Omar's "inner" notes (the little 16th or 32nd accents and ghost notes) are totally f**king incredible, like no one else. It is like he is always playing some kind of 4 minute long syncopated drum roll that sounds so. damn. good!
That famous Bring On The Night solo with the band moving with him is peak spirituality. Sting is badass for getting Omar to work that out. There's a few live clips of Omar going bananas on that one. AMEN!!!
First time I had ever heard of and saw Omar Hakim was around the late 80's when he smashed it up with Sting performing, 'Burn For you' been a fan ever since. At one point the late Kenny Kirkland can be seen chuckling at how Omar Hakim was absolutely blistering the skins. Every time I watch the video I get chills. Big up OH!
I've seen him play his first public gig in NY with Weather Report at the Palladium in June 1982. He was 23 years old. He was so ecstatic they let him play the longest solo ever. The place was on fire. Victor Bailey was on bass.
Omar is still playing at the highest level...wow. Actually he had a few years between (the public world) fame of Steve Gadd and the rise of Dave Weckl where he was the drummer everybody talked about. He played with Weather report, Sanborn, Sting, David Bowie, Brian Ferry......
Omar I love your drumming you could drum for me anytime I never heard anyone drum like you I listen to you anytime with Mr Rogers and chic I love that old music that's the best Disco love you guys
Weird thing to mention, but I always noticed that he has the best posture of any drummer I've seen, and I've always thought it's part of his sound. He plays with incredible authority!
Not a weird thing to mention at all, my friend! A drummer can have great hands and amazing stick control, but without good posture his pedal work will have a hard time keeping up. Omar's 'authority' starts with perfect balance from his upright posture (listen to that bass drum!) and ends - after an awful lot of hard work - with a telephone that never stops ringing. :-)
As someone else has already commented, that doesn't seem weird at all. I love watching how drummers move - and how they move does somehow seem connected with their sound.
Still one of my Major Heroes,Love you Omar, You have been a Huge inspiration to me since i was a kid..........love you so much, be well keep rocking.................
I saw them in 1998, at the old Trammps, in NYC! Omar was double-timing off the hi hat! His lock in the groove that night stole the show! And on bass is the great Barry Johnson. Jamaica Boy like Marcus. Check them Lenny White, twennynine joints like Fancy Dancer! And the Luther man, Fonzi Thornton singing background.
I was on a Sting concert many years ago in Stockholm. Hakim had a solo and dropped two sticks during that solo. Remember seing them flying........ But he picked up new ones and the solo wasn't interrupted at all. Magic.
Nile Rogers is sooooo fkn cool. I remember the night Steve wouldn't let him in studio 54, it was fkn unbelievable, especially since he had the #number 1 hit on the charts at the time and they were playing it over and over in Steve's club.
Wow. Unreal. If all that does not get you going you have no pulse . Like watching a steam locomotive warming up, blowing its whistle and going . What a trio no singing necessary omg . If I was driving I would be going 100 mph !!

Marshall Jones Wow! He’s awesome!
Omar is one of the greatest of all times drummers. His playing on Sting's 'Bring On The Night' and John Scofield's 'Still Warm' is absolutely amazing.
Amen!! Bring On The Night changed my life!!
Love good musicians

Omar is still playing at the highest level...wow. Actually he had a few years between (the public world) fame of Steve Gadd and the rise of Dave Weckl where he was the drummer everybody talked about. He played with Weather report, Sanborn, Sting, David Bowie, Brian Ferry......
This man flows in a way that make you see playing drums is easy...
His style is just so ... fluid. It's like flowing water
The best drummer that I have ever had the honor to sing in front of. Pure pocket.
Mr. Hakim manifests not only great technical chops but that magical thing called 'feel'. Great drummer!
He plays with joy ! This is the difference.
Sometimes even with the famous Billy Cobham smile ;-)
The perfect, loose hand technique doesn't hurt, either.
Omar Hakim is simply a BEAST on the kit
Freaking amazing

Omar Hakim is a drummer possessed! He didn't break a sweat, WTF! PURE Genius!
JUST Omar's work on Brothers in Arms....dear gawd.

I don't know about that, lol.Check out Max Roach in his later years!!!🤣🤣🤣
the most underrated drummer in history, he's the king of groove
federico calabria Omar is god... and to think that he's still playing at the highest level is fascinating
Absolutely!!!
Underrated by who; Bowie, Sting, Weather Report, Miles Davis, Dire Straights, Madonna or Anita Baker? :-)
By the people!! If you ask someone who is Omar Hakim they stare at you like "who's that guy?"
Hardly under rated! That cat has some serious beats
Remember chic at 8 years old,my aunt would dance and win trophies at competitions, she'd play all the disco greats
Nice playing.
Smokin! Great drummer! So much soul and groove.

Omar - huge influence on my drumming! - Great feel!

Word!
Omar is one of the most fluid drummers on earth! He makes it look sooooo easy!!!!!! PHENOMENAL!!!! Barry Johnson is a FANTASTIC bassist!!!
Agree! To me Barry Johnson was a good decent replacement for Bernard. Pitty he didn't go on with the band.
Now that is smokin! Omar is a beast!
Omar! The Funk Was There that night you are the best bro! Rick Brennan from Change North Philly Love Peace
Omar Hakim always teaching. He does the solo creating new rhythmic lines. Jesus Christ!
I saw them in 1998, at the old Trammps, in NYC! Omar was double-timing off the hi hat! His lock in the groove that night stole the show!

Your welcome bro 😉
I LOVE YOUR BAND SO MUCH!!
I was on a Sting concert many years ago in Stockholm. Hakim had a solo and dropped two sticks during that solo. Remember seing them flying........ But he picked up new ones and the solo wasn't interrupted at all. Magic.
I’ve been there. It was amazing.
Something for the drummers, but far more importantly, a theme running through the solo for concert-goers and Chic fans who DON'T play the drums!
Rest in peace Bernard Edwards....
One of my favorite drummers. His work with Dire Straits, for but one example, is brilliance.
One of the very best of the 80's drummers.Spent to much time as a session drummer and not get the recognition he deserves.
Fantastic drum solo!
Nile Rogers is sooooo fkn cool. I remember the night Steve wouldn't let him in studio 54, it was fkn unbelievable, especially since he had the #number 1 hit on the charts at the time and they were playing it over and over in Steve's club.
Good drum and bass
Loved this guy from a weather report!
Danceable Drumming and Bass !

Beautiful xxx
This guy has the sickest skills...my goodness..
Sicker than COVID-19
It is Literally Hard to even try to explain the talent of drummer Omar Hakim. Its a task trying to explain it...

Wow. Unreal. If all that does not get you going you have no pulse .
Like watching a steam locomotive warming up, blowing its whistle and going . What a trio no singing necessary omg . If I was driving I would be going 100 mph !!
FANTASTIC
Whoa, Omar has a similar setup to me. Probably why he's so good. Ha.
I like that... :-)
He plays with a ton of musicality
How did Sting ever find 2 incredible drummers for his band, Omar Hakim & Manu Katche? I'm more of a Hakim fan, but love them both.
And Vincent colieuta
awesome
he got that hi-hat up hi
Incredible.
