Subaru becoming twisted is done really well here. Its to be expected when you consider who he was before this, just someone in a tracksuit. So its not strange for him to break in various ways after all he's been through and come up with insane idea's due to his unhealthy obsession that kept him going through multiple deaths. However it just makes it so much worse because no one else has that context. He skips straight from regular dude to this in a month where he did win everything. This episode shows the dark path he is heading down perfectly. A twisted road where his pure feelings become monstrous. Where Emilia stops mattering as a person.
absolutely! when Emilia says something like "this version of me in your mind is amazing. She understands everything, even when you don't explain it" and it's spot on. No one knows wtf Subaru is on about, he's just wildly yelling at strangers.
Subaru was already flawed in many ways but it was not so obvious until now, When de mabeast dog incident happened he asked Emilia to stay rather than going with him because he sees her as the heroine to be rescued and himself as her hero, when he's not the center of attention he loses his mind.
So many people quit watching the show after this ep. And I almost did, but I'm glad I kept going. But yeah. This is where Subaru showed his true stripes, the stuff he kept hidden behind being the "class clown." He is both entitled and self-loathing, and figured if he earned enough Hero Points the Emilia vending machine would dispense undying love and affection. Dude needed to be smacked down to rock-bottom reality REALLY badly, and he deserved every bit of that. Now he's got to claw his way back up, and hopefully learn the right lessons.
I don't understand some reactors on this. Subaru can't stay at home because he won't know what happens to Emilia in case something happens. If it did happen, his return by death might not even make it in time(to him). It's not really a choice.
who's to say there won't be an ambush at the mansion while Emilia is gone? How do we know that Subaru would have survived it? There's no reason to believe he wouldn't seek out death if she died, immediately resetting him to the same point. He certainly had a choice, and he made it. He decided he knew better, even as he had no frame of reference for the itinerary or its rules.

How would he survive the hypothetical ambush at the mansion?? He's currently blissfully ignorant. Just like how normal people don't expect an attack on their daily lives. The show makes it a point that he's absolutely terrified of dying. The only time he was able to suicide was for that one cliff scene. Otherwise, if we think of efficiency, he could've started restarting anytime anything didn't go his way. Oh but yes definitely he decided he knew better but there was a bit more at play here than ego is what I'm trying to say.
This is definitely one of those painful watches. I have learnt to skip ahead myself when I can't handle something like this in a story. I find coming back later helps a lot.
