  • MSF opened Al-Wahda hospital in Mosul in April 2018 following the end of the armed battles to retake Mosul from the Islamic State Group’s control. Many people from the city were caught in the intense fighting and sustained life-altering injuries that required specialised orthopaedic care and extensive post-operative care. But the battles also left severe damages on Mosul’s healthcare sector, rendering many of its facilities partially or fully destroyed.
For six years, MSF teams worked hard to bridge the gap in orthopaedic surgeries and comprehensive post-operative care service to facilitate the recovery of those wounded during the war in Mosul and from elsewhere in Ninawa governorate. In March 2024, MSF handed over Al-Wahda hospital to the Directorate of Health in Ninawa.
