Had a Aussie delivered CBR250RR as my first bike. 7000km on it when I bought it. You never forget that scream. Doubt any of my neighbors ever did either.
Playwme Surname truth. I have the '92 fzr 250, and it hauls ass. Nothing beats a early 90s supersport 250. I truly think even the modern ninja 250s don't stand a chance against them. What is your opinion? It seems like the 90s was the golden era for 250cc sport bikes. They seem so unrestricted unlike modern 250s
Yeah, new ones are rubbish. Theyre built down to a price point. CBR250RR brand new in Australia in 1998 was $10k. Ninja 250 20 years later is $6k. Best 250 I’ve found in the last 10 years is the Yamaha WR250X Supermotard. It’s single cylinder though, and was still very pricey when new for a 250.
F1 only breached 20,000 RPM with BMW engine in 2002. Honda was doing it in 1990 with street legal bikes. It's also worth noting that the RC 66 250cc straight six could also reach 19,000 in race trim.
Engines went over 21k RPM in testing with the BMW Williams. But by 2006 FIA changed to V8s which couldn't rev as high, in 2007 they were limited to 19k by regulations, then 18k.
It's worth noting that the Honda RC149 reportedly hit 21k rpm in 1966. They used the same engine in the bike for the full race season, and had very few mechanical problems. Reportedly the bike was still accelerating, but the rider had to brake for a corner. The RC149 is a 4 stroke, DOHC, inline 5 cylinder, 125cc, with 4 valves per cylinder and 5 carburettors. The bike could hit 130mph.
Or even 3 cylinder engines that are 400cc or less. Trouble today is corporations aren't willing to risk anything. They want maximum money for the least risk. Talk about a formula for boring.
Having owned and worked on a majority of these bikes here in nz. I found The best ones were the Honda's with the gear driven camshafts. Sounds cool and no pesky rattling timing chains as i found with the gsxr 250 and zxr 250 400. Cbr250rr or vfr400r all the way(i have my old one i sold on my channel)
My friend's old boss blew an MC22 engine at 24,000 RPM on the dyno with a fuel injection conversion & a high performance programnable ecu set at 28,000RPM to find out the stress point for the MC14e engine . The engine speed was measured with a hooked up oscilliscope measuring the spark signal .
Do you have a forum post on this or know what HP/KW they were able to get out of it at each RPM levels? I am making my own engine based on the 250cc 4 cyls from that era, and would love to know what work they had done on the engine to get it prepared for 24,000 RPM.
@@Kowalamaster Slightly firmer valve springs . Custom carburettor jets made in the workplace , also exhaust modifications . The standard limit is measured on the oscilloscope as between 16,800 and 17,000 depending on how good the electrolytic capacitors are .and not 19,000 claimed .We used audio grade ones .
Honestly I am kind of fed up with the horsepower abundance nowadays. If I am talking bikes with someone and he tells me he rides one of these, I will be much more interested than if he tells me he has an R1 or a superduke.
Kawasaki ZX-R 250 is a nice bike !!! This is the best motorcicle compilation i ever see on this channel !! Honda hornet is very popular on Brazil, but here is 600cc,i had no idea she existed in 250cc !!!
Yep! I own a ZXR-250..rode it till the engine blew up. Then I got myself another beauty...a 1998 ZX-6R. Had so much fun with it...till I hit a dog at 170Kmph. Destroyed the bike and my knee cap...but the stupid dog lives. 9 months later, I bought a Vulcan500...rode it like I stole it...blew the engine again..then I settled for something more "docile"....a 2006 CBR600RR..which I raced for 2 years...which I still commute in.
I actually previously owned two of the featured bikes, the GPZ400R & the FZR250RR. The GPZ was my first 'big' bike after passing my bike test 23 years ago & the FZR I owned a few years later. I fitted a free-flowing muffler to the FZR & it did indeed sound amazing when nearing the 18,500 rpm redline ;-)
Isaac on the dynamometer with the Honda MC22 ; I understand didn't do all that well with his apprenticeship results . His technique with the pull wasn't very good either .
Many years ago I drove a CB400 Honda. No power under 5,000 rpms, but after you passed that mark it would REALLY take off, it was thrilling. It was also the best handling bike I'd ever ridden, with the lowest vibration. And at idle sounded like a sewing machine....
I love small motorcycles my 1st bike was a Yamaha 400 Maxim 2 cyl.. I've had a bunch of big 750cc to 1100, but I've loved smaller ones my H1 500 3 cylinder. Was a blast smoking, loud , chrome, metallic paint!!! So far the best I rode was a Ducati 620 monster perfect for the Italian back rodes.. I rented one for 2 weeks on vacation. I may downsize from my M900 to a 620 or 750 . Great video!!!
Last autumn I bought GSF 400 Bandit. Its pretty rare here in Finland because this model was never imported here. Yeah, its small and lazy compared to big bikes, but still interesting and enjoyable. I´m going to start my season with this bike =)
Thanks so much for this video VisioRacer, this helps me a lot because I'll soon get my European A2 licence, so I'm looking at a sub 47HP bike with 0.2KW/kg. Some of these fit the bill! :-O
I had a Honda CBR250R 1987 Hurricane, revved it to 18,000 rpm everyday for 3 years, no oil change, no filter change. Got it over 180kph a few time (over 112mph) laying flat to the tank. Bought it in Auckland New Zealand for $1300 had to barter hard down from $1500 because I was a broke teenager and the dude selling it was leaving the country luck me! My friend had a 1989 CBR250R Hurricane and another mate had a GSXR-400RR Slingshot, his brother had a VFR400R NC24 all 4 cylinders. Was like a F-1 race on the way to high school in the mornings that was my normal, we all thought this was life forever young and invincible, and they were awesome days! When I met my girlfriend 20 years ago I use to take her for rides on it and I can just imagine her parents shock hearing the screaming 18,000rpm approaching their house. Luckily these bikes still are available here!!!
Lucky enough to own one of these bikes myself. 1990 cb1 1 on few in the u.s still in original mint condition. These bikes are all truly landmarks of there time.
I agree, I used to own a 93 NC30, simply a gorgeous bike with the twin head lamp and the single sided swing arm, just like the real deal, the mighty RC30
Great bike I rode one back in the 90's. My friend had a GSXR400RR and I had the CBR250R was a great time, two of my friends had VFR's awesome handling machines, Luckily New Zealand imported all those Japanese market racers
Really like this channel these lists are memorable and entertaining. Also by the way It would be really cool if you listed the motorcycles engines' *COMPRESSION RATIO* along with the other specs you list for each bike.
It would be great if they had a series running 400 cc 4 cylinders. Heck where I live in Asia, they even race the little 125's with the "Step Through" frame. I'ts fairly exciting. Id love to a 4 cylinder 400, the light weight allows you to flick it thru corners, the high RPM's are thrilling, and the high power to weight ratio makes them giant killers.
The Honda CB350F is a four-cylinder, four-stroke, 347 cc motorcycle based on the larger versions of the day. The motorcycle was manufactured in Japan from 1972 to 1974.
Considering this goes with my odd enjoyment of high RPM engines with 4 or more cylinders and small displacement, I do enjoy this list of 10 motorcycles. 250cc and 45 horses. I do miss those small displacement high RPM engines.
I let go of a cbr250rr once. I have a gixxer, street triple and a cb250rr, dont think i'll ever let it go! (again) You always make great content! Love seeing your channel grow
After watching this video, finally sold my harleys, two cylinder and single cylinder bikes and picked up a clean and rare hornet 250 and a fz600. Man I would never trade in these bikes ever
Yes. The 250s nowadays is a bit gutless. The ZXR-250 sound is just awesome. My neighbours hate though..for the same reason...the sound..or rather the noise.
Most of the bikes on this list are larger bikes that have been handicapped. It was disappointing to see that the Honda VF400F and VF500F did not make the cut. The "mini-ceptor" was built from the ground up for the 400cc market. The VF500F took the bikes performance to the stratosphere, being bored out for the NA market. I hope you can feature it somewhere in the future. It is a fairly rare bike, so if you need help finding footage I can share some of my bike with you. 500cc V4, 86hp, 12500rpm, ~400lbs
The most advanced and refined engineering of any 400cc/sub capacity as well as being the most beautiful looking of the lot and having the best and throatiest sound with its gear driven cams etc. and yet you fail to mention it altogether. Honda's VFR-400...
I imported an older MC19 in, it is truly awesome. Check kijiji.ca and look for them. Bought it for $3000 CAN, or about $2500 US at the time. Don't know what the guy was thinking. I have put maybe 10,000 km on it so far, no breakdowns, except for being stranded due to kinked fuel line. EDIT: Got stranded again due to a failed fuel pump
I LOVE the smaller bikes! I've had a YSR-50, RD-400 Daytona, 440-LTD , VFR-250, RD-250 and a F7 175! I've owned a couple liter bikes, 750's and a 600 or two but nothing compares to the smaller bikes. Sure I might not be able to do 200mph but I sure as hell can beat any liter bike on a twisty road! Plus they have cheaper parts and are easier to work on!!
I used to own a GSXR400-RR back in the day when 400cc sportsbikes were miniaturized versions of their racy 750cc originals. Nowadays 400cc bikes are just overgrown 250cc 'half-engined' parallel twins with the same 2-pot hollow sound. Sad.
Instead of crazy super bikes made for the track. Manufactures should make a 400cc super bike. Even a 600cc you can't use all that power on public roads.
Don't forget the FZR400. Redline 14,000 and it made 25 plus ft-lbs at 9,500 and 20 at 14,000. Racetrack was 10k to 14k only and was a screaming good time. US import '89-'90 410 to 420 pounds full of gas, 4.5 gallons! CA model had EXUP, added 5 lbs. 1990 had a frame brace and deltabox swingarm, all added 5 lbs. So, the CA EXUP in '90 weighed 420 lbs. The fzr600 engine is a direct bolt in, as is the radiator and front end with bigger brakes. Maybe adds 20 pounds. The YZF600 engine, front end and radiator can be made to fit, and add 25 pounds. I've run all that in the 1989 model with the tiny 428 chain, and after 50k miles there are no problems. Tells you just how awesome the FZR400 is.
how many "parts / hp" .... would be entertaining to know on these small displacement, multi-cylinder 4 stroke engines ..... so many moving parts in a tiny engine, cranking super RPMs, amazing!
These bikes are created to use the top specs you can have on a First category of Bike licence you are allowed to have before 18 in Japan. They were not made to be light for racing. 400 and 35KW was the limit. But they tricked the system and made it faster by making 250cc 4 banger that gad faster High revving engine allowing for more speed than a neutered 400cc to comply with power limit. So they made max power at very high RPM and were lighter so they could achieve more speed respecting Licence limitations.
Had a Aussie delivered CBR250RR as my first bike. 7000km on it when I bought it. You never forget that scream. Doubt any of my neighbors ever did either.

Engineering at its finest.
I wish they still made 250cc 4 cylinders bikes...
I have old phazer 250
I have a yamaha 1989 tdr250, it has a wonderful 2 stroke engine
Or even 3 cylinder engines that are 400cc or less.

Lifted_Above I have a 84' GSX400F, 4 cylinder and sounds really good.
I'm sure it does!
The sound of that zx-r 250 is like a f1 car
Yes, it does sound like a F1 car. I own one before. Rode it so hard the I blown the engine. Sounds awesome. My first "superbike".
CBX sounds better than F1
Having owned and worked on a majority of these bikes here in nz.
I found The best ones were the Honda's with the gear driven camshafts.
Sounds cool and no pesky rattling timing chains as i found with the gsxr 250 and zxr 250 400.

Hey, did you have any reliability issues with some ?

Crézy Chameau agreed .hp is so high on new bikes they have to nuder them with electronic limiting rider aides. What's the point
Kawasaki ZX-R 250 is a nice bike !!!
This is the best motorcicle compilation i ever see on this channel !!
Honda hornet is very popular on Brazil, but here is 600cc,i had no idea she existed in 250cc !!!
E ae BR.
A Hornetinha 250cc infelizmente foi feita somente para o mercado japonês.
Romulo Pedroso Salve brother, cara me apaixonei pela hornet 250cc,teria facilmente uma !!
Leo 007 in india, honda has launched a 160cc version of hornet.
Neffex for life Its real?Hornet 160cc ?? Wow !!!!
160cc with 4 cylinders ???
Something about small cylinders. Love that zx2r
It's sounds awesome but does the bike satisfies aerodynamics ??

All these bikes are the rarest!! 😍😍
I got a 2003 Hornet 250, it is so nice and always gets the attention of moped squids in this country all the time.
The 1987 gsxr 250 was a inline 4 and was the best 250 ever made by gsxr. Rev so high they sound like formula cars.
Isaac on the dynamometer with the Honda MC22 ; I understand didn't do all that well with his apprenticeship results . His technique with the pull wasn't very good either .
By far my Favoutrite channel on the Website!
You do alot of work for you videos man, dont think it goes un noticed! Keep it up my Friend!
i have a CBR250RR mc22 and i can confirm that the sound it makes is even more awesome in person!

You betcha! I had CBR400RR and before that a VFR400
I just recently got interested in high-rpm motorcycles, and now you got this video up. Nice!

Thanks for Making this Video🔥🐲

Do one on the Yamaha RD. Do yourself a favour and get on one you ll love it

Great video!!!
3:20 nice shifting hahaha
Last autumn I bought GSF 400 Bandit. Its pretty rare here in Finland because this model was never imported here. Yeah, its small and lazy compared to big bikes, but still interesting and enjoyable. I´m going to start my season with this bike =)
The smallest 4 Cylinder I personally owned was a 1973 Honda CB500 Four and it had a fantastic sound
Can i buy it for you?
I like your channel,, much pass information about performance bikes and cars,, thumbs up for your simple yet informative self documentary
How does this channel have only 400k subs?
He actually makes THE BEST "top xxx" videos, every time.
Awesome video mate!
SUBSCRIBED👍
Great video love hearing all the older bikes rev out like a f1 engine
I had an FZR250RR (3ln3) back in the day with staintune pipe.. Man... Sounded like an F1 car on full tune. I love the 250 4 cylinder breed.
4 cylinder bikes are defo the best sound in the world!!
That Hornet sounds 😍😍
Haha Kawasaki is back with the 4 cylinder ZX-25R! :D
Those 250cc bikes sounds really funky tho :3
This channel is like heaven for petrol heads, keep it going!
I miss revving the nuts of a low capacity sports bike. 125 and 250 twostrokes where just so much fun. I even had a Suzuki 400 Bandit for a while.
Thanks so much for this video VisioRacer, this helps me a lot because I'll soon get my European A2 licence, so I'm looking at a sub 47HP bike with 0.2KW/kg. Some of these fit the bill! :-O
I had a Honda CBR250R 1987 Hurricane, revved it to 18,000 rpm everyday

I had a Suzuki Bandit 400 in Madrid at the 90s and was great
My cousin had waaaayy back in 75 a 1973 Honda CB350F, thing revved to the moon compared to the big bikes of the day. Sweet sounding little 4 cylinder.
Some stunning examples here, I just love these bikes!!
Honda VFR 400 R is another great small engine motorcycle (for me is the greatest in 400cc class)

Kawasaki ZR250 (Balius)19000 redline. It was my first bike and from memory the rev limiter kicked in at around 20000. Loved it

Sad.

srilankn most popular bick honda hornet 250 ❤️🇱🇰🇱🇰🇱🇰🇱🇰🇱🇰🇱🇰🇱🇰
Damn... That CBR250RR's sound !
When you see a visioracer video come up and it features a bike you own 😎
9:03 Hampton Downs circuit (NZ)?
It is.
I really love your videos keep it up and I have a request, can you make a video of the most afforded 4 cyclinder motorcycles?? Thanks
i love the rear stop lights. twin rings. So 80"
One of the best vids youve posted brother , though i know most of the stuff you allways get some more good info from visio racer :-)
Instead of crazy super bikes made for the track. Manufactures should make a 400cc super bike. Even a 600cc you can't use all that power on public roads.
ktm rc 390 ?
Fred Bercian all new new Kawasaki ZX-25R, in-line 4 super sport.
Don't forget the FZR400. Redline 14,000 and it made 25 plus ft-lbs at 9,500 and 20 at 14,000. Racetrack was 10k to 14k only and was a screaming good time.
US import '89-'90
410 to 420 pounds full of gas, 4.5 gallons!
Geez.
I miss my first bike.
'75 cb550, orange flake paint.
So.
Much
Fun.
Goooood. I love old monster
Kawasaki ZX2r is 20,000rpm. baller
how many "parts / hp" .... would be entertaining to know on these small displacement, multi-cylinder 4 stroke engines ..... so many moving parts in a tiny engine, cranking super RPMs, amazing!
So they made max power at very high RPM and were lighter so they could achieve more speed respecting Licence limitations.
holly shit that cb 250f hornet sounds awesome !
that 250 bandits paint job was top kek
tbh I like small high revving engines over larger low revving ones... Especially 8 and 10 cylinder ones. Those things sound badass revved past 10k...
The new zx25r just got launched and I am in a Deja Vu right now
In the UK and I have one of those rare bandit 250vs's, such a wonderful bike
Dammmm. I'm soooo excited about the new Zx25. It's gonna be awesome!
Such a sweet sound from a small bike. Hope the riding position isn't to harsh as I am looking at it for commuting.
2:10 check out the Kawasaki clutch rattle!
Came here for the bikes but that Acura RSX @ 3:20 caught my eye
MOST OF THEM ARE JAPANESE MOTORCYCLES.
Would this be a good first bike? Or should I go straight fora 650? I really want ant a 650. Is that too powerful for a first bike?
you rock dude great vid !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
