If I'm not mistaken, there was a writer's strike going on when this episode was made, and this compilation was the result of them making due and doing the best that they could.

If they remake this episode today, Pulaski would've placed Riker under quarantine in sickbay just to be sure he doesn't carry a bug that would've caused a ship-wide pandemic.
I understand why people deemed this episode as the absolute worst, since it has the lowest rating on IMDB. But the producers only filmed this episode for three days due to the Writer's Strike. They had no choice but to make it a clip show. Granted, they could have executed it better, but this was all they could muster. Which is why I'm willing to give this episode the benefit of the doubt. I still love O'Brien's line to Pulaski when he says, "I hope these are the right coordinates".
As flawed an episode as the contractually obligated clip show Shades of Gray was... There's an opportunity there no one ever took advantage of. I'm surprised we've never seen a fan edit of this episode replacing all these clips with flashbacks from Riker's youth. It's like walking away and leaving your creative money sitting on the table.
There are quite a few TNG duds, especially S1, but is this one at the top of the list? I mean this was just lazy writing, but maybe there was a reason for why?

This is what you get for wandering around an unexplored alien jungle in pyjamas. I've worn more PPE in my shed.
Back in the day, episodes like this that were just a compilation of scenes from other episodes were found in almost every TV series.
Even the pre-credits sequence can't drum up any excitement for the episode 😅
HAPPY FIRST CONTACT DAY - April 5, 2024
Let's just bring this completely unknown and uncontained alien micro-organism into the ship. Clever.
And hope it doesn't bring a bug that would've killed off the crew or (at least) transformed them into strange creatures 😉

The first time I saw this episode, I just fast forwarded all the "memories." 😂😂
So, it would be ten minutes.
Always the good doctors who do not like the transporters. ☺️I can’t blame them.😬
That planet looks just like Worf's holodeck monster scenarios.

Definitely one of the episodes of all time
And years later he'd be shouting red alert in the snapper...😂
If they remake this episode today, Pulaski would've placed Riker under quarantine in sickbay just to be sure he doesn't carry a bug that would've caused a ship-wide pandemic.
And that was the day that Pulaski decided to cast an ancient Gypsy curse on O'Brien, that he may never know peace, in any universe, in any timeline.
Happy First contact to all trekes😊👍😎
39 years to go before we'd party with the Vulcans in rural Montana 😊
Pretty early in the series to do a flashback episode.
End of Season 2, I think. They were running out of money at this point lol
SG-1 did one in season one!
It was because of the writers strike
@@jamesspring4610 Nothing to do with money, it was because of the writers strike

Happy Friday, Paul! Did you get to watch the season premiere of Star Trek Discovery? It was awesome!
Thank you. You too, Jonathan. No I have not. That is good that you like it.
@@April-dv2pb BTW, Star Trek DS9 channel is now on the Pluto TV.
@@jonathanmyers2867 thank you for the information. I watched Stargate on Pluto TV a few weeks ago.
The one time a season ends on a lazy clip show.

You don't really believe that, do you? Where was the destruction of the Eugenics Wars in our 1991???

Thank you very much, Chambo.Movies, for uploading this interesting clip so that I can see it again very soon. ™

I’ll admit I was not a fan of the “Pulaski Season”, at some point I’m going to have to give it a rewatch.

The writers' strike?
I hate Pulaski. Gene, TNG did NOT NEED ANOTHER MCCOY!!!
I think Maurice Hurley was more responsible for that than Gene was. Since Maurice was the show runner for Season 2.
Pulaski wasn't McCoy.
@@MuzzyBarker She was written as a female McCoy-wannabe.
@@MuzzyBarker Nope she wasn't.
Ahhhh, another guy that’s scared of strong women 🙄
I believe this is the only clip show in the history of ST
