Kenya is the best country, I ever been to. And I have been to a lot of countries. The Kenya people are special to me. They're very honest, nice, and supportive. Sometimes, it scares me coming from America. I definitely be moving to Kenya, hands down
Another amazing video! Thank you for bringing one of the best safari videos of the Mara! Amazing sighting of the leopard eating its kill! We stayed at the Enkorok Mara Camp for 3 nights in October 2021 on our safari, so, that brought back so many nice memories as well! Keep up the great editing and the excellent narration! Thank you!
I am going on a Safari in Kenya and Tanzania in a couple of weeks, I wasn't planning to bring a DSLR, but when I see your videos (by the way, excellent !!) and saw what gear you had use on Safari, since I also have a GH5 and a Leica Panasonic 12-60mm. I would like to know which lens did you use most? I hate to carry heavy gear, was initially planning to just use an iPhone 15 Pro Max and a monopod, but after seeing your videos, I might regret not bringing the GH5. What would you have recommended? bring the GH5 or iPhone 15 Pro Max suffice, FYI.. I am 62yrs old.
Wow, that's so exciting! I hope you have an amazing trip. I absolutely love the 100-400mm lens. I use it for the entire safari and my partner uses the 12-60mm to capture wide-angle landscape shots. The 12-60mm is similar in focal length range to the iPhone 15 Pro Max so I don't think it will be strictly necessary to bring your DSLR if the 12-60mm is the only lens you have. The 100-400mm however - I wouldn't want to go on safari without it!
What? An amazing safari. That would be amazing to see in person. All of those vultures kept trying to take the hyena's kill. But to see the lion in person would be a dream come true.
Ella your videos are stunning and so beautifully edited. I’m off to the Masai Mara for the second time next week. It’s a very magical place as your videos depict. Thank you for sharing them.
Thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed watching and that the video has made you feel excited for your trip. I've actually just got back from my second trip there and arguably had an even better trip this time than last time! The Masai Mara never disappoints. You'll have a fabulous time!

Nice video Ella! I’m excited on our June 7 days African Safari experience in Kenya. Can I ask if drone is legal to be flown? Or do you need to pay or get license or something? I saw you have some drone footages. I’m planning to bring my drone too.😊
I hope you have an amazing trip! Taking a drone to Kenya is actually very challenging. They have strict rules on 'importing' so I'd recommend not bringing one at all. You can rent one instead eg AA Lodge in Amboseli allows you to rent drones and they come with necessary permits to fly in Amboseli NP. To fly in the Masai Mara you would need permits to fly there. Otherwise you'll have to fly outside of national parks which is actually where these shots were taken.
It really was a magical moment! Yes, leopards have distinct territories (although they do overlap at points) - that makes identifying them easier as the guides know which individuals hold each territory.
Pretty much any time of year apart from late March to early May (long rainy season) is good with an abundance of wildlife around. I'd personally avoid the peak season of July and August as it can get quite busy and is more expensive at this time of year
Thank you very much!! A private safari in Kenya starts at around $300 per person per day (assuming you are 2 people as it's higher for solo travellers). The Masai Mara park fee makes up a big chunk of that cost
Private safaris in budget accommodation start at just over $300 per person per day. It may be slightly more now as the park fees have gone up in price recently
iPhones are fantastic at taking photos and videos! The only problem on safari is that some of the wildlife sightings can be quite far away (like the cheetah family in this video) and only a long zoom lens will be able to do those sightings justice. However, the animals are used to vehicles so it's normal to see quite a few close to the roads. An iPhone would have been more than sufficient to capture photos of this leopard sighting for example. So, long story short, for the close wildlife sightings it will do a great job but may struggle with capturing animals that are far away.
Great video! As a piggyback on the earlier question, I have an old Canon digital camera which can go to an 84x digital zoom. I presume that will get me by? Certainly I don't expect a National Geographic level picture, but will it be good enough for amateur grade photos?

A private Kenya safari typically starts at $300 per person per day but the price is really variable depending on the level of accommodation you choose and which parks you go to. The Masai Mara park fees alone cost $100-$200 per person per day depending on which time of year you visit.

The mad rush by vehicles and the subsequent Cheetah chase which appeared to be spoilt by the motors puts me right off, I think I will go to Botswana instead, much more animal friendly and controlled for the animals
There were definitely times where I felt stressed by the sheer number of vehicles piling on a sighting in the Masai Mara. In that respect the Serengeti is much better as it has stricter rules around going off-road and the roads are few and far between which means animals can't get crowded. I've heard a lot of positive things about Botswana too - it's very high on my list.
