    • @clairegibson9365
      @clairegibson9365 Месяц назад +4

      Rebuilding isn’t that dangerous. They have so many engineers, physics, machines that do so much work prior to make it a safe area. They’re currently redoing ours in a port city I live in. I wish I could post a photo bc they built an entire layer to work on (that is technically “under” the bridge), before even starting the rebuild. So cool looking. That way they have something very sturdy to stand on. Then they dismantle it once done. But the recovery part is absolutely terrifying with all the debris down there. No way. Our coast guard deserves so much praise.

Even if it was caused by negligence they can’t just go on tv and say that without doing a proper investigation.

      The same vessel that hit the Baltimore Key Bridge on Tuesday, destroying it and sending people and vehicles tumbling into the water, was also involved in a collision while leaving the port of Antwerp, Belgium, in 2016.
      According to Vessel Finder and the maritime incident archive Shipwrecklog, the Dali - a 948ft (290-meter) cargo ship with a capacity of 10,000 containers - was leaving the container terminal of Antwerp heading to Bremerhavenm
      As it did so, its bow reportedly swung around, causing the stern to scrape the side of the quay, significantly damaging several meters of the hull.
      The ship was reportedly detained by authorities afterward and docked in Deurganckdok, Belgium. There were reportedly no injuries or adverse pollution.

    This is a horrible event. If you watch the video along with the marine traffic for the area, it looks like the Dali was in her lane going at around 8 knots, then she loses power (at least all the lights go out), and starts to drift out of her lane. Power comes back on, she slows down to around 7 knots and continues drifting out of her lane towards the pylons. It looks like the power flickers off again and partly comes back on just before she hits the pylon. That's a lot of kinetic energy behind a very heavy vessel to strike pylons.

      The same vessel that hit the Baltimore Key Bridge on Tuesday, destroying it and sending people and vehicles tumbling into the water, was also involved in a collision while leaving the port of Antwerp, Belgium, in 2016.
      According to Vessel Finder and the maritime incident archive Shipwrecklog, the Dali - a 948ft (290-meter) cargo ship with a capacity of 10,000 containers - was leaving the container terminal of Antwerp heading to Bremerham

    I have been on the water, when a ship looses power. They have no steering. The one, I observed, was on the Columbia River, north of Portland, Oregon. We watched it as it went from one side of the river, to the next, and took out a concrete loading dock, at Warehouser lumber shipment dock. The whole front bow piece was crushed in. The fishing died out in seconds of the impact.

    Bet the folk in on the boat are dei hires
    That being said, you can't blame mechanics' failure. You can see the ship lost power a few times. So unless the ship owners/crew had been cutting corners on maintenance this is just a tragic accident. Especially since to steer/control the boat requires power. Even dropping all anchors wouldnt have stopped the momentum and drift
