My trick for buying anything on Amazon that is temporarily out of stock is to order it, even though they say they're temporarily our of stock. They won't charge you until the item ships, and you are first in line once they come back in stock. That's how I got the Food Saver jar attachment, the Presto 23-quart pressure canner, packing cubes, etc.
The problem with this is that the option of ordering it anyway is not always there. It just shows out of stock. I think they allow the option only when they know for certain it will be available in the future
Food saver does that too...apparently... I ordered the jar sealer and didn't get order confirmation. After a week, I waited 30 minutes on hold for them to tell me that they didn't have it in stock but expect to get it. Why couldn't they tell me that?! But I got quite a bit, so it should last me quite a few years. Thank you so much for posting this, and I look forward to viewing your back catalog of videos.
I do a LOT of dehydrating on my own but there are still many products I choose to purchase. I just do not have the time to dry them all up with everything else I do and companies like this have industrial equipment better for drying high fat foods
Figure out which dehydrator you want. If you have Amazon Prime, put on wish list. If they have a spot sale for it, they notifly you. I got mine $66 instead of $99. I had money since I was keeping back some each month. It was a certain amount of hour time limit.

You can use these powders to make biscuits. 1cup self rising to 1 cup cream (use powder, I have used sour cream powder from thrive and got an amazing sour dough flavor). Love it
The sour cream powder and whole milk powder are a great addition to making homemade instant oatmeal. I use freeze dried fruit (raspberry or strawberries are great!), sour cream powder, whole milk powder, and grind about half of the whole oats, chop the other half. I “wing it” with the recipe...as I’m sure you do, too, and it is deeeelicious! The sour cream powder might sound like an odd ingredient, but that little tang it adds is amazingly delicious.

Hi, I'm in the UK and it's almost impossible to get the vacuum sealer tops. Well I could have got them on eBay but over $100 seemed a bit expensive. So this is what I did. A Pyrex soup dish, cereal bowl fits a 500m l jar. Made a bag using my vacuum sealer. 1. Make your bag. 2. Put your 500ml jar filled with whatever...inside bowl, on its side. 3. Put bowl and jar etc inside your bag. 4. Put the bag with everything inside into the vacuum sealer, don't seal bag but vacuum. You might want to hold onto the bag as it vacuums but it worked. I thought the vacuum had cracked the Pyrex dish but it was the jar sealing.
I have been making my homemade mayonnaise for years and I have used liquid coconut oil. I think I will try the 1:1 ratio of avocado oil and coconut oil. I just have started using avocado oil for cooking after watching you video on olive oil getting rancid when cooking at high temps. I have started stocking up little by little as my budget allows. I think getting some powdered cream is a good idea especially when making homemade hot chocolate. I have a problem ingesting diary except for butter and cream.
I use some of these for day to day life. I agree that it's good to incorporate shelf stable things in your world so that when doing so is not a choice you aren't feeling deprived and you've already mastered using them. Growing up we kept them around for emergencies because hurricane season can isolate you when you live in a small town as I did back then but we also used them when we ran out of fresh things and didn't want to be bothered with going to the store 🤭. . I just noticed they carry a vinegar powder...I had no idea that existed but I think I might pick it up in my next Amazon purchase.
Absolutely! Practice gets us familiar with them and also helps us know if we like them enough to want to stock up on more. I think too many people buy long term food storage just for emergencies but then when something happens, they have no idea HOW to use it so thank you for adding this important comment. Vinegar powder...interesting!
@@RainCountryHomestead yeah the vinegar powder was something I recently noticed. I'm not sure if it's a new product or just new to me. Either way I put it in my cart. I'm thinking...cleaning & antifungal products, and soaps - naturally are first up for my experiments. That and powdered worcestershire..I may need both in my life🤔. Vinegar takes up soo much space under my kitchen sink, I keep 2 massive containers of distilled vinegar that I pick up from BJ's in addition to my flavored vinegars. If it works out to be just as good as that I'd get back some much needed kitchen space under that sink is what I'm really thinking.
As always, very informative. I have a LOT of catching up to do on your vids! I am so happy you found a property! So excited for you!!! I have missed so much! Girl! Your channels has taken off! I am so happy for you!
Tasha! Good to "see" you lady! I noticed you had a couple videos out recently but I have not had a chance to watch them yet but it did make me happy to see you getting them out. People are craving this information now more than ever.
First off, I just love your videos and have learned so much from them. Then, I want to say to also check garage sales, estate sales, rummage sales, etc. I got a back-up wide-mouth sealer at a rummage sale for .50! The people didn't know what it was for and so I explained it, but they weren't really interested. That's ok. I was happy with my purchase. Thank you so much for all of your sharing!
Right! Last summer we found two All American Canners at a garage sale, one had never been used and the other looked as if it had only been used once. Both still in boxes with their books. We paid $20 for both of them!
@@RainCountryHomestead I love finding great deals at various sales. I belong to a group in Oregon called Buy Nothing where we give from our own abundance. This group has created such great community among us. I just can't thank you enough for what you give to all of us.
Heidi when you were talking about the heavy cream for coffee . I thought about adding it to your Jett Fuel Latte recipe for a creamer taste. Something you could add when making the mix and then all you have to do is add hot water
Thank SO much for this video! Exactly what I wanted to know. I used to love Hoosier Farm powdered products, but many of them have questionable ingredients. I now try & buy Anthony’s Goods off Amazon. Comparable in costs, but usually purer ingredients. Also, muffin liners work great to keep powders from getting into sealer, when sealing jars.
Rain Country I agree. I just bought their sour cream to try because it seemed pretty clean. Thank you again for your video, as it’s easy to buy & store these powders over time, but what & how to use them was alway rattling away in the back of my wee brain.
Lisa Turner I use products from both companies. For Anthony’s Goods, I love the coconut sugar, which is far healthier than white granulated sugar. I just ordered the clear gel, heavy cream, and sour cream, but haven’t tried them yet.
I love this brand of dehydrated dairy products! I haven't tried the cheese powders yet, but they're on my wish list. Thank you for these tips on how to use them!
As Heidi said, the shelf life for things like whole milk powder is only about a year, longer for nonfat products. I repackaged everything for longer storage, as she did. I use them in a lot of my homemade mixes, so they don't spend a lot of time on my shelves anyway.😊
Food saver does have attachments but there is a trick!! ~ I purchased a new food saver and the instruction book said to register the machine online at their website, so I did. Just a make/model and when it was purchased (approx date) and an email was required to register it. After doing this, the company sends you an email thanking you for registering and asks you to go online at their store. With this being said, they DID have the attachments for sale for me to purchase at a good price. They send you emails every few weeks with specials and items you may have not been able to find normally on their website. ~ Amazon has items for $30+ for each piece sold separately. But for just registering my food saver, I only spent $30 for all three, the wide mouth, regular mouth and the cord/hose connection pieces. TRY IT and see if it works for you. ( I don’t always read the booklets but this time I was glad I did!!)
Anyone can access the link on their site to the tops, however, they still go in and out of stock frequently. I check periodically for people who ask and sometimes when I check they are available and other times they are not. While foodsaver has a better price for the set, you still have to pay shipping. The ones I have seen on Amazon are about $15 and $17 each with free shipping or sometimes you can even find the full set for $25 with free shipping. It really just depends on what day you look
I use the milk powder for cooking and coffee creamer, it's cheaper to mix by the quart than buying a half gallon of milk that spoils before we can use it. I started using Hoosier Hill when Judee's became unavailable, way back early spring when you did a This N That and mentioned it.
i love their products, and they last on the shelf, that,s one of the things the taste is the second the ease of use is the last thing i love about this companys products
I have used the powdered cream for quite a while now, just for my coffee....both the creamers, and the cream at the grocery store have additives that may cause cancer.
Sadly here in the UK there's a somewhat limited supply of Hoosier products, I found a cheddar cheese powder, it's an 11oz tub for around $17. For that price they can keep it
I have powdered milk, butter, cheese and eggs, but don't have the buttermilk or heavy cream. I would love to order those, if you try the heavy cream, at a later time, could you please let us know how it does? Thanks for sharing these Heidi, it's always great to learn about products someone has actually tried before spending money on a bad product. Blessings
Yes, I am planning on seeing if it can be whipped but even if not, it does make a great creamer and is good at adding more richness to whatever you need it to
@@RainCountryHomestead yes I have so many recipes that call for heavy cream and it doesn't keep well in the refrigerator, so I wind up pouring it out. I hate waste so this will be great for those recipes and the same with the buttermilk powder. I appreciate you sharing this with us, 👍👍
Blessed to be a Hoosier, myself! West Central Indiana here. A little too far to run to a Fort Wayne but I expect a quick delivery now that I have ordered directly from them.
I just found that product on Amazon...first time seeing RUclipss talk about it..i also saw it on Walmart.com but more exspensive...some of us dont buy from Walmart but use them for pricing...they also have spices directly threw them...
powdered whole milk is excellent I use it in smoothies Also I ordered from Amazon some powdered heavy cream but I haven't tried it yet and of course it's going to be excellent Also I have a 5 gallon tub filled with pasta ,Parmesan cheese and powdered tomato 3 pound size Yes there is such a thing as powdered tomato
You can freeze fresh buttermilk just like your milk. Personally, I had the electricity go out a year ago and lost everything in my freezer so I'm preparing my pantry for "nothing that needs a freezer".
Yes, you can freeze buttermilk like any other dairy product. But yes, powder is a good way to go in case of power outages if you do not have a back up generator or solar power
I jumped on immediately to get some before they sold out and then forgot to come back and watch the rest of the video lol. I'm glad it showed up on my feed to remind me! Question! I know you can make cheese from powdered milk; can you use reconstituted milk as the base for making yogurt?
Yes you can. Having lived most of her life in Alaska, my mother-in-law used powdered milk for her yogurt for years. Fresh milk back then was very hard to find in Rural Alaska.
Could you use those little packets, oxygen absorbers) in the jar? I’ve seen bags of those on Amazon. Just bought Hoosier Farms powdered eggs to keep on hand, also the cream and cheese powder. Love your video, am now subscribed ❤️ Could you consider a video with just recipes using the powders and how to reconstitute them? I want to try Mac and cheese but not sure of the ratios .
@@RainCountryHomestead Thanks for replying :) I was meaning if you couldn't vacuum seal the jar would they help keep things fresh? I haven't been able to find the jar pump anyplace here in Ontario, Canada. Even Amazon is sold out!
We use powdered buttermilk exclusively for recipes calling for buttermilk. What sort of shelf life do these have? Powdered buttermilk is usually stable for a year if unopened. Once opened, it requires refrigeration and is then only good for a couple of months.
I had tried setting up international links but they never worked for some reason. I have to make a separate account for each country too. Wish they would make it easier than that
I would have to assume they are food safe or they would not be selling food in them but have not looked into what chemicals are used in the making of these plastics. Really, all plastics have toxins but keeping them in a cool storage area should be fine but I do repackage what I can. The nice thing about them though is they stack nicely in the plastic containers
You produce great videos and have a wonderful online presence. I enjoy watching everything you do. I do have a question. You’ve indicated, as many have, not to vacuum seal items that have a moisture content or items that have fat in theme. I am assuming these milk products have fat in them. Is that a problem regarding vacuum sealing and long-term shelflife? Thanks
While I have said that about moisture, I have never said that about fat. I vacuum seal nuts in jars and they are high fat and only have had issues so far with the Brazil nuts not lasting a long time so those I freeze. I have had whole milk stored up on the shelf for years with no problems
Rain Country Thank you so very much for getting back to me let alone so quickly. I must be misunderstanding something. My issue not yours. I’ve been trying to become proficient in this area and on various websites I keep reading about only long-term storage for foods with less than 10% moisture and low in fats and oils Because they can go rancid. I obviously need to do more research. Thank you again for getting back to me and have a wonderful day.
@@Buzzy-bm6bv I am pretty sure I understood you. Yes, there is a much debate on fats going rancid but it often depends on the fats. Even though olive oil has a low smoke point and can go rancid in storage if allowed to sit for too long in a hot room, properly stored it can last for years it the container it came in. It is really all about proper storage. As I said, I have stored powdered whole milk for years with no problem
Rain Country I better understand, and for that I am very grateful. I have chosen not to vacuum seal items like Italian bread crumbs and granola because of the fat content, but I see that shouldn’t be an issue, if stored properly. Again, thank you. There is such a plethora of information out there about so many things, and it take time, patience and intelligence to adequately cull through it all and arrive at a plan that sounds logical and will hopefully work. You, obviously, have a proficiency with the subject, and I envy you for that. I’ll get there eventually. For now, you have added tremendously to my knowledge data base and will make decisions accordingly. Thank you, very much, again.
Update on the wide-mouth & regular mouth foodsaver-jar vacuum-sealers, I found some on ebay mostly the wide-mouth-jar-sealers very few regular-mouth & only a couple of bundles... nonetheless I cannot get any within the UK as I explained in my earlier comment... Thus I had to order from the US, not-a-problem however I had to pay Shipping import-tax & to top it all off a currency-conversion-fee via ebay... Here are the breakdown of costs, taking into consideration that they seem to last Heidi for years & look to serve many-a-year to come... I just bagged a bundle of a wide & regular mouth jar-sealers total in USD of $118.14 which included the bundle $61.99 shipping at $29.46 & import-tax $23.04 plus ebays conversion-rate of $4.83... Currency-conversion to GBP... The bundle £46.87 shipping £22.27 import-tax £17.42 & ebays conversion-rate of £3.65 total £90.21 I hope this helps other viewers of @Rain Country
The very first question I was going to ask you is if you were going to put them in vacuum sealed jars LOL. How long of a shelflife do you think the powders would have in the vacuum sealed jars? I have the Hoosier Farm cream cheese that I haven’t tried yet. Also I have their clear gel. I wouldn’t say I’m a big huge clear gel fan I’m not. But I needed it for something and it does state that it is non-GMO. To my knowledge I don’t know of any other clear gel that makes that statement? One thing that I have been working on is beef tallow. I think we’re going to buy a cow? I’ll get the tallow from it. But if not I did find a source yesterday where I could get it for two dollars a pound. In my area everything is pricey. Nobody does any canning and preserving. I just can’t catch a break down here in the bottom of South Carolina. I know I am definitely going to start using that Azure standard. Do you use that company? For me it’s going to be a good thing because of once again where I live sucks. But the good Lord wants me here so what can you do.
I cannot give any exact number on shelf life as some of these are new to me but having stored powdered milk for many years, I have found if properly stored, it can last for many years. The only milk I have ever had go "bad" (which was not really bad, it only solidified) was some cheap non fat junk I had left stored for years in their own packages.
Holy cow went to purchase delivery to Canada the shipping is almost the price of the can and this was very similar with other companies well I think I’m going to go to the store and buy a bunch we’re still pretty lucky here the shelves are still pretty stocked but for how long right right so best I head out this week and start grabbing any thing I can afford that I can Mylar bag up myself and save a lot and that way can buy extra
I use the powdered whole milk in my bread recipes. Richer flavor than the typical non-fat dry milk most yeast bread recipes call for. I also have the buttermilk and cream. I haven't tried those two yet but they are in my stash for long term. You just never know! There are quite few recipes using just the Hoosier powders to make soup and other stuff on RUclips. Good video.
I do to, it is awesome and even taste better. I use a little in my mashed potatoes even deserts. I also have the dry butter cream and buttermilk two. Also have around 400 dry eggs in long term storage. I also use for baking sometimes also.

Yup yup. I get a bunch of the Hoosier Hill dairy products in my subscribe and save. I rotate them out each month to build my preps !!!
I order some after I watch your video on this. Got it a week ago.
Cream, milk, butter, butter milk, heavy cream, sour cream, cheese powder
Thank you for your tip on sealing powder products. I need this information. Great video as always.
Brand new to your channel. I've been wondering about these products for long-term food storage, so thank you!
I haven’t used that brand, however, I use buttermilk powder to make my own ranch mix and use it on popcorn, chicken, potatoes! So much yummy
Not all of them do but that is why I only got the WHITE cheddar, it does not have the junk in it that the other cheddar powder does
Rain Country I agree. I just bought their sour cream to try because it seemed pretty clean. Thank you again for your video, as it’s easy to buy & store these powders over time, but what & how to use them was alway rattling away in the back of my wee brain.
Rain Country also I found that Anthony’s Goods regular cheddar cheese is clean. I’ve not tasted it, but hope to soon.
Lisa Turner I use products from both companies. For Anthony’s Goods, I love the coconut sugar, which is far healthier than white granulated sugar. I just ordered the clear gel, heavy cream, and sour cream, but haven’t tried them yet.
@@RainCountryHomestead To make it yellow looking, could you add turmeric for color? This would help for people who are use to yellow cheddar.
I use the milk and buttermilk powder from azure.....it’s good stuff! I use the powdered in recipes so we save our regular milk for drinking!
The dry buttermilk can be used as a culture to make cheese also
Hi Heidi. Sorry I'm late.good to know on all the powdered dairy. Thanks.
I also use these. Great product. Worcestershire sauce is great to have.
I love this brand of dehydrated dairy products! I haven't tried the cheese powders yet, but they're on my wish list. Thank you for these tips on how to use them!
What is the shelf life?
As Heidi said, the shelf life for things like whole milk powder is only about a year, longer for nonfat products. I repackaged everything for longer storage, as she did. I use them in a lot of my homemade mixes, so they don't spend a lot of time on my shelves anyway.😊
I just got the Hoosier Heavy Cream in today. It was great in my coffee.
I have bought HH milk for several years and love it.
I wondered about this brand and shelf life thanks for the video
Thabk you for a TOTALLY AWESOME Video!!! Looking forward to the powdered vacuum sealing video!!! God bless and have a great day!!!
I have so far been quite impressed with all the ones I have tried thus far :D
God is good...all the time =)
I just ordered the heavy cream power, thx! The butter was out.
I will have to bite the bullet and get some. Especially buttermilk powder, yum!
I buy the Hoosier buttermilk to make my own Ranch dressing! It’s the best!
Thank You I had been looking at these but your review prompted me to order some.
I was just wondering about these products. Thank you for sharing!
These could be a game changer! Thanks!
I use the cheddar powder for Mac and cheese and in my veggie/cassarole white sauces.
MIlkman Dry milk is AWESOME. You can contact the company directly and order a full case or bulk at a better price too. Just a heads up. :)
I have used the powdered cream for quite a while now, just for my coffee....both the creamers, and the cream at the grocery store have additives that may cause cancer.
I didn't know these items existed! Thanks for the info
What??? 👀 "Powdered Heavy Whipping Cream"?!?!? 😱
Where have you been all my life??? 🤦😜😏👍
I just got this!
I got the milk and butter in that brand. Good for emergencies.
I use these product too and love them! The cheddar cheese powder is amazing on popcorn.
Sadly here in the UK there's a somewhat limited supply of Hoosier products, I found a cheddar cheese powder, it's an 11oz tub for around $17. For that price they can keep it
I love Hoosier Hill Farms powdered dairy products, and I can get it in Canada too.
I appreciate you sharing this with us, 👍👍
I love this company from right here in Indiana! ❤️ It was my not-so-secret secret! I guess it's outta the bag now! 🤣
Nice! That makes it even better for you!
Blessed to be a Hoosier, myself! West Central Indiana here. A little too far to run to a Fort Wayne but I expect a quick delivery now that I have ordered directly from them.
I also live in Indiana, Central In.
@@audreyabbott7806 Do they have a brick and mortar store front?
Renee` F I don’t know if they do but some factories will sell retail. For instance, Red Gold tomatoes has a factory outlet store in Elwood, IN.
I just found that product on Amazon...first time seeing RUclipss talk about it..i also saw it on Walmart.com but more exspensive...some of us dont buy from Walmart but use them for pricing...they also have spices directly threw them...
Great video. You always have given wonderful advice.
Great ideas! Thanks!
Awesome video...I have a few of these products, but want more in my pantry ;)
Had not thought about storing milk products because we don't use them much but good advise. ❤🙏
powdered whole milk is excellent I use it in smoothies
Also I ordered from Amazon some powdered heavy cream but I haven't tried it yet and of course it's going to be excellent
Also I have a 5 gallon tub filled with pasta ,Parmesan cheese and powdered tomato 3 pound size
Yes there is such a thing as powdered tomato
Yep, I have tomato powder but when I make my own, I do not powder it, I just flake it. It preserves better that way
Thank you Heidi, I am going to try Hoosier products! the butter is out. How about Patrick's Creamsicle with the heavy cream powder
O yes! Good plan on the creamsicles!
I am sure you can but have never tried it myself
Yes you can. Having lived most of her life in Alaska, my mother-in-law used powdered milk for her yogurt for years. Fresh milk back then was very hard to find in Rural Alaska.
@@alaskanrebecca3736 thank you!! I'm going to try it!
Got these and they are great.
It took 2 months for me to get the food saver vacuum lids. They are on back order.
I spent over $100 for a wide mouth and regular mouth lid attachments, plus shipping and handling!!
Wow!
I just ordered some of these!
When I am vacuum sealing, I do not bother with oxygen absorbers but some choose to do so. If using mylar bags for storage, yes, I would recommend it
@@RainCountryHomestead Thanks for replying :) I was meaning if you couldn't vacuum seal the jar would they help keep things fresh? I haven't been able to find the jar pump anyplace here in Ontario, Canada. Even Amazon is sold out!
I purchased directly from Hoosier Farm website earlier this year. I wish the dates would have been longer.
Repackaging in jars (vacuum sealed) or mylar bags with O2 absorbers will extend the shelf life out for years
@@RainCountryHomestead thanks
We use powdered buttermilk exclusively for recipes calling for buttermilk. What sort of shelf life do these have? Powdered buttermilk is usually stable for a year if unopened. Once opened, it requires refrigeration and is then only good for a couple of months.
I would think it would all be the same unless you repackage like I shown here
I am in Canada. I would use your link everything if you had an Amazon link for Canada!
I had tried setting up international links but they never worked for some reason. I have to make a separate account for each country too. Wish they would make it easier than that
I just ordered some thru your link...thank you. Are these empty plastic containers good to store anything in? BPA? Ideas?
You can go to any auto parts store and get a hand brake bleeder. ie; auto zone, o riellys, etc etc. I'm a lady mechanic by trade. Love to all.
Would love to have the link for the bread you mentioned early in the video. Thanks!

We like this brand very much too!
The bundle £46.87 shipping £22.27 import-tax £17.42 & ebays conversion-rate of £3.65 total £90.21
I hope this helps other viewers of @Rain Country
I realized that there is butter flavor so I’m going to try adding that to the butter powder. I’ll let you know.
Rain Country TY
I wanna get the powdered cheese to make cheese crackers for the kids..
That's a great idea! Never thought of this.
We love the cheese powder, especially on popcorn and I add it to the crackers I make. Of course it makes great mac n cheese
I've been using these to make mac & cheese.
Thanks for sharing!
Love the info. Thank you so much but what’s with the kitchen chicken floating down on the right side of the video right after you spoke about not liking olive oil in your homemade mayo? Been watching your vids for awhile. Am I missing something?
