Can LVH be reversed?

  • When the heart is working for a prolonged time against increased pressure, it becomes more muscular and this increased muscularity is referred to as hypertrophy. As the left ventricle is responsible for pumping blood around the body, any pathology within the body which makes it more difficult to pump blood around may over a period of time, lead to left ventricular hypertrophy. A hypertrophied heart weighs a lot more than a non-hypertrophied heart.
    Left ventricular hypertrophy is important for 2 main reasons:
    It is a sign that the heart is under stress and therefore whenever we see it, we must try and identify the stressor
    The left ventricular hypertrophy itself can cause us harm.

    having had LVH due to an adrenal tumour and shocking blood pressure for best part of 3-4 years with 3 heart meds of varying types concurrently, once tumour removed and changed diet to low carb with intermittent fasting and exercise, lost excess weight and was able to stop all heart meds. The two subsequent heart scans shown no sign of LVH - so it can be done, have hope and listen to this excellent Dr. Thanks for all you do Dr. Gupta

    • @darcybrown7369
      @darcybrown7369 3 года назад +7

      @Andrew McDowell it was moderate i believe. My endocrinologist decided the tumour was responsible for the sky high BP/ the cardiologist attributed the LVH to the BP. I was on three concurrent heart meds which only kept the BP to about 150-160/95-105 ish. Plus variety of anti sickness drugs over the period -none of which managed to stop the vomiting or nausea. Re heart drugs tried so many combinations - none of which worked great, some produced bad side effects (visiting hospital bad on occasion) and suffered many pronounced side effects to drug combinations including uncontrollable shakes, random blisters, vomiting, erratic heart rhythms, insomnia, breathlessness, etc.

    Absolutely brilliant, doctor. The complex made simple! I had an ecg today under peculiar circumstances. There was prolonged QT and T wave combo in conjunction with very high blood pressure. 180/118. They thus escorted me to AE nearby, had a blood test twice for topronin, which was found non-present. No arhythmia. Electrolytes good. Threshold rbc anaemia, probably copd related. I have stage 3 copd, greatly degraded over the past 12 months. I got a copy of the ecg, which I couldn't understand, obviously, but which I investigated on the NET, giving me a decent layman's understanding. Your talk put it all together for me, very clearly. They gave me an appointment at a cardiac clinic. I'm now up to speed, thank you so much. Keep up the good work, enjoy! 😊

    Thank you for giving a new heart patient hope. The doom and gloom is all I hear most of the time. It's so useful to have the facts and the sense of hope for the ability to reverse some of the damage I have. My only symptom of this problem was shortness of breath after eating. My doctor picked up on the problem and confirmed the diagnosis with an EKG in the office. Now onto a cardiologist for the Echo and possible stress test. My blood pressure has started to rise over my normal 115/75 in recent months. And I do snore so sleep apnea is a possibility. Hoping it's not too late to make significant, beneficial changes in my heart condition. Thanks again!

I knew something was wrong because every time I would exercise my blood pressure would drop drastically and I'd get dizzy and weak with blurred vision. I'm 71 and going to my cardiologist in 2 weeks for treatment if there is treatment. Frightening. They first gave me a heart monitor for a week and I had an ultrasound of my carotid artery and then a echocardiogram. Good luck on what you find out.

I have trivial MVP( sometimes the report says mild and sometimes trivial) and mild (in some reports trivial) MR. I remember having a sore throat for a long time when I was a kid. And it went away. I'm 35 now. I was told to take penicillin 6 every 21 days which I did for three plus years and stopped. I have chest pains and shallow breathing to which my cardio said my heart won't cause me such symptoms. So I went to a gastrologist and was diagnosed with gerd. Symptoms gets little better during and after medication but it starts again. I want to get my regular echo done but I have to travel to another state to get it done since there are no cardio in our state as of now. I will be very happy if u reply. Off topic but do you believe in CAC calcium score? I heard you could have a 0 but still have a blockage due to soft plaque? I had a O but still get chest pains?

    Thank God. I was just diagnosed with this..71 years old..and very worried. I appreciate you going over this problem. I'm going to be careful...eat healthy and easy physical exercises daily. My BP goes down rapidly when I have physical exercise and then I drink salt water for the low BP but now I'm thinking I better not do that!! Dont want the BP to go up too high. Any suggestions? I see my cardiologist in 2 weeks. Thank you!!

    Been enjoying your videos! I like how you explain things - very logically, very methodically. Is LVH the same as, or does it cause congestive heart failure? Is there a relation between the two? Please keep the videos coming! Thank you!

      Yes it does have to do with diet too. Stress etc. Healthy eating is good. If you eat sugar salt fast food. When you fast is good. Like the other person said, in between fast. I see the difference. It went from severe the moderate. Back and forth. Yes BP is a big part of it. I have had cardiomegaly since I was 5.

    Hi Sanjay! I really enjoy your videos and advice. Have you had the chance to speak to @medlifecrisis? Both of you are cardiologist in the UK and I would love to hear your agreements/disagreements on the heart effect of covid (as far as we know it)

    The problem is that areas of fibrosis/scarring don’t go away, and if the stretching/scarring involves the electrical pathways, you will still be predisposed to sudden dysrhythmias that can cause death.

    Left ventricular hypertrophy is more common in people who have uncontrolled high blood pressure. But no matter what your blood pressure is, developing left ventricular hypertrophy puts you at higher risk of a heart attack and stroke👏
