Betty's Trip to Parkette Drive-In with Rick, Chelsea, & Carter--NO RECIPE--

Betty has lunch at the Parkette Drive-In Restaurant with Rick, Chelsea, and Carter. The Parkette Drive-In is in Lexington, Kentucky, and has remained true to it's originators vision since it opened on November 11, 1951. The drive-in restaurant was opened by Joe Smiley, who prepared their famous fried chicken from an old family recipe. The chicken was fried in lard, and the original recipe is still in use. We ordered the Fried Chicken Box, which came with tater tots, gravy, and a roll; the Poor Boy Sandwich, which is a double-decker hamburger with special sauce and dressing, served with onion rings; the Chili Dog, which was a hot dog in a bun, covered with chili sauce, chopped onions, and shredded Cheddar cheese; and a healthy Grilled Chicken Salad. Our drinks were iced tea, a Diet Pepsi, pink lemonade, and a Diet Pepsi float. The food was delicious, and the curbside service was fun! This restaurant also has accommodations for eating inside at a booth, with 50s and 60s music playing. Visiting the Parkette Drive-In Restaurant was like taking a step back in time!
One note: Due to many emails to Guy Fieri's Food Network show, "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives," Guy himself visited the Parkette Drive-In Restaurant about three weeks ago to shoot a segment for his show. Guy helped fry the chicken in lard, and to prepare the chili sauce for the hot dogs. He stayed at the restaurant for about 5 hours while the restaurant shut down, except for a few allowed customers. The segment featuring the Parkette Drive-In will air on "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" on the Food Network in 4 to 8 months.
