    Congrats Magnet. Emotional video. You are amazing at capturing a thru hike on camera.
    The photo montage right before the terminus was powerful. Loved that you included a shot with Lambo (RIP).
    Congrats again.
    Peace and happy trails

    Congrats 🎉 So fun getting to watch you reach the Northern Terminus to complete this hike. Every video shows so much beauty and grit, you tell a story of love and determination with every step. These final images of the North Cascades are incredible and I think your description of the trail to this section as training for handling the Cascades is on point.
    I'm looking forward to your hike through the now-open Lionshead closure almost as much as some future date when I'll get to hike through there. One thing I learned from your journey is that I'll most likely not hike the entire PC;, I've probably still got the stamina, but I don't think I have the desire nor the attention span fort that long a haul. Maybe in sections, maybe. 🤔

      @JDPPDX  2 года назад +3

      Hey Mike! Thanks for your insight into what about this vlog stood out to you. I think you are spot on to notice the mental agony of the monotonous days that seem to drag on forever. I think I too lacked the attention span for a thru-hike, but I did it anyway, and that’s a take-away for me. That I can do something just because I committed to doing it, even if I was over it after just past the halfway point. And I know I’m not alone in feeling that way. Section hiking is much easier and more enjoyable, and better for your health. The main thing a thru-hike gives you that sections won’t, is the human bonds that form from being together with the same people for so long. That ended up for me, being the most powerful experience of the trip, and actually kept me going forward at times.

    • @memathews
      @memathews 2 года назад +1

      @@JDPPDX Yes, that human bond in the experience, I've noticed that during the six or more PCT Days I've worked and that does seem to propel some people into exceeding what they might otherwise enjoy. Very good observation.

    Magnet, thank you for making this vlog of your amazing journey and allowing us to share the experience with you. The journey and the excellent, EXCELLENT and honest documentation of it in the vlog and photos has been so enriching for me. I’ve been there alongside you and I’m glad you could feel the support we all sent you. Knowing the full range of highs and lows and the beauty you experienced has already affected me and my artwork and I’m sure it has affected others in many ways. CONGRATULATIONS, and THANK YOU.

      I’m glad I could share this experience with people who are receptive to seeing and experiencing it! Definitely, putting these together helped me explain what I was experiencing, even to myself. It forced me to take this jumble of thoughts and experiences and consolidate them into something that eventually resolves. So it was a good thing for me as well.

      @@JDPPDX I can understand that! Also I loved your music selections. It's really remarkable that you put so much of this together ON THE TRAIL!! Be well and keep sharing your adventures!

    Your adventure has been a beautiful one to watch. I’ve enjoyed every minute of your journey since hearing about you while section hiking an Oregon stretch Nobo from Crater Lake. A couple of thru hikers said to check you out… and I’m so glad I did! You’ve done a fantastic job capturing the moments! Thank you for keeping it real and for sharing all of them - the ups and the downs - with us.

    • @JDPPDX
      @JDPPDX  2 года назад +2

      Thank you Nancy! Do you happen to remember the names of the hikers that knew my vlog? Wonder if I hiked with them. My intention with this vlog was to share the mental journey of the trail. The extreme elation, and just the aimless, soul sucking days and everything in between. Also, the changes the trail makes to a person’s values. There are so many vlogs out there already that mostly focus on the very literal and superficial daily acts, but to me they don’t have a soul. I wanted this to have a soul.
      I still have one section to do. I’ll probably turn that into a recap of sorts of the whole adventure, and what it means after some reflection. Thanks again for following.

    • @nancygeorge4030

      I don’t recall the name(s) but I’m sure you probably hiked with them for a bit as when I was told to check out your channel, she said she and her friends would probably be in some of your vlog vids. There were 4 in their party at Thielsen (2 guys, 2 gals), and they had hiked with you before that. The one (gal) I spoke with the most was small-ish, kind of a strawberry blonde and wore a pink ball cap. Maybe that will help your recall. I have a picture of her and her crew at Windigo Pass, as my friend met us there and did trail magic for a couple days.

    Thank you for bringing us along! I've truly appreciated the opportunity.
    The immediate trek is thus concluded, but the grander adventure begins anew with each passing day.

      Thanks Mike! I did really want to document the beneath-the-surface part of this adventure in real time. Most vlogs don’t even go there at all, but it’s a huge, huge aspect to this adventure. Without that context, the walking seems kinda pointless. Cheers!

    I'm so proud of you and your accomplishment! It's been an amazing journey and thank you so much for taking us along. Your videos and narrative, with incredible music, brought us right there with you. The final episode was simply beautifully put together. You were able to convey the thrill, excitement and love for your trail family as you ended this part of your journey. I'll look forward to hearing from you in the days ahead, my friend. ❤

      Thanks for all your support over the last two years April! I’m glad a lot of the emotions come through in this. The ending was a collection of photos and video from me and others who were there filming and shooting. I’m glad to have this as a record of the events or I might just believe the whole thing was a dream!

    James! Enjoyed every episode - watching your journey unfold has been a highlight of this ‘22 winter (in Australia) for me.
    I’m sure filming & editing & uploading while on trail was a huge extra effort for you, and i want to acknowledge you for the quality of the production. Excellently balanced between reflective narration, simple scenery & people. Appreciated your slow & patient panning … for a photographer you also make a great videographer!!
    Can’t wait to see more of your stills work too (& maybe a 4k mini doco??)
    Congrats my friend.
    Thought of you every day, still do- my spirit was with you every step of the way. Clint

      Clint! I was glad to have your consistent support during this hike. So glad you enjoyed virtually following along. Thanks for the compliment on the production quality. True, it wasn’t easy to edit and post this at the time, but I’m glad I did now.
