In her defense, convenience stores in Japan are actually convenient (something that the rest of the world forgot), and the food there is actually relatively healthy compared to other countries' convencience store food.

I did an internship in Japan, specifically Okinawa, some years ago. If not for a nearby conbini and hotto motto, outside of a long walk/ bus/ taxi ride, procuring food would have been difficult, especially since my Japanese ability was virtually non-existent.

I can attest to this. The convenience store game in Japan is AAA quality. From everyday freshly ready made Bento's, snacks, bill payments and everyday stuff, they have it. Heck, they sometimes even have the latest console games at release day. No wonder I became kind of a shut in when I was in just Japan. Especially when there is a covenience store literally just besides my apartment I was living in. Literally just around 10 - 15 meters from my room and I will reach it. Konbini food is legit. It's cheap, it's fresh, and there are healthy choices. My last trip started with me being laid out in a machiya house with really bad bronchitis. I credit the konbini food, the energy jelly at the pharmacy, and a giant bottle of CC Lemon mixed with green tea for my swift recovery. I was also taking steroids, which I guess yeah probably helped. But the other stuff at least provided a comforting placebo effect!

Yeah konbinis have fresh prepped food for each meal. Obviously it's from a centralised kitchen then distributed, but that's no worse than any chain eatery or takeaway place. And those aren't just all fried foods too, they're the same dishes that the locals have. Variety-wise you can easily see maybe 10 types of onigiri and maybe 8-10 rice/noodle dishes, plus other sides. That doesn't include the sushi, the deep fried foods and the oden, nor the rest of the usual frozen/shelf-stable foods the konbini has. And a large chunk of these will rotate seasonally.
It's not a healthy diet by any means, but if you're sticking only to the fresh stuff and balancing out the options, I'd say it isn't too different from getting takeaway from an eatery every day (well, maybe ain't that great for the wallet, you're getting smaller portions for the same price in exchange for the convenience).

To her credit, konbinis are REALLY convenient. For foreigners, they're a life saver. Bentos are good, and if you have a Lawson, you found gold.

Konbini... more like... "Kronbinii..." I'll just leave. Lol at 7:32. She needed "Time" to process that. And the silence says everything. Anyways it's great to hear she's having a great time in Japan. She must be having a time of her life. Now question is... Did Kronii go with her or did Kronii leave Kronii at home?

Konbini food is good though. The ceiling in Japan isn't a lot higher than it. You're not getting fiber but you're not getting that anywhere else either.

@@mvbmvb They sell prepacked or cooked veggies just fine lol. It's more expensive than going to backalley grocers (don't worry, they're not dangerous) but perfectly servicable. Tip from me, backalley grocers in Japan are where REAL cheap fruits are sold, because they got dinged a bit and no longer qualify for supermarket and konbini. But would have been sold in any other country just fines.

Convenience stores are both stupidly expensive (more expensive than grocery stores!) and tiny here in Canada. If someone opens a convenience store chain that has stores twice as big and has Dollarama prices it would quickly take over the market here. At the moment there's a two headed monopoly on the market in Canada with only 7eleven and stores owned by Alimentation Couche-Tard which due to the lack of competition results in outrageous price fixing for products.

as someone who can and does prepare meals for myself BUT am content to rot my insides with convenient junk food, I understand Kronii's predilections.
While it's still cause for concern it's probably a massive step up nutritionally, and mentally with the variety of choices.
ik Kronii isn't reading clip channel comments but I offered to cook for Kaela and any other hololiver is welcome to join lmao.

I think Your konbini is super different from Japan konbini thou. They are not junk food, they are super healthy, they rorate daily, seasonal, even their KFC and hamburger has different recipice the word "junk food" in Japan is totally different standard compare to we know where.
