I just went down a research rabbit hole. From what I could dig up, in 1958: 50,000 (old) French francs were worth about $120, 500 Dutch guilders were worth about $130, 1000 British shillings (50 pounds) were worth about $140, and 50,000 Italian lire were worth about $80, for a total of about $470. This matches up reasonably well with the fact that the foreign currency appears to have contributed $457 to that player's final total. ($1934 trip + $457 foreign + $1000 US = $3391 displayed total) Francs were dropping by quite a bit at the time, and they only would have been worth about $100 in 1959, so that's probably where most of the difference is.
All those stacks of foreign currency were only worth $457 in 1958 money. I wonder if Mr. Maneri broke even tax-wise on that one... (edit: I subtracted 1000 + the trip's value from his final winnings shown at the end)
50,000 francs 500 guilders 1,000 schilling 50,000 lire And Bill Cullen gives him $1,000 cash. I wonder how much the foreign money is US currency. 16:38

Back then the hairdresser was known as a confirmed bachelor. He wasn’t asked if he was married.
On the show before was a salon stylist who had 4 children , it's a proffesion not an orientation! 🙄
