- In today's video we visit Castaway Cay, Disney's private island in the Bahamas, as part of our Very Merrytime Cruise aboard the Disney Wish cruise ship in Nov / Dec 2022! We visit the beach, do some swimming, enjoy a delicious BBQ lunch at Cookies II, have delicious and unique tropical drinks at Head's Up Bar, check out Castaway Cay exclusive merchandise and decor, see a few characters, and show you the process of getting off and back on the ship for port of call day at Castaway! It's a shame they took down my sign on Pump House 1. Before Disney got Castaway Cay, they partnered with a now defunct cruise line called Premier Cruise Line from 1985 to 1993 (Disney Cruise Line was created two years later in 1995) and had a private resort called Treasure Cay on Great Guana Cay. Big difference between a visit to Castaway Cay and Treasure Cay was pirates led by Captain Hook kidnapped passengers during dinner, and it was up to the guests to go to the island at night and rescue them. They had a buffet on the beach and everything, you could even camp on the beach overnight.
When it comes to Castaway Cay, it's original name is Gorda Cay and first settled in 1783. The island's airstrip was once used by drug runners in the 1930s. Disney purchased it in 1997.

I know it's in our Cuban genes to love warm temperatures, but at least us Cuban New Yorkers can handle the cold! 😂You said it, be grateful paradise like the Bahamas is right on your doorstep! As a flag buff, I love all the Caribbean flags at 10:09. It's the little things that count! My favorites are Dominica (the one at 10:12 with the cute purple parrot called the Imperial amazon; it's one of the only flags with purple), Martinique (the one with the snakes next to Dominica), and Barbados (the one with the cool trident at 10:09). Though the one all the way in the back on the left at 10:18 is the Netherlands Antilles and that hasn't existed since 2010 so that's an old one!
Sad fact: The one in the front on the right at 10:18 is Montserrat, whose former capital city Plymouth has been buried in volcanic ash since 1997 because of the Soufrière Hills eruptions. Majority of the island is an uninhabitable exclusion zone because of the active volcano.

I don’t know how to explain it but I love how informative your vlogs are but in a very natural way just part of the flow of the story and not that over the top phony “announcer” style that so many are trying to do now. Thank you for sticking to your natural laid back style, I learn so many “fun facts” from your vlogs and they are so soothing to me! 💓

Now THIS is how you spend a day at Castaway Cay! So glad you got a full day of sunshine after your last time. So many great moments here that you captured beautifully, the kids cheered you on when you got in the water!
When we were eating our picnic (lunch) on the beach, we had seagulls take the food right off of our plate! We lost a half a cheeseburger. 😂 Love Castaway!
LOL! Someone left their tray near us and the seagulls raided it! The only thing my brain would let me think was MINE MINE MINE!

The tornado you saw touched down on the water from your last Disney Cruise is called a “waterspout!”
Last time I was at Castaway Cay, I had an encounter with a barracuda. It never got closer than three feet from me. But it was pretty cool to see!

One of my favorite spots on Earth! I remember back in the late 90’s early 2000’s when there was a Disney Cruise Line documentary on the Travel Channel and I remember them showing Animators Palate and how it went from black and white to color by the end of dinner. I thought one day I’ll go on that maybe. I didn’t really get into Disney and Disney vacations until or first Disney Cruise on The Wonder in 2018 now I have been on 4 Disney Cruises and 4 Walt Disney World trips.

You guys are so lucky! We went this past week and had a Blustery Day at Castaway, very similar to your last trip. It was so cold and windy but by the end most people headed back to the ship and we had pretty much the whole island to ourselves for a few hours. I asked a lifegaurd and they said that we were lucky to have even docked because the last few weeks the weather hasnt allowed the ships to dock on the island. So I am so thankful that we were able to enjoy the island and make the best of it even with the storm, lol! I love their BBQ, its such a nice touch. The decos on the Frozen stand are there year round. The smoothies there are so good. Those horns are totally so fun! It really makes the cruise to hear the horns play disney tunes. We are totally hooked on DCL now! Glad you guys got to enjoy CC this time!
Fun! You know we are having a cold storm here on the Central California Coast so thinking of going out in the water just made me colder! You’d think the would be warmish there even in December.
Hi, this was very intriguing 😊 I can't ride those rides for several reasons, but I do love me some Aerosmith songs😊🎉 The Creators did amazing work on all the details on them, very awesome. Love your videos! We are doing our first cruise on the Disney Fantasy in January. Quick question for you. How is it determined what time you get off the ship at Castaway Cay? We want to get there as early as possible and just want to make sure we plan accordingly. Thanks for all of the information you share, it’s so helpful!
They will tell you disembarkation time and what time you need to be back on on the schedule and in the app! They also announce it and make it very know for ya.
Fun day at Castaway Cay! I’m with ya the hardest part to get in to the water is the chest for some reason! Food and drink looked great!! Quick q: on your camera do you have stabilization turned on and does that step down the resolution? Always a struggle to vlog on the go and your footage looked nice and stable! :-)

You guys really should try a transatalantic on Cunard, not much more than a round trip flight (so would fit on a to or from UK if you have 7 days to spare) , and it;s a different (very formal) experience with dancing and non-disney stuff, but I suspect you'd like the experiecnce as it's a remarkably similar style to the older disney ships, but without the characterrs, but with Dancing, and shows, and lectures replaciing them. We are doing one on our next trip to US when we'll be at disney following it.
We’ve actually watched several videos about Cunard cruises and are very interested and curious. Obviously neither of us are very formal type ppl or really like dressing up, but we’d be willing to try for an experience like this. I have a feeling we will one day! I hope yours is good, if you remember pls come back and let me know!

Does the cruise management make sure that everybody gets back on the ship from Cast Away Key? I mean, it's so much fun that I assume some guests can easily forget the time and wander around carelessly.
I’ve wondered about this too. I think at other ports it’s more possible for ppl to get left behind, I know it has happened. But since Disney owns this island, they can sweep and check, but mostly it’s the digital system where they scan everyone off and back on the ship so they know exactly who hasn’t checked back in yet.
I realized I haven't been swimming since 1999.

So are the only people on the island the guests that arrive on the cruise ship and the staff, or does Disney also have a resort there which houses guests that vacation for a week?

Hi Loretta, I showed and quickly mentioned the two cocktails on the menu at the bar we went to (when I showed the menu), but I'm sure there were plenty more and they could also make something! All the bars on the Wish and on Castaway had lots of lovely drinks without alcohol, which was really cool.
