I’ve contacted two of my AZ representatives back home on the matter. John McCain and Jeff Flake. I explained it to them and asked that they please help put this on the agenda because it needs to end. I don’t know what it will do, but it’s worth a shot.
You know if Congress and the IRS didn't treat those who come forward as chumps, I'd have an easier time arguing with you. But as it is now, what can I say with a straight face?
It's actually pretty difficult to blog from a federal prison. There is little or no internet access. But there is a cumbersome email system. So I suppose if you blogged in the form of an email and then had someone on the outside post for you, you can blog from prison. Not sure how to monetize that.
So, how is the IRS going to put a resident citizen of the UK in a federal prison, Lenin? One that refuses to file s single paper or engage in any communication at all? Scare mongering from the likes of you is part of the problem.
It would be nice if Lenin could tell us all how the IRS is going to put a UK resident citizen in a US federal prison for failing to file forms to the USA?
Repealing FATCA would be great, but I fear if focus is only on FATCA, action to end citizenship based taxation wont get steam behind it. If FATCA is repealed it will alleviate some stress on reporting and allow banking to be easier for expats but the main disease would remain, citizenship based taxation. Do you expect it to be repealed in our lifetimes @IRS MEDIC?
John is truly one of the good guys and he is just loaded with integrity. I always learn something from him. I do need to make it a habit to keep a pen and paper when speaking with him. He has quite a talent for turning a phrase.
Agree. Although (if im not mistaken) if CBT is repealed and FATCA remains US expats will still be required to report foreign accounts. CBT and FATCA are both diseases.
What happens if you live outside the USA and your passport needs renewal, but you can't renew because you are on the list and live outside the USA. What if you want to do an offer in compromise or bankruptcy but can' return to the USA because your passport will not be renewed. Is like being stuck in limbo and never be able to come back to the USA. Or renounce your citizenship.
Every situation can be made better. You don't need to return to the US to file an Offer in Compromise. If you aren't hiring someone to help you settle a tax debt, however, I would strongly suggest a US- mailing address with mail-forwarding service. It would stink for the IRS to accept your offer but then never get the notice that they did!

You, my friend, are awesome! Thanks!
DO-NOT-FILE!

Thank you for the FACTA update. Do you know if there has been any progress in moving from Citizenship Based Taxation to Territorial Based Taxation?
Yes Tom there is. I think in a couple weeks we will update on that.
How likely is it that we will see the end of CBT?? That would stop the problem altogether.
