I’m wondering whether you might be able to even leave the roots in the soil and cut at soil level for less disturbance under the soil?
    Enjoyed listening to your thoughts and ideas👍🏻

      That's the smart way to do it. Grow it in place. Cut & cover if necessary to terminate depending on growth habits of the covercrop.

      Thanks Cathi! Ah it's been a difficult few weeks but keeping sane by making sure I get outside everyday and going for walks has really helped! Hope you're going okay during these crazy times xx

    G'day Robyn, thanks for sharing I've used lupin, and acacia for green manure in the past it works really well.
    I'll have to try get some pigeon pea seeds. Hope you and Scott are doing well in this craziness. I've been keeping busy in the garden and expanding the garden to be able to grow a lot more food.
    Stay safe and God bless you guys.

      Thanks Josh! Acacia is something I should definitely start growing more of! Yeah we're doing okay. Kind of got into a routine working from home but so sad that all of our planned camping trips had to be cancelled. Will have to set up a fire pit in the backyard. Hope you're enjoying all the time in the garden :) Stay safe!

    Awesome Robyn. I usually use a dry hay but I like this!

      But I also chop and drop like you said then I cover it up with cardboard and let it rest a few months before replanting

      @@HappyFarmsLa Cardboard would definitely help speed it up! Going to do that in a few areas :D

    How long after cutting down the green manure, do you have to wait before you start to planting there?

    • @thenaturepatch
      @thenaturepatch  3 года назад +1

      I usually just plant straight away and it doubles as a mulch ☺️
