so could say that Generosity & Fortitude is his Virtues and Greed is his main Vice? I can relate, such that my Vice is Wrath though my anger is well controlled and that Fortitude & Solidarity my Virtues, to weather the storm so goes and hold firm when I remember to though not without a "say" in the matter so goes.
Spike has always been one of my favorite MLP characters as I feel he's the character I can relate to the most. Like Spike I delight in helping my family and friends for only the occasional sign of gratitude. His character has a lot of potential and I feel that if the writers stopped treating him like a punching bag he could one of the best characters in the show. Equestria Girls moved him in the right direction, showing him as a funny and helpful, being the one who helped keep Twilight in line throughout the first half of the movie. If they wrote Spike like that for the rest of the series and gave him a more prominent role he could be an amazing character.
+FlickeringSkeleton Honestly Equestria Girls went two ways for him. The positive way being what you mentioned. But the negative way being they have him be a dog instead of human. I like EQG but that is one of my big annoyances there. I say it causes stuff that really hinders him(and his human-world counterpart) a lot. Such as it limits his potential, his ability to do stuff. Like actually do stuff. Most of the time he(or EQG Spike) ends up being just.. THERE. Yes, he bailed the girls out of the trap Trixie had done but that was just a small thing(all he did was seek out help, but he could have done more if he was human). I feel like it also restricts his involvement. As in it causes him to miss out on many stuff(I say this especially for EQG Spike, I feel like his missed out on too much stuff due to being a dog). And also limits his ability to interact with characters aside from the Mane 7 since people will freak out at a talking dog. And the issue with either Spikes could end up being taken out of the picture due to "no pets allowed" in certain places(like where Twilight/Sci-Twi won't even attempt to sneak him in. They just have him miss out on whats going on) And I feel like its not fair for him. Since so far he's the ONLY character that's stuck as a dog. Heck, the Diamond DOGS got to be humans there. That's just not fair for Spike. Especially since I say the writers' reasoning on why he's a dog instead of human to be just.. plain awful.
This whole idea of "The Therapist of the Annalists" is a great one. It's a great platform for exploring characters and issues presented in MLP and applying what is learned to ourselves. Keep up the good work.
This video is now my most favorite video I've ever had the pleasure of hearing. I defidently relate to Spike, and hearing each and every word from this video reallly satisfies everything that I think about when I think about Spike as a character. II wish I could say more on this, but whats said has been said, and Eliyora...................... You are my hero!!!!!!
One thing about Spike that always struck me is that he is truly a servant character. That's why I'm not overly fond of what happened later. I liked that Spike could be totally happy with being a servant. Some people are totally happy serving someone else and just protecting someone else's values rather than their own. Everyone should be allowed to be happy in their own way.
You guys are missing something VERY important about Spike: He's basically a 10-year-old kid. Whether she's ever named so or not, Twilight is his de facto mother. She's the one taking care of him and raising him. The bond they share has always to me seemed like much more than friendship. I think as they both gotten older their relationship evolved from friends to older-sister/younger brother to what it is now--basically mother and son. Twilight's friends are also Spike's family, his adoptive aunts or big sisters. He even states that they're his family at the end of "Dragon Quest" Spike, like most young boys, gets into mischief if left on his own. So what does his adoptive mother and aunties do to make sure he doesn't run wild? they give him CHORES. When I was 10, yes I carried the luggage, helped out the relatives, mowed the lawn, raked the leaves, etc, etc. And i thought at the time no one appreciated what I did either, but it does really help to build character that comes to fruition later in life. If Spike was adult like the Mane 6, then yes what he's doing would be a problem. But as a kid, Its how Spike contributes to his family that loves him and supports him and takes care of him.
(Respectfully, I believe that you're misinterpreting the problem. Spike is an assistant, and loves being an assistant, and has been an assistant for what is probably all his life. Twilight, while she can be rather curt with him at times, does appreciate him, and I think that the rest of the Mane Six do appreciate him as well. The problem here isn't about them, or his relationship to them, or the fact that he is doing good work for everypony around him. The problem here is how he is being reduced and attacked for doing it. As the video showed, he makes the nachos for everypony in the library after they show up? Everypony leaves and he wound up doing all that work for nothing. He carries all that luggage? ALL of their luggage, in his arms, which is obviously tiring, and he gets rewarded for that, but what happens? A bird snatches the reward right out of his claws. There's nothing wrong with acknowledging what's done in charity and good will towards another. He doesn't HAVE to go above and beyond trying to help, but he does. And does he need to have a reward and fanfare every time? No, basic appreciation and decency is all that's needed. However is it too much to ask that the world around him not actively PUNISH him for being helpful, and good, and kind, and doing his utmost to help everypony around him? I suppose the crux of my argument, is that Spike himself doesn't see himself as being unappreciated, and the Mane Six do appreciate him and his works, so that's actually not the problem. The problem is that he is being actively punished by the story and the world for doing GOOD THINGS for other ponies... If that keeps up, then he's going to make the connection. And the kind of character that builds, is not the kind of character we ever want to see someone have in real life. Or, and maybe this is a more legitimate reason for concern. What kind of character do you think it will build in the ones watching? The young and impressionable minds who make the connection between doing something good for somepony, and then getting immediately punished for it? ... And also respectfully, I am a bit angry about this subject at the moment, so if I've come off as abrasive or rude I apologize. Thank you for reading.)
***** (I will concede that I may be taking things too seriously. That'll happen when you care about something, or see something that really rubs you the wrong way. And it can get out of hand when one doesn't distinguish between 'I don't like this' versus 'this must be eradicated everywhere'. However I believe this is entering more into the realm of personal opinion than proper analysis, and my personal opinion is simply that while I don't mind Spike being the brunt of the joke, I feel as though he is always, unceasingly, and unrelentingly, the brunt of very cruel jokes. And it makes me angry. Played for comedy or not, there are lines, and I feel as though the world is crossing those lines with Spike... It seems rather mean-spirited to me. And I suppose that I just can't see it as harmless fun, and all it looks like to me is hurting a good person because they can. I am glad that he is loved by the characters though, even if they sometimes take him for granted... I don't feel as though he's completely unappreciated.)
***** i think that really is the main problem whit spike. he is nothing more than big joke. nachos, hot(carrot)dog, always carrying raritys bags even thou she has a magical horn she could use to simply make her stuff flote whit her. spike is not really more than a funny backroud character. he really is that humdrum from powerpony comic and nothing more. just like this video shows in every serious part of any episode when spike would be able to really help and be usefull he is no where to be seen. we all know he is there whit main 6 in manehattan but after he carriet raritys bags he just simply stops existing in the episode. no one even mentioned him after that. little kids can only see him as something to laugh at im sure but it hurts me to see him always being that butt of a joke.
I am really starting to get that surreal feeling whenever I watch these types of vids from you Doc, It's just, who would of thought of the internet, especially RUclips, would the host website of an in-depth conversation between two individuals who share openly and honestly about what they feel in regards the a tv cartoon. I appreciate the work you put into these vids DRWolf001 , the videos are rare, and really underappreciated. And thank you too for sharing Eliyora Believe it or not, many people can empathize with you.
I really enjoy these Moments with Dr. Wolf, and Spike being abused by the narrative has been something that irked me as well. I'm glad you decided to explore it a bit. Great work.
Honestly, I think that rather than enforcing his own self-worth, I think the day will come where Spike will show it off, like a diamond finally being unearthed from the dust. I also believe it will be that very day he realizes that "his friends are his one true treasure." At which point, he will mature greatly, not only in his own view, but in the view of others, becoming reminiscent of that "white knight" fantasy he had about Rarity some time ago. Spike is a baby dragon now, but that means that he has a lot of raw and realized potential. And, if it's going to happen at all, the day that he shows what he's truly made of is fast approaching, I believe.
I too can relate to the feeling of having kindness taken advantage of and feeling like I only get bitten in the butt for it. Those moments though when you truly are appreciated for your effort, and honored for your kind spirit, make it worth it to me. We find it easy to focus on those karmic justice moments but those everyday moments that are good, or at least not bad, don't stand out. It truly is in the little things.
Spike is the most relatable charecter too me. I too feel like spike. He tries so hard too be helpful, he has an incredible scence of honor. But he never loses hope and deeply cares for his friends. Never mind he's a male pow on the show.
This could actually explain all of the rarityxspike ships because like it was said in the harmonious relationships episode, how opposites attract. The fact that rarity is overblown and generous but spike is humble yet very sacrifical, that would actually make a lot of sense for sparity fanfiction. GO WRITERS, WRITE SOMETHING SAUCY WITH THIS MATERIAL!
I'd love to see an episode in which the Mane 6 travel into the future and we get to see what Spike's life is like after he isn't Twilight's assistant anymore. In fact, I'd love for an episode like that to mainly focus on Spike instead of the Mane 6. While the future of most of the other characters seems certain, Spike's is more of a grey area and figuring it out mostly relies on speculation. It would be an interesting concept for the writers to play with and I'd want to see what they come up with.
DRWolf001 as long as the growth sticks, it would open up many new story possibilities. Its so exciting, i really hope the staff decides to let Spike keep growing as a character and becoming more complex.
Been related to Spike? I never thought of that... but I agree with Eliyora, the whys she relate to him and also the fact that I would also love to see some development for Spike, the only time we've seen him alone was when he went to find more dragons and the time he stayed home alone to take care of the pets, I also wonder... no one else realize that HE is the ONLY dragon living among ponies. Anyway! Another great video Doc! :)
Ooof... that feed-back from Eli's mic. Anyway, I think part of the problem with Spike is that the writers have put him into the defacto comedic object role. Need a bit of slapstick? Spike. Need a running gag for a screw-up? Spike. Instead of pushing the role of the 'little brother' or 'competent assistant'. A few episodes get it right, but "Spike at your service" is one of the worst examples of writing him as a incompetent klutz despite evidence to the contrary. At the heart of it, I agree with you DrWolf that he could be used as an example to the viewers of someone who enjoys helping others and how to take life's bumps. Despite my dislike of Equestria Girls, it still has one of the best versions of Spike I've seen in the show. A strong and compassionate voice for the frantic Twilight with just the right amount of sarcasm to let us know that he isn't oblivious.
Another amazing thought provoking analyses vid. Something that has always gotten me, is that even though Spike is shown to be in the same age range of the mane 6. this fact is seen in the (The Cutie Mark Chronicles S1). He is still treat very much as a child by most of the mane cast. This could be for a number of reasons, such as there lack on knowledge about Spike in the first place. I mean in the show we have only had a few eps about Spike and in most of them to a large degree, Spike isn't shown to hang out with anyone else other than twilight and whenever his is around someone else he seems too be doing some type of manual labor. Meaning any time he would have had to develop some common ground with the other cast, would have been interrupted or lacking focus on both there parts. e.g. every time we see him trying to talk or help rarity, any time within the series; he is either helping her work, being a lovestruck Humdrum or writing a letter And Rarity is either focusing on her dress making or some other manual or mental task. Meaning that even if Spike is still paying attention and trying his best to learn more about the cast, his efforts would have been in vain from the start; especially around such a pony as Twilight or Rarity, as there minds would be focused on other tasks all together. This could explain the reasons behind Spikes lack of development within the series. But I also have another reason. In Dragon Quest and Secret Of My Excess we found out that the Pony's as a society, know little to nothing about the Dragon Kingdom. This is even given the perfect metaphor for this point Spike 'I wonder if dragons can cry", this one sentence show how little Spike know about his knows heritage. And if he knows this little about himself how are the other members of the cast meant to be able to gage him and his actions? One of the most telling things in this episode is at the end if it, spike is seen editing the past by applying himself the mane 6's group photo. (mlp.wikia.com/wiki/Dragon_Quest/Gallery?file=Main_six_photo_with_Spike_pasted_on_S2E21.png) Lastly a Dragons perception of time will be different from that of a Pony's and there existence and way of life is based upon the philosophical idea of (Externalism) The philosophical idea that the brain’s thought presses is fundamentally based on the reality that encompasses the body. As such your emotions , thought processes, very prospective of reality and self awareness could be dependant on the world around you. The is shown in the Secret To My Excess in the form of the Greed Dragon. With this type of life that is heavily based on ones perception of time and Externalism; how will a mortal pony ever be able to grasp what it is like to be a dragon, to be able to feel the world around you in a different light to which you are not used to. ( the short answer is that its impossible) These reasons stated above are my evaluation of spikes presences in the show MLP FIM. hope it was able to provoke some series thoughts. From Greetings. Also really looking forward to the next vid and audio play, thanks for reading.
I find it interesting that you are at your best doctor when you are talking to people about the irl problems ( even when it's not the subject of the video ) or when your with a mainly comedic reviewer
Life, so full of struggles and hardships. One can only take so much, but that only makes us stronger. I am sure Spike will get his spotlight soon enough. If one thing is for sure, is that Spike is the one character that will always be there to help when least expected. He's proven that much already.
With all the abuse he's increasingly forced to take, it might be interesting if Spike decided one day that he was sick of it all, and decided to become British. Conversation from 'Fresh Prince of Bell Air' Geoffrey (The Butler): Master William, what's wrong? Will: Oh I don't know Geoffrey. It's just this business with - G: Oh forgive me sir, but there seems to have been a grave misunderstanding. W: What do you mean Geoffrey? G: Well sir, I seem to have given you the mistaken impression that I actually cared. I know it's a cliche for butlers to be British and sarcastic (or flippant), and so Twilight and the others would guess that something was wrong when Spike began doing a comedic imitation of such characters (plus it would just be funny).
I share your feelings Eliyora. I kbow how it feels to be different from everyone in your family; especially when your sufferibg from mental & physical afflictions that are difficult for others to understand. I just would like you to know your not alone out there and I ♡ your youtube content. Keep a stiff upper lip.
Dr , wolf , do you have any videos on the fear of becoming a failure ? I have this issue since im a teen who has just started highschool and im thinking about the road ahead of me . I would like hearing a topic on this issue . My mind is all over the place right now because of puberty lol but seriously , any links ?
i relate to spike in a way because i'm a backing singer in a rock band, i rarely ever get a thanks,i get pushed about a lot and i'm not sure anyone even notices my musical talent. i feel like the band doesn't need me but i enjoy singing to the bands tracks and i'm not sure what to do anymore.can anyone help me????
I love these and when I explain these videos to my friends they get the wrong idea. :/ But keep up the GREAT work Your stuff is very intertaining! -AwesTube
I kind of want Spike to be more like an Usopp (for anyone who has watched One Piece you will know who he is). To where he *grows* as a character becoming more and more mature and know how to handle situations besides needing the help of one of the mane six. I mean, Spike has the ability to handle things on his own and not be a comedic punching bag, but the writers keep treating him as one. Yes I know that Spike is a baby dragon, but he just needs to be more well known then just that "comedic laughter guy". What Spike needs is his own episode again, but this time it should be done right and not be such a major confusion in the plot like "Spike At Your Service" or "Only For Sidekicks" Look, all I am saying is that they just need to treat Spike as if he was actually part of the mane 6 learning a valuable lesson.
2:24 I now how you feel, I do a lot of kind things for my family and after a while its just become expected of me to do those things. Sometimes people expect from me now so much that if I don't do some of those things I get criticized. At least spike is being treated better in season 4.
.... FIRST. okay, more than first. i enjoyed this video, as i really hate how spike is abused and made to seem like a slave of some sort. also, i just generally enjoy your videos.
Spike's my favorite character and while I cant relate to not feeling needed if not being able to be helpful it still annoys me if not angers me to no end when He's treated like a joke or unimportant and I know some people like to say he's to young to be the hero of the show sense he's like what 10 or 12 something like that. But while I can understand that point of view but at the same time if he's to young to be a hero or at least important for an episode or two then he's to young to be treated like a punching bag or the pack mule of the group I mean how many times has he been thrown at least 20 feet in the air and is just left to smash to the ground with no pony even attempting to catch him? or how many times has he carried piles of luggage that a unicorn like Rarity could easily carry with magic!?
Isn't Spike's role technically to be a baby dragon, born into slavery to a unicorn? I mean, come on, you even see his birth in one episode, where he's adorable. Another thing, what if considering his dependency on being Twilight's little dragon slave that he grows too big and has let loose into the world? What is he gonna do? Is he going to do what normal dragons do, or will he associate any random unicorn for his master?
I was just thinking about how I can kind of relate to Spike when I stumbled upon this. I can't relate to him on the same level as Eliyora but I can definitely relate to just wanting to help .
Hey there doc! I want to ask you something :3 What program do you use to edit your videoes? I'm starting up a review channel and I reaaaally want to know :D Thanks anyway >u
On your screen time in the Mad Munchkin Blethers about None Pony OCs, you said your the only wolf or wolf-like OC to your knowledge. Well, have you ever heard of TheLupinEarReader?
Well, yes, Spike does show a great example of sacrifice and that is an important thing to learn, but they should show Spike a little more independent to show that we should also take care for ourselves sometimes.
... I'm sorry Eliyora... I can sympathize... not so much my family, buhings get better fort everyone else I know... I identify with Spike a lot myself. I genially hope things get better for you!
I've been thinking and I've asked myself what drives us to stay in this fandom despite the problems with the episode? Why do most of the fans freak out over something that shouldn't be worth freaking out over? Tell me what you think of this topic.
I have a major problem with the message here. Saying that Spike should silently put up with everything he goes through is like saying that staying in an abusive relationship builds character and is therefore admirable. It takes a strong person to endure, but it takes an even stronger person to decide enough is enough.
I don't get it. Is spike hated by the writers at this point as well? Do they agree with the fans that he isn't good?(Digi being a good example). I really hope not and they better fix this by next season. Also to the writers MOVE THE SUB ROMANCE PLOT OF RARITY AND SPIKE OR JUST FUCKING END IT! Fuck! Don't leave it in limbo.
To start with, I do agree that the writers are being unfair with Spike, and they quite often make Spike being harmed/tricked by everything and the world a running gag (it's not funny the first time you've tried it, writers, it's much less than funny now), and I quite often say "Aw, poor Spike. :(" because it does get so unfair to him, I mean, what did he do to deserve so much karma in his life?? What, is he the reincarnation of an ultimate villain??? Anyways, joking aside, it does get pretty annoying how poor Spike is just the butt of a passable joke, many at times, and he's never given real development (actually, I think the only episode we really see anything more from Spike that's not him becoming evil/bad/taking advantage of others nor him being kicked around by everything is Equestria Games, and that was an applaudable, commendable, exceptionable episode). Now, as in coming down to personal identification with Spike, you see, I cannot see myself as Spike, but I do get where is he coming from, being always so helpful and never even expecting a thank you from anyone, and being ever so patient with life's many ways with messing with him, I am much of a person who likes helping, even if it's for nothing. I don't know, just seeing others succeed, and knowing that you've helped them do something, and now they are happy about it, it makes me happy, it's often enough for me. I mean, I do sometimes hope that maybe I do get some recognition at first, but I don't mind if I don't. Actually, the only times I get angry with people about that is if they start acting like I should always be thankful to everything they do, and yet they never even thank me for anything (I just hope for some reciprocity, IDK.) But, I'm glad being in the shadows. The spotlight is a scary place for me, and recognition for something I've done for others, many at times, sounds fake, or overdone, I don't know. Also, last, but not least, I do think that part of the reason why Spike doesn't seek retribution is because he sort of fears himself, mainly because of his draconian nature, and how it has messed with him before, like in Secret of my Excess. IDK, maybe also he thinks that his bad karma is also sort of deserved, too.
I think that, since dragons grow to a size directly proportional to how greedy they are, some part of the universe is trying to keep him from getting greedy...though it may be overcompensating for the issue. However, remember back in "Just For Sidekicks" that Zecora told Spike that dragon greed was bad mojo, so maybe this is what she was referring to? I don't know. I'm not sure if Spike losing his hotcarrot to a random bird was the writers' fault, though. I agree, though, that they could have done a better job with it.
I do wished he doesn't end up getting the short end of the stick honestly.. Especially with I wished he doesn't end up missing out a lot of stuff/being left out.
This... I can relate to and understand, in that of not being appreciated in so far as being taken for granted by smaller or lesser minds that just brush or blow off my 'devotion to the cause' and somehow think being bullies or bigots is somehow an Ok thing to do or be, esp with being Narks. That you somehow are allowed to go behind someone's back and make claims anonymously without their approval or knowledge, and not be held by it to face them with what you would say. *If its not worth saying **_TO_** them, then it is not worth saying **_About_** them either.* It really pissed me off where I kept getting the short end of the stick by clans for a quick time in WoT for being a great player both for _AS_ a very good player in game but for being a strong & good contribution to the group. That people just would take me for granted and talk shit & lies behind my back for their "reasons", and unqualified "Leaderships" persons dumping the shit on me, forcing the issue such that I'd just have to leave them to rot in their disgrace to the human race. Keep doing it though to one who matters, and it gets old. I finally find a GOOD group unlike RAZE, BOW, & MOWR among a few, with SSGS but didn't want to go pushing anything too far again to get stabbed in the back again, so with PC issues just enough to make me unsure of playing along with the lack of interests in others for a time, I've not played WoT actual for about 3 months. I still like posting on Forums and seeing what people have to say though, but actually playing... meh, I might though some soon. Main thing is not being so open to being or getting pushed around or pushed aside, and more fully developing my assets so I have the first and only say in my affairs not as an open to employ free-use clansman but a Pay-to-hire Merc with fees to have on the team to be paid, and respect to be shown, else am free to leave for better jobs. *People only appreciate something when its not freely given so it seems... such is life and goes with what had to deal with when was in the Reserves about being a genuinely good soldier and person, that didn't like sitting on my ass when could instead be of use. That if you are too good but also freely their without need of call an asset, people will take you for granted and start to _Expect_ it of you. So yeah....
I want to know how spike views Twilight, personally I think spike views Twilight as motherly figure, wanting to impress her. Like a child wanting to impress their mother/father. How do you feel?l
I wouldn't be surprise if spike has a major part to play in the season 4 season finale which will also be Twilight's key episode. look at this: Rarity Takes Manehatten 3 rainbow shines Rainbow Fall 3 rainbow Shine Pinkie Pride 13 Rainbow shine. It's Ain't Easy being breezies 3 A Leap of Faith ? rainbow shines 13+3+3+3+?=? we know twilight will be the focus of the season end story. so episode 25 or 26. now we can assume the last key episode before the season end is Applejack which will most likely have 3 rainbow shines as well so it's 3+3+13+3+3=25 and the episode numbers are 8,10,2,16,20 10+20=30+12=42+8=50+16=66 66+25=91. spike was in episode 8, 12, 16. in episode 10 The cmc were hinted at. in episode 15 the cmc were shown as starting to grow. Somehow the season end with Twilight's key must include Spike, the Cutie mark Crusaders and Discord. the staff is setting up for a big event.
Dr. wolf this comment may get lost in your piles of fan notices but, I would like to see your thoughts on something that came to my mind while watching Diamonds song in the climax of Crusaders of the lost mark. In a brief moment we see the mother talking to members of her social class with her nose high in the air and acting like for lack of better words like she's better than those around her. But the very same moment that diamond says "what my family would think if I failed at anything" Filthy actually raises his brow like he's about to question what his child just said. I don't have enough evidence to take things further but. . . Filthyrich seems so much nicer than his wife as far as the relationships he has with other ponies. Spoiledrich I can imagine is about as nice as Princeblueblood if she isn't gaining a higher status from the glory of her wealth. I don't know how to say it best but I feel like it would be a good idea to compare the two and see if Diamond Tiara's "family" would judge her or if it really is just her mother thats forcing her to be better than she actually wants to be.
+SymbolicSky I suppose it wouldn't surprise me if Filthy had the same thoughts about impressing other High Class ponies as Spoiled does, but just goes about it in far more subtle ways.
Maybe, I just feel that as a character Filthy has been represented to be so much nicer than Spoiled. Perhaps its just my desire to see the good in others. So far we haven't been given a reason to like Spoiled, where Filthy has had enough depth to imply he doesn't really rub his wealth in your face. I do very much appreciate your reply though. I look forward to see more from you as we approach season 6 ^w^
Filthy Rich is a business pony who knows better than to offend or alienate potential customers or providers. Especially Apple family. Whether business is the main reason, we can't really know.
well the reason I have for this is that, we've seen her father in Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep and he was helping with the rest of the group, that may not mean much but I feel that it gives him substance where spoiled rich is stepping on anyone she deems lesser than her. Filthy may be rich but I don't feel like he wold be that cold given that he has shown himself to be an okay colt.
SymbolicSky Maybe they could do an episode with the CMC having to help Diamond Tiara with her parents fighting or something. Filthy Rich is obviously the better parent of the two
The clip of the Season 5 Animatic doesn't help matters. Spike is left behind so the rest of the Man 6 can go on a 'road trip' He's basically the Ron Weasley of the show by now. It's like 'Power Ponies' has been forgotten besides a quick gag in 'Trade Ya'
+Greatsaiyankirby Hurts more that this essentially got repeated in Rainbow Road trip(the recent special). He ends up not getting to go with the girls on the trip.
Sacrifice also is very important when greed is his weakness and can lead to a very disastrous situation very quickly.
so could say that Generosity & Fortitude is his Virtues and Greed is his main Vice?
They just have him miss out on whats going on)
And I feel like its not fair for him. Since so far he's the ONLY character that's stuck as a dog. Heck, the Diamond DOGS got to be humans there.
That's just not fair for Spike. Especially since I say the writers' reasoning on why he's a dog instead of human to be just.. plain awful.
At 3:55 Spike just read fanfics about himself.
Another great video Dr. And good job Eli
I think Eliyora needs a hug.
I can't believe it! You actually made me like Spike a little more just by watching this video. Well done! Keep up the good work!
It does feel kind of saddening when spike gets a stronger character within the comics than in the actual show
You guys are missing something VERY important about Spike:
He's basically a 10-year-old kid.
He even states that they're his family at the end of "Dragon Quest"
Spike, like most young boys, gets into mischief if left on his own.
*****
(I will concede that I may be taking things too seriously.
As they stated, it's not how the mane 6 treat him. Rather, th narrative.
Good point
I am really starting to get that surreal feeling whenever I watch these types of vids from you Doc,
It's just, who would of thought of the internet, especially RUclips, would the host website of an in-depth conversation between two individuals who share openly and honestly about what they feel in regards the a tv cartoon.
Great work.
My mom loves Spike. Just thought I'd say that.
Oh Spike, your are my favorite MLP character and inspiration for many of my characters.
HASBRO! MAKE A SPIKE SPIN OFF!
The doc is funny in these. XD
Nice to know I'm not the only one who gets the urge to call Child Protective Services whenever that poor little bugger's on screen...
i know how you feel Eliyora
Wise as always, Doctor Wolf.
And Eliyora, your fantastic and your reviews are enjoyable. Don't ya ever forget it!
Maybe Spike will acquire the sixth key!
That would make for some excellent growth to Spike's character and importance in the show.
DRWolf001 as long as the growth sticks, it would open up many new story possibilities. Its so exciting, i really hope the staff decides to let Spike keep growing as a character and becoming more complex.
ahhhhhhhhhh, tsssssssss, yeeeeaaaahhhh, about that...
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+Buc Reviewer Well.. he got the short end of the stick there...
It's about time somebody gives Spike sympathy instead of just blaming and insulting him.
I feel ya, Eli! In fact my moment with Doctor Wolf will be very similar... hmm...
Spike's kind of like Luigi, only not as cool.
Or good at jumping. He can breathe fire though.
Duchess Van Hoof not good at jumping? ruclips.net/video/77JgM5PHqMw/видео.html
Ooof... that feed-back from Eli's mic.
(mlp.wikia.com/wiki/Dragon_Quest/Gallery?file=Main_six_photo_with_Spike_pasted_on_S2E21.png)
Lastly a Dragons perception of time will be different from that of a Pony's and there existence and way of life is based upon the philosophical idea of (Externalism)
The philosophical idea that the brain’s thought presses is fundamentally based on the reality that encompasses the body.
( the short answer is that its impossible)
These reasons stated above are my evaluation of spikes presences in the show MLP FIM. hope it was able to provoke some series thoughts.
From Greetings.
Also really looking forward to the next vid and audio play, thanks for reading.
I find it interesting that you are at your best doctor when you are talking to people about the irl problems
( even when it's not the subject of the video ) or when your with a mainly comedic reviewer
Another well done piece about breaking down Pride.
Well done, Doc! =)
If she woud have said anything negative of spike i woud have dislike this. Luckly this was spikein a good light
1:16 *AHEM* didn’t twilight once say that just because she didn’t need spikes help doesn’t mean she thinks he’s not helpful.
WOW THAT WAS GREAT!! I loving your guys videos!!
Life, so full of struggles and hardships. One can only take so much, but that only makes us stronger. I am sure Spike will get his spotlight soon enough.
If one thing is for sure, is that Spike is the one character that will always be there to help when least expected. He's proven that much already.
Cool video, I love these moments, keep it up!
Maybe all this has been the writer's ways of building him up to be an element holder; perhaps the element of humility.
Nice video man you're doing really well
With all the abuse he's increasingly forced to take, it might be interesting if Spike decided one day that he was sick of it all, and decided to become British.
Conversation from 'Fresh Prince of Bell Air'
Geoffrey (The Butler): Master William, what's wrong?
Will: Oh I don't know Geoffrey. It's just this business with -
G: Oh forgive me sir, but there seems to have been a grave misunderstanding.
I love this series!
I now have a new and respectful outlook on both Spike and you, Eliyora.
Who else jumped at about 00:25 when Eliora shouted "YES!"?
i relate to spike in a way because i'm a backing singer in a rock band, i rarely ever get a thanks,i get pushed about a lot and i'm not sure anyone even notices my musical talent. i feel like the band doesn't need me but i enjoy singing to the bands tracks and i'm not sure what to do anymore.can anyone help me????
I feel like Eliyora. I do things like that, and when I fail, I get yelled at, and when I succeed, nobody cares. Unless my siblings are helping.
I feel for Eliyora. I can't say I've ever been in the family position, but I have felt utterly useless and pushed aside in my actions.
In "It Ain't Easy Being Breazies", I almost put my fist through the screen. o__________o'
I'm with ya, man.
To Eliyora: I respect you now.
To Dr. Wolf: Book me for a session on "not being listened to or taken seriously."
I was just thinking about how I can kind of relate to Spike when I stumbled upon this. I can't relate to him on the same level as Eliyora but I can definitely relate to just wanting to help .
No sacrifice, no victory - Hammerfall
I personally love Eliyora. She is so adorable.
+NintendoVeteran85 me too
7:59- Amen Doc, amen.
So... Spike is Milhouse?
Hey there doc! I want to ask you something :3
What program do you use to edit your videoes? I'm starting up a review channel and I reaaaally want to know :D
Thanks anyway >u
i'm with Eliyora Spike is just the butt of the joke now a days
On your screen time in the Mad Munchkin Blethers about None Pony OCs, you said your the only wolf or wolf-like OC to your knowledge. Well, have you ever heard of TheLupinEarReader?
0:22 that's me when my friends are angry wolves face XD
It's kinda funny that for a show that's been praised for going agents gender stereotypes, the males characters are a bunch of stereotypes themselves.
Well, yes, Spike does show a great example of sacrifice and that is an important thing to learn, but they should show Spike a little more independent to show that we should also take care for ourselves sometimes.
I like u Dr wolf. Your cool. X3
Doc you do realize that she owns a flamethrower
Fuck! Don't leave it in limbo.
redtutel Good point. I just wish he had better take of direction. I always hate the claims of spike sucking.
I think She could use a new mic, there's a buzz whenever she talks
*If its not worth saying **_TO_** them, then it is not worth saying **_About_** them either.*
It really pissed me off where I kept getting the short end of the stick by clans for a quick time in WoT for being a great player both for _AS_ a very good player in game but for being a strong & good contribution to the group.
So yeah....
Preach on sister... Preach on.
Yeah. All the other characters have had considerable character developement yet they refuse to let him grow up.
I want to know how spike views Twilight, personally I think spike views Twilight as motherly figure, wanting to impress her. Like a child wanting to impress their mother/father. How do you feel?l
I always thought of a guy who made a lot of nachos
I personally think spikes annoying...but i dont hate or dislike him. He's adorable! XD
I feel your pain Eliyoua, about your family
(2:05)-(3:03)
Look at it this way: at least Spike isn't tortured as badly as Squidward- Yet.
Can you do AMWDW for Spike himself?
Lol, I agree the same!
I wouldn't be surprise if spike has a major part to play in the season 4 season finale which will also be Twilight's key episode.
look at this: Rarity Takes Manehatten 3 rainbow shines
Rainbow Fall 3 rainbow Shine
Pinkie Pride 13 Rainbow shine.
It's Ain't Easy being breezies 3
A Leap of Faith ? rainbow shines
13+3+3+3+?=?
we know twilight will be the focus of the season end story. so episode 25 or 26. now we can assume the last key episode before the season end is Applejack which will most likely have 3 rainbow shines as well so it's 3+3+13+3+3=25
and the episode numbers are 8,10,2,16,20
10+20=30+12=42+8=50+16=66
66+25=91.
spike was in episode 8, 12, 16.
in episode 10 The cmc were hinted at.
in episode 15 the cmc were shown as starting to grow.
Somehow the season end with Twilight's key must include Spike, the Cutie mark Crusaders and Discord. the staff is setting up for a big event.
*****
Who do you think will give Twilight her key?
Discord? Sweetie bell? Trixie? Sunset Shimmer?(based on a rumor)
or a more powerful unicorn?
Dr. wolf this comment may get lost in your piles of fan notices but, I would like to see your thoughts on something that came to my mind while watching Diamonds song in the climax of Crusaders of the lost mark.
Filthy Rich is obviously the better parent of the two
I feel scared that I can relate to Eliyora in a huge way just like ToonkriticY2K
when will spike get his cutie mark?? will he even be able to find one? to do that would he need to stop being the way he is?
The clip of the Season 5 Animatic doesn't help matters. Spike is left behind so the rest of the Man 6 can go on a 'road trip' He's basically the Ron Weasley of the show by now. It's like 'Power Ponies' has been forgotten besides a quick gag in 'Trade Ya'
+Greatsaiyankirby Hurts more that this essentially got repeated in Rainbow Road trip(the recent special).
He ends up not getting to go with the girls on the trip.
Spike is actually like Kon from Bleach in a lot of ways.
That is my life.
What would your profession in this series be classed as?
DRWolf001 In the fandom from the show I have felt anrgy at the insults to Derpy Hooves I really have something to say about that
Wtf? Eliyora relates to Spike for being a comedic punching bag? SHE'S BEHAVING EXACTLY THE SAME!!! Especially to dudes, like MLPSilverQuill.
i think spike is the pet and slave of Twily :3
This has been a problem since the top of season 3, but thankfully, it seems to becoming less and less so.
Poor spike.
