For not all of my Medakas are inside (Garage/house). I have been warned that the Raccoons will return so my plan is to keep the Medakas out of sight. I will try with a small batch outdoors again next Spring. This may sound naive but my hope is for the Raccoon family to move on by then. Hoping that someone with more experience can guide me if this is an ok plan or a poor plan.
@@medakametal I was wondering if maybe you could come up with some contraption to go outside to keep the Medaka safe from any future raccoon invasions. ?
@@marcuswhitmore6622 I'll need to experiment in Spring. I can secure (Lock) the current white metal grate but I am sure that the Raccoons can stick their hands and reach into the tub. (unless the Medakas are all the way at the bottom)
Its all going to depend on how fast they get to size. (2/3 inch). The fry are going to need 68F (20c) to grow at a normal rate. The day light is getting shorter as well. The small ones will and can make it through the winter but they many not reach their full potential in size. If you want to introduce the fry outdoors for winter try keeping them in a heated (80F / 27C) aquarium indoors and get them to size by November. The eggs outdoors will eventually hatch but the fry are going to struggle to grow.
If I'm going on vacation for 11 days should I have someone come over and feed my 22 gallon patio pond? Night time temps will for sure fall below 50f but possibly 60+ in some days. The pond is heavily planted so there's for sure a lot of smaller organisms. I've just had them on a daily feeding schedule so far.
What is the plan for the outside to enable you to return your Medaka back outside and for them to remain safe?

Can two month olds endure winter? I noticed new fry too. I got maybe two months till lows of 50. Fry are indoors. All eggs outside are on their own.

Hi. Question. Strain? How many in the 22 gallon? Age and size of the Medaka?
I have an infestation of snails…. Have you ever had to deal with something similar?
I keep the Blue, Pink, Red, White. The traditional Brown RamsHorns go into my Birds of Paradise Pot.
@LesDL69 find a local.person with a puffer fish, I'm sure they want to get it off your hands.
