You only use one. They are different size in thickness. but very hard to tell between them. Some say there's a different color O-ring on the pickup tube for some models? Black, Red and Green, the year will dictate what color.
I took all 4 bolts out of the crossmember but it's still stuck do I have to loosen the other bolt on the part that the crossmember mounts to? I forgot what it's called the triangle part that connects to the wheel
😅if you have a 1500 model, there’s only 4 nuts and bolts to take off the crossmember, 2 on each side. You may need to hit the cross member if rusted. If you have a 4x4 I’m not sure if there’s anything else to loosen.

The purpose is for drop in oil pressure. You can try replacing the pickup tube O-Ring only to see if it does the trick. If it doesn't you will have to repeat most of the procedure over again. Plus consider this, if you are going to keep the vehicle it's well worth spending a few dollars more and change the pump while you already have it apart. The original 20 minutes video shows the complete job including changing the water pump and thermostat as well. Keep in mind the mileage you have accumulated over the years. This Avalanche has over 250k. Hope I've answered your question. Have a great day.
What do you do with the old oil John? I haven't changed the oil in my cars in years. I've been taking it to Toyota because they service it for free for the first 2 years. After that I just take it to a local shop. I just like having a record of it being done professionally in case there's ever any questions come up with the warranty or anything. It's past warranty now though.
Our Local AutoZone has a permitted tank outside the back warehouse. They take for free. Not all of the auto stores can get a permit or want to, you will have to check. They also a 55 gal. drum for the used filters.
Not sure what your question is but if you worried about the impact tool over tightening, you shouldn't use one if it worries you. Thanks for the feedback.

Is it the same procedure for a 2005 Avalanche,I have tge lifter ticking noise,i heard sometimes changing the oil pick up o ring will fix this. Thanks great video.
If your engine pressure is low when you look at the gauge, that is the first sign.
John C RV driving is at 40 psi at idle is at about 35,when driving and floor the gas it goes up to 60 in passing gear. But it has the lifter ticking.
John C RV oh thanks for your reply and help.
@@Mincraft549 Sounds like the pressure is low enough to to cause the lifter ticking. I would try the o-ring on the pickup tube. but it could also be the oil pump. Watch this video to see if you want to do both while you have the pan down. ruclips.net/video/gPgtaccIPYo/видео.html Hope it helps you make a decision.
John C RV thanks.
Thanks John
No problem.
Great video. Picked up a felpro O ring from advanced auto but it’s red. Do you happen to have torque specs?
torque specs for pan bolts are 12 ft lbs.
The color o ring depends on your engine model and year. you will find out if you have the right one when you take yours down.
Good luck!
Here’s what I researched;
This is a "Red" colored O-ring from GM.
Approximate dimensions -
Thickness = 4.20mm (0.165")
ID = 20.69mm (0.815")
O-Ring Part Number #12584922 Fits the Following Applications:
W- Body 2006-2008 With LS V8 engine - Impala, Lacrosse, Grand Prix.
Chevy/GMC Pick-Up 1999-2000 LS V8 engines with 2nd design pick-up tube.
Chevy/GMC Pick-Up 2001-2008 LS V8 engines.
Hummer H2 2003-2008
Hummer H3 2008 With LS V8 engine.
Trailblazer 2003-2008 With LS V8 engine.
@@JohnCRV much appreciated for the quick response. Currently under the engine.
Thanks 🙏🏽
@@JohnCRV Hey man, thanks for the video. I went through Amazon and Advance Auto both. Both pictures showed a red O ring. Both companies gave me a black one. Can I still use this? Its a Fel-Pro 72401.

QUESTION ...THE LAST TWO LONG SCREWS HAS TO BE TORQUE FIRST. ( BEFORE THE OIL PAN SCREWS) OR HAS TO BE TORQUE ALL TOGHETHER. ALSO WHAT IS THE TORQUE SPEC. FOR OIL PAN AND LONG SCREWS.
Thanks to Jesse!
What was your before and after oil pressure? My 06 has a cold start of 40psi that drops to about 15psi after an hour of driving. Going to do the oring this weekend.
Around 15psi to 45psi.
Thanks for providing an excellent & informative tutorial! Great work!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Merry Christmas 🌲🕯️❄️🌟⛄🎅🎁
very nice video. I think I am going to have to do this on my silverado, my question is will I have to drop my front axle to complete this job?
thanks for your time
I’m assuming you have a 4x4. if I’m not mistaken you will need to drop it on blocks, about 6 inches. I’m sure there’s some videos for 4x4 oil pan removal.
Good luck and be careful.
Great video thank you so much! Idk if you’ll see this but if you were doing this yourself how long do you think it would take?
3 to 5 hours. Depends if you have a helper, tools and hard surface to work.
What are the two different color rings for?
Are you using both?
@@JohnCRV ok i got it off now. I didn't have a crowbar or a big screwdriver around at the time....sent me into panic mode. thanks! On to these pan bolts without a power tool 💪🏾😤
Its over 100 degrees today here in FL. You be safe and take your time.
@@JohnCRV I pulled the pan and it was more than a o ring. I found a liter roller and it looks like cam bearing metal scraps in there. I gotta rebuild. Pressure didn't go high enough in idle and yeah it took a dive. Collapse lifter
@@jonathansimpson1106 Sorry to hear that. Bummer

Thank you! You too Allen.
I was really enjoying the detail that you put in the video with the socket sizes and process until, the critical part for me, the torque sequence and torque value portion was completely missed.
Thanks for the feedback.
Couple quick questions.
Is there a certain torque for the oil pan bolts?
And is there a certain sequence for tightening?
Great tutorial video. Very much appreciated 👍
hey Jimmy,
torque specs for pan bolts are 12 ft lbs. but be carful with old bolts.
The torquing sequence we used was starting at the front of the pan and crisscrossed side to side. Not sure if that’s what a certified mechanic would do but
It worked out well for us.
Good luck.
After a cold start i get no pressure... Rev it up and I got over 40 psi. As long as I'm running, it stays up. Until tomorrow. Longer it sits the longer it takes to get pressure. Rattles a bit before pressure builds..
Yup! That's the symptoms.
@@JohnCRV thanks for responding. Z71 four-wheel drive. This is going to be a pain in the you-know-what. Thanks again. I really appreciate it
@@exibuchay1695 be safe!

Thanks Bob.

You don't torque the bolts when you replace the pan. How do you know they are tight enough??
I was told I need a torque wrench to do this job.
Yes, use a torque wrench
Amazing video, my friend. Full watch. Thank you for sharing. Take care.
Thank you too
U didn’t say what size bolt for the stem side of the pick up tube
they are all the same size
What was the reason you change it for??
Low oil pressure
Is everything the same as a 2006 Suburban 1500 2X4?
The procedure is the same but you need to make sure on the parts, some say there's a different color O-ring on the pickup tube for some models? Black, Red and Green, the year will dictate what color
@@JohnCRV
Gotcha. Thank you very much for confirming that the step process is the same! 👍🏼
Does color really matter? I’m getting ready to buy a “FelPro Multipurpose O-Ring” from O-Reilly’s. I believe it was black but it says it fits my vehicle.
@@karinash9373 They are different size in thickness. but very hard to tell between them. If O-Reilly’s confirmed it will fit your year and model, that should be good enough. If you see a different color when you take yours down you can always go back to them.
Good luck!
@@JohnCRV
Yeppp! Thank you again!
I had a ticking at cold start for about 30 seconds, after replacing the oil pick up tube o-ring got a little worst.any any ideas why?my oil is 40psi
The purpose is for drop in oil pressure. You can try replacing the pickup tube O-Ring only to see if it does the trick. If it doesn't you will have to repeat most of the procedure over again.
This video is; if you choose not to change the oil pump. It's actually a part of a longer and complete video. I suggest you watch it. (Complete video) oil pump & o-ring ruclips.net/video/gPgtaccIPYo/видео.html
But if you look closely I had the oil pump cover off and did change the pump as well.
We knew our oil pressure was low by the sound of the motor and loss of power.
After changing the Pressure Sensor to make sure the gauge was accurate ruclips.net/video/TAn2TsVIXnA/видео.html
I hope I'm explaining this as simple as possible....
I'm not a certified mechanic and I'm not the sharpest mind on the block! Common Sense Only. I do not advise doing the O-ring and not change the oil pump at the same time. Especially on an engine that has over 100k miles. Many people do it. (Don't ask me why)
If you haven't already realized, after watching the long version video you will realize that if changing the O-ring doesn't fix the low pressure problem, you will need to replace the oil pump and have to drop the pan all over again to get to the tube bolt.
I hope this helps you to make a decision either way.
How much is for labor to do all that that's my question
1k or more. depends where you go.
Very good tutorial but why did you do all of that was it just preventative maintenance was there a drop in oil pressure was the o ring dried up and flat or cracked. I'm sorry for rambling and if you said why you dropped the oil pan and I just didn't catch it very well put together video I was just wondering
What are the symptoms of a bad o ring????
Low oil pressure
THANK YOU!!!
You're welcome!
I did it oil psi back at 40 psi cold move up on acceleration to 60 +
great
no torque was needed on the oil pan screws?
12 Ft-Lbs but be careful when reusing the old bolts.
@@JohnCRV thanks
Does anyone know the torque specs to the oil pick up and pan bolts?
12 ft lbs.

@@JohnCRV 😄😄
What do you do with the old oil John? I haven't changed the oil in my cars in years. I've been taking it to Toyota because they service it for free for the first 2 years. After that I just take it to a local shop. I just like having a record of it being done professionally in case there's ever any questions come up with the warranty or anything. It's past warranty now though.
Our Local AutoZone has a permitted tank outside the back warehouse. They take for free. Not all of the auto stores can get a permit or want to, you will have to check. They also a 55 gal. drum for the used filters.
@@JohnCRV Cool, thank you!

What are the torque specs
Torque specs for pan bolts are 12 ft lbs. but be carful with old bolts.
Good luck.
Worried about oil filter torque but use a inpacked on bolts that have torque specs and a sequence of which bolts to tighten first
Not sure what your question is but if you worried about the impact tool over tightening, you shouldn't use one if it worries you. Thanks for the feedback.
Great video
Thanks!
