    The sides of the "wood" block is all long grain, no end grain. So it's a prop. I believe the border of the prop (the 'long grain') is made of a solid material. The inside of the block looks much more rough, and my guess is it's a long haired and tightly compressed sponge or sponge-like material painted brown to appear like wood grain lines, and you've hidden a slit between those hairs. If true, the prop maker should have end grain veneer on two ends to prevent this thought process. For a solid minute, my mind was blown. Nice trick.

    • @gbyt034
      @gbyt034 2 года назад +4

      Knew it had to do with a hidden slit

    • @Rift_Legends
      @Rift_Legends 2 года назад +7

      No, that wasn't a single piece of wood. It was two separate pieces of wood. He connected them after he pulled out the card. You can see him applying slight pressure on the side of the box at 1:10. You can also clearly see a vertical line in the middle of the piece on one side.

    • @c1dv1c1ous
      @c1dv1c1ous 2 года назад +1

      It's not two pieces. He holds it by the corner and throws it down. You even hear the sound of one solid thing hitting the table. That being said, the wood is probably the trick to the trick.

    • @wmbtech
      @wmbtech 2 года назад

      @@c1dv1c1ous Doesn't have to be two, can be five. The wood-like sponge and the veneer-edges for the 4 sides which accidentally forgot to use end-grain on two sides, showing they were attached not part of a single wooden object. If the veneers are glued together and make a solid frame to hold the sponge, then there would be two pieces, but it could just be a sponge and four veneers glued together.

    • @Rift_Legends
      @Rift_Legends 2 года назад +1

      @@c1dv1c1ous I guess you didn't read my comment properly. He pushes both parts together with his index finger+middle finger and thumb. Which makes both pieces connect with each other. That's why you didn't hear two solid things hitting the table because both pieces were connected as one.

    The end of the block looks like the grain is going horizontally while the face of the block is vertical. Id guess that the block of wood can slightly separate and the top/bottom grain going the other way allows it to slide while looking solid. Tight tolerance makes it look solid when pressed together.

    Top of my FB page “Renaissanceislandjud” is a flap sheet. It’s written for UK veterans so the hyperlinks go to UK relevant sites, but the message is the same.

    Wood was split and is actually just slightly smaller than the box. The wood is split with pins that would slide the two pieces of wood apart just enough that when you wiggled card into deck, it forced the opening to be able to slide it through. Two things I think, the camera gave up the split. The dropping of wood sounded like one piece splitting into two after hitting table.
    Could be wrong, but sure was a blast trying to figure it out.

    The block of wood is actually two pieces stuck together. The pieces can slide away from each other slightly. Revealing a small slit in the middle. Slit big enough to slide a card through it. You can see that right before he opened the box, he squeezed the sides of the box, so that the pieces slide back together and they look like a solid block when taken out.

      I noticed that the "grain" on top is a bit too straight/deep as well. My grandfather actually made me a box that expands like this forever ago, and the way they're made is that there are these little "leaves" on the inside on top, and they catch on grooves to keep it from coming apart. The sides of the expansion are hidden behind false endplates. The one I had never had a window all the way through it, but knowing how they're made, it wouldn't be hard to make a few for a card to slip through. He closed it back up when he squeezed the pack to pull the block out.

      @@mikej7237 I mean sure you could do that. The one my grandfather made was done the way his father taught him, and his, etc. My family has been doing woodworking for a while. I just never had the touch for it sadly.

    I'd like puzzles like that. Wish I had one. But I think I know the card trick. Because I work with wood. There is a technique. Especially when drilling the right size holes when putting furniture together without play. So the chair is more stable. And the clamps are your best friend.

    It’s crazy how you somehow make me care about b-roll for a puzzle piece.
    That’s a magic trick right there.

    Slides a card thru the deck..
    Me : Okay... interesting.. could just be the angle tho..
    Shows all angles..
    Me : Okay... probably like a fake deck of cards..
    Pulls out a block..
    Me : Wasn't expecting that, but I don't see any cuts in the block. it's probably collapsible.
    Throws block on table, which makes a clear solid wood sound.
    Me : K .. u got me.

    the block of wood has a slit in the middle, you just cant see it because the lining of the wood is vertical with the slit (it blends in)
