I just got an og xbox and this game. When I saw this intro I was super hyped but then the actual story mode was a fairly typical fighting one but with little things that made me wish I had more context haha

This version was not a ps2 or DC. Dead or Alive 2 Ultimate was an xbox title. DOA 2 was on DC and DOA 2 "Hardcore" was a ps2. You use this trailer that is an Xbox version and not even put the correct title is incorrect.

Let's see what they did here and why is so iconic, first, top graphics, second the art direction which was amazing with great cuts and not over the top symbology, third we see the focus just in three characters and knew the anthagonist where most games showed all or most of the cast doing flips, fourth the story is rock solid, mature elements, this triangle where Ayane is half a princess and loses the posibility of inherit the status, living and techniques from the clan, this also applies to Hayate who loses everything when losing the battle, for what concerns to us he is dead or crippled and Kasumi who loses her status, her living and her techniques are already in possesion of her enemy, so she is losing everything for revenge and mostly to fix the wrongs she goes on the hunt for Raidou who has everything so far. Raidou raped Kas mother and that brought us Ayane, Ayane may kill her sister, may be in love with her half brother and viceversa, and save her father without wanting, Hayate may love his half sister, he may be unable to walk, failed to defend his technique which now has been stolen, lost his sister who now has a prize for her head for doing the "right thing", lost the confidence the clan had on him and also Raidou is getting stronger and running free, what are Ayane's feelings?, most important would she know the truth on time? What if she kills Kasumi and that blocks her chances with Hayate? What if she still can find the love with him? Are her feelings totally different now that she knows Hayate is her brother? Did they change in the proper way? What if she accomplishes her mission and inherits the Mugen Tenshin force but then finds out that she does not want to kill Raidou, what about Kasumi, could she avenge her brother? Or maybe could she kill her sister? Kasumi does not know, would she be strong enough to defeat the man her older and stronger brother could not defeat? What would she do once she knows her clan wants her dead? Would she accomplish her mission and then go back? Even if she goes back would she hurt Hayate by making her brother see or demand her execution? What if she kills Ayane and then finds out she killed her sister? If she defeats Raidou, would she take the whole clan down? She should be strong enough by then, specially since we do not know Hayate's status and Ayane is down, but also there are more shinobis that won't simply close their eyes, if that's the case would Kas just wipe out the clan like Raidou but worst? etc All of these different possibilities and more are on the table this is why to this day this is the best intro in videogames for me, we knew that characters have complex stories, they also have a lot of feelings, that could be shaped by.
Story wise it was incredibly mature and exploring lots of aspects of human sociology. All overshadowed by bouncing breasts. Everyone absolutely every characters feelings was valid and that’s what made it a good story, because when they crossed path in their respective story mode, they were all justified
They really need to give Kasumi's story a proper ending and not keep wasting time with Marie Rose and Honoka, No older fans even like those two, I at least am alright with them, but I want them in the background where they belong. Look at the lore here! The detail, even in just an opening lol. Look at Kasumi at 2:13 that hint of sorrow as Ayane is moved away. She always wanted to be friends; she always loved her family. She defended Ayane from Raidou in doa 1 Dimensions storyline and never treated her cruelly, all she did was stand up for herself. Everything started here because Raidou hurt Hayate and Kasumi went to put him down. I love her determination and love for her family, how she is so kind and sweet but also savage when deserved. Her story needs an ending, Ayane has finally started to bury their hatchet and things are looking up. I just hope they don't fucking reboot the series or some bs. I'm ok with it turning into a beach party series after Kasumi's story is finished. I don't want a reboot because I love the slow art style shift from Doa 4 to 5 and 6 and how it shows the characters aging, and I don't think a remake is the right thing for this series. We'll see, I just want Doa which is my favorite video game series, to be in a proper place.
Instead of DOA 7 I'd love to see DOA origins. A game that revisits the story from the beginning, slowly unlocking all previous charcters, environments and costumes from previous games to today. I know DOA is too much of a money grab to ever see this happen, but thats my wish.

By canon lore, Xtreme Venus is after Doa6, so expect Sayuri, Reika, Monica and those come into DOA7 to rival the "Honkers" Honoka yeah! Baby Honkers(Honoka) fight Nursey, Milfy Honkers(Sayuri) in Dead or Alive tournament! Wow I wanna see that!!
There's not much to see about it. But if you want more context, play DoA Dimensions for the 3DS. I think an action game like Ninja Gaiden with the Mugen Tenshin would be dope. I'd love to see the origin of Hayate/Ryu rivalry.

Unfortunately the story fell apart after DOA4.. For me, the original first four games (+DOA2U) have the only canon storyline
