"Hey! You're Chocolate Chip Charlie!"
"Well I sure as hell ain't the Kentucky Colonel!"
"Wait, I thought we lost in Vietnam?"
"We lost that war at home, son."
Some great lines in this film.
People call me Moe because everytime people give me money I want mo! 💯
They weren't even allowed to cross a certain lattitude to pursue the communists. And the free election had the communist win, thus the war to over throw their own elected official... Ya they seemed pretty dead set in a pointless war and made no secret about the rules of engagement that made winning absolutely impossible.
Sometimes catchphrases could be rememberable since Scarface like..,
“I buried those cockroaches.”
“So long, Mel, have a good trip.”
“Say hello to my little friend.”
Writers made wonderful words they ever typed in the 80s.
My favourite horror commentator meets my favourite ever film . I can't believe I've followed you for over 2 years and I've missed this . RIP Larry .
It would have been hilarious if they actually sold the Stuff just before the movie came out.
Mmmmm! It does look really tasty, even knowing what it does in the movie lol. XP
That would have been a fantastic idea, I'm guessing the studio heads in all their wisdom would think it was a terrible idea for one reason or another.
Omg tht would be intense af
right? like with what they did before willy wonka and the chocolate factory was released when they sold actual wonka bars to promote it
That would of been a terrible idea.
I always imagined the stuff to have a very smooth, custard flavor. And maybe the organism in it has a enzyme that can trick your brain into thinking your eating a favorite food. Y'know, it's not actually the flavor but dopamine that's hitting your pleasure sensors. So to every person it tastes unlike any sort of food, because it's artificially stimulating your brain into eating as much as possible so it can take a hold fast. Then, when you go to sleep, the stuff germinates in your cells, eating up flesh and nerves until you're hollow shell. Most of the brain matter responsible for behavior, personality, quirks it still there, but the person's primary gray matter is dissolved so the stuff overtakes motor functions - so maybe the person is still aware, but they can't control their body. The Stuff is in control.
When I was little, my mom would take me to the video rental store and I’d always go straight for the horror movie section. I remember picking this out one day and it didn’t disappoint. Thanks for the dose of nostalgia!
Your "Exploring" series plays out like small documentaries. Keep up the good work man love it.
It looks like it would make a great double feature with Killer Klownz
STREET TRASH would be even better! www.imdb.com/title/tt0094057/
tio borracho oh god...that movie fucking scarred me
...From Other Space! Yeah! another classic!
Haha! That'd be great!
Here's a glorious day-glo melt death from *Street Trash* ruclips.net/video/3qP3Tx19w7c/видео.html Lol - it's SO 1986! XD
The Stuff vs. The Blob
I love this movie... in the mid 90's it was relentlessly re-runned on many TV stations in post war Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia, I guess the rights for broadcast were cheap... Thank you for covering the movie in GBF, and sharing the awesome details about it
Despite being a horror comedy, I first watched this when I was very very young and it actually gave me nightmares for years. watched it a few years later and loved the satire from it, the schlocky effects and the wonderfully over the top performance from Moriarty. I was watching the commentary on the hot fuzz dvd a good few years back and Simon Pegg said he would love to do a sequel to a bad movie as opposed to a remake...when he said that, I instantly thought of a sequel to the stuff. now that would be great today.
"They call me Mo because I always want mo!"
DaveFu 😃
they call you “Mo” because your last name is Lester. haha. just kidding
I can't tell if this is a reference to the movie.....or a line from Tom Segura's "Completely Normal" special.
This is one of my wife & I's favourite horror comedies from the 80s. It's a lot of fun. Good vid. :)
You are really insightful, the hurricane/viral marketing comments were on point about this gem..I liked it more than The Blob when I was younger
God I remember the scene where the dog was force feeding it's owner with the stuff. For a horror/comedy it had an incredibly disturbing with a dog no less.
Also the scene where the stuff moves up the wall, I remember that was part of your old intro.
Right!? I saw it as a kid and I hardly remembered any comedy in it.
I fucking love this movie, I watch it every Halloween.
Unchained With The Captain ...I watch it every New Year's Eve along with Vamp.
Sweet! I have enough horror movies built up I can watch 2 to 3 movies a day and not get bored the whole month of October.
Now a re-appraisal is necessary !! I realize more now just how clever this movie was ! and agree with our narrator if it were remade it would probably be ALL CGI and then SHIIIITE !! NOW THAT'S THE STUFF THERE BOYO !!!
If there is a murder mystery based on this, we're keeping this precious emblem of Apex Horror for ourselves.
This is great. Every so often I do a Larry Cohen marathon. Just finished another one:
It's Alive 3
Q-The Winged Serpent
God Told Me To
Bone
Return to 'Salem's Lot
The Stuff
Yes! I was hoping you'd do an exploration of this one. I saw part of it when I was six, but got freaked out about it and never finished it, nor did I get a second chance to see it again. Thank you for giving it a review.
this is my favorite series from this channel. keep up the good work Mr. Goodbadflicks
Awesome video about a movie with one of the best tag lines ever. I love the anecdote about the run-in with the teamsters, that is pure gold. Keep up the great work. Also, Clara Pellar’s cameo made me think of a favorite MST3K riff, with the old lady in the What About Juvenile Delinquency short admonishing some high school ruffians, “you boys haven’t been moving the stuff very well.”
Been waiting on this one since the day I first discovered your channel! The Stuff is pretty much the definition of a good bad flick.
Thank you for reviewing this movie! I haven't seen it in ages, and it brought back fond memories of family movie nights. You are very knowledgeable about movies, and I enjoy your use of jokes, sarcasm, and references, especially the Morbid Angel "God of Emptiness" one in your Mortal Kombat video. Keep 'em coming!
It was early 1985 when I first became aware of The Stuff. I was in Kindergarten. My older brother was reading the Chicago Tribune when he came across a full page ad for The Stuff. Without warning, he stuck it in my face. My screams turned into crying turned into vomiting.
Mom was pissed, I was traumatized, brother was laughing his ass off.
I finally built up the courage to watch The Stuff in 2015. It was well worth the wait.
I'm pretty sure I can still vomit on command.
Thank you for finally doing this movie! I love all that you do. Keep up the good work.
Ooof, the kevin spacey fact sounds a bit strange now that everyone hates him.
I still enjoy his acting.
funny, i dont see roman polanski or victor salva getting the same hate as kevin spacey
I still love Kevin Spacey. Fuck Y'all.
@@dontgopostalonme6886 Imagine not understanding the difference between Polanski and Spacey.
@Lost Aquarian Right?! Cause the 9 people that will see this thread are definitely the ones rushing to judgment on this situation.
I'm fascinated to hear that it got positive reviews since my mom and I went in, more or less, blind and were so baffled by the film by the end we just kept looking at each other like "is this really happening?"
The only reason we ended up watching it was because of it's cameo in Stranger Things season 3 that intrigued my mom so much that we became determined to watch it together. We just didn't know how goofy it was going to be though.
Another VHS gem ! I have the one version of the cover where it's pouring out of a fridge. So great
Great video! I loved all the behind-the-scenes trivia!
Love this movie. I seen it as a kid. And for the longest time wouldn't eat marshmallow fluff.
What's marshmallow fluff?
It's a marshmallow version of sandwich spread
only AMERICA could come up with this !!
NOBODY wants to eat that crap
It's like he said a marshmallow spread. As a kid I would eat peanut butter and fluff sandwiches. That's all it was good for. Google image it. :)
This is exactly as amazing as I was hoping it would be! Great work!
I was a child when this released...I had forgotten about it and in my teen years I would remember parts of it in my mind but couldn't place the name of the movie...But I always remember the part where the guy opens his mouth and screams (If I remember it correctly) with stuff in his mouth...It terrified me as a kid.
I went back and watched a bit of it a few years back...Didn't really hold my attention but I do really like the whole premise of the movie.
Nostalgia...gotta love it.
I just watched The Stuff for the 1st time yesterday. It was a great flick. Thanks to GoodBadFlicks I found out about this awesome classic. Now I'm watching Prince of Darkness by John Carpenter. all thanks to this awesome channel. I've already watched the entire Exploring Series. Keep up the awesome work dude. Looking forward to more awesome videos and finding some new flicks as well.
Love the Exploring videos. Even if I've never seen it, even if I've never heard of it, I thoroughly enjoy them!
You have a signed Stuff container? That is freaking awesome!
4:50 - What a hilarious anecdote - I wish they got that on film!!!
“He had lunches with a young Kevin spacey”
Oof that didn’t age well.
I wouldn't mind a remake of this one, if done right. In today's cultural climate, it's relevant more than ever...
Only with practical effects!!!! That's what made it work so well... You could imagine it really being there!
I would not be against some CGI, Especially when teh Stuff is eating people - Could make that more horrific... But The Stuff itself works best as a Prop...
CGI is not all bad. The FX in The Stuff are pretty dated; bad matte lines, cheap miniatures, okay prosthetics... It's good, it's fun, but unlike Ghostbusters or Robocop, it has room for improvement.
New Rule Media totally agree... With what we can do today, practical effects would be awesome... And a little cgi
Capital idea !!! anyone else notice and it wasn't mentioned years later MORIARTY and Sorvino would co-star on LAW & order !!
Why not just re-release it? Retro is a big fad today, it would work pretty well.
Good to see you back with another obscure 80's flick exploration, these really are the best :-) Good movie as well, Michael Moriarty is awesome.
Dude ur one of my all time favorite your RUclipsrs that shares the same love if obscure and weird movies I do keep up the good work man.
I find myself watching videos about things I would never actually watch just because I like the presentation so much. Thanks!
Trying to convince you that ice cream is scary! Best ending line and shot ever!🤣👍
Thanks for posting this! I've never even heard of this, even though I rented almost every horror movies from the local video store till the early '90s! Looks like a fun movie! Gotta love Abe Vigoda & the "Where's the Beef" lady, haha! Thumbs up!
10:10 My favorite line in the film LOL!
Wonderful job on talking a very underrated 80's horror/comedy I really wish Shout Factory would get a hold of this film?
These 'Exploring...' videos are fantastic! Great work, you definitely have a new subscriber.
Thanks for finally doing this! I thought that you had done a normal GBF for it some time ago but had to delete it before I knew about your channel, hahah.
its a crime you dont have more subscribers. underrated youtuber. keep up the amazing work.
I enjoy your 'Exploring' series cause it convinces me to see these hidden gem movies that I would've passed on. Going to track down a copy of this one, pronto!
This is one of those movies I watched solely because of how its poster kept catching my eye while scrolling through Netflix. I loved the way everyone was shown loving The Stuff even though it was always looking anything but edible. The way the guy just tastes this stuff bubbling up from the ground without hesitation really set the tone. It was as if the audience had on some They Live glasses and could see the reality of The Stuff while everyone in the movie was seeing something that actually looked appetizing.
I think frozen yogurt is more terrifying than ice cream
jdtroup198683 Yeah. It's too delicious to be healthy
Perez Balthazar ever heard the saying? Too good to be true?
*Yoghurt
Yes, it's a living organism much like the stuff.
Can't get enough of The Stuff!
Just wanted to say that you have a lovely voice, great delivery, and do excellent research.
Thank you so much!
Saw your Exploring "The Blob" and liked it. Made me think of this one, and of course you had an exploration! Looking forward to it :)
Thank you!
Bet spacey was just there looking for "young actors"
Too soon.
So was your mother
Jani Akujärvi Agreed. Can’t he be an amazing actor, and an elite predator at the same time?
(The answer is yes btw, as that’s literally what he is, and maybe then some.)
@@nikolademitri731 If Kevin Peter Hall could do it then Spacey can do it.
Oh different type of predator...
@@kaylawuvscookies LMFAO!
Shit yes!! Just what I needed to get thru Monday!!
Thanks for posting consistently awesome content!
RIP Larry Cohen
I cuss, you cuss, we all cuss for asparagus! - Gary Larson.
Andrew Robertson
Did the creator of "The Far Side" actually say that?
Good stuff keep them coming!!
I didn't think many people knew about this film. I'm glad to be a child of the 80s. The stuff, it's alive, they live, etc...brings back many childhood memories.
Would you ever do an exploring of The Good, the Bad, the Weird? I recently rewatched it and it is still a lot of fun.
Great video, thanks for your work on this.
Another awesome exploring vid!
"I the 80's consumerism was running rampant"
Don't you just love when people talk about 80's consumerism as if there isn't rampant consumerism today? Usually from their latest i-phone or pad.
Yes but it was new at the time. Now its the norm.
So glad you did this. I love this movie.
Got to see Cohen's cut a few months back. Well worth it!
I remember watching this one as a kid and loved it!
Awesome that Moriarty hated the wig. Owning that baldness is so healthy and confident.
YES! I was so happy to see this pop up. I love this movie.
Awesome movie! Also, I'm subscribing just for the Psychostick music!
Love this movie!
I know you get suggestions up the wazoo, but have you ever considered spotlighting To Live And Die In L.A. It is a very unique film in that, well... the lead character's fate and, even though it failed to really make a mark, I think it deserves to be rediscovered for such a unique and risky plot device.
🪦 to Paul Sorvino for making good movies from his greatest performances throughout the years, you shall be missed but not forgotten. 😢
just re rented this movie. such a classic 80s movie. looked like everyone had fun making it. id take 10 of "The Stuff" over 1 of "The Bye Bye Man"
THANK YOU BROTHER 😆 One of my favorites from childhood 😃
In my mind, this is an ElseWorlds/alternate universe movieline where the Ghostbusters were put down and actually stayed down after tha 1st movie so they weren't around to combat the exploded Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man which is "The Stuff" everyone is consuming and is consuming everyone|
Keir Tanaka Hmmm...Cool idea. :)
Keir Tanaka damn...that actually makes a lot of sense
Keir Tanaka Holy shit...
Abe vogoda has been old for decades.
Just like Mum Ra
He was born at the age of 45.
This caused me to see the movie, and I really enjoyed it!
This was easily my favorite movie about an alien desert.
One of my most favorite movies! So underrated! Peace.
Yet another movie I have thought of watching, but never get around to. Thanks for reminding me.
Ah, the shower man’s greatest source of inspiration!
I always loved the "Do you know why they call me Mo?" quote. In the Castilian Spanish dub they did an excellent adaptation turning this into a joke about that famous line from Oliver Twist.
Great video!
Think you could either do a review or an Exploring video for the film "Society"?
He actually did a review of society, but it was lost after the down fall of the video hosting site Blip tv along with a number of other episodes sadly, although he has said he's been trying to remake the lost episodes. By the way I like that movie too !
They say that rampant consumerism will be the end of us all... They could be right
Really enjoyed this movie growing up. Thanks for posting.
I want to watch the 2 greatest horror comedies of the 80's such as The Stuff and even Return of the Killer Tomatoes. These 2 movies are awesome. Really awesome.
man i love this flick. great video.
9:28 strangely enough, I feel like a remake could work, as long as it’s not some big budget studio tampered production. It could work if put in the right hands
I remember seeing a clip of this movie in your old intro and looking for the review like crazy.
Saw this movie at the Mayfair Theater's 'saturday night movie' (an ottawa establishment for film junkies). Couldn't get over how fun it was.
A true classic!!!
First time I ever saw this movie I was around 6 or 7 years old. It was so vivid and creepy that I remembered it for many years until seeing it again on DVD as an adult. Not as creepy but definitely funnier than I remember as a kid. Definitely a underrated gem of a horror film.
Believe it or not, after watching this video I went strait to Amazon and ordered a DVD copy of "The Stuff". Thanks for the recommendation!
I think this movie even got a large reference in an early 90s videogame , one of the plotlines for The Adventures of Willy Beamish concerned a product that everyone was addicted to that was harmful, Tootsweet , i'm convinced that was inspired by The Stuff .
Also ,I always felt the product in The Stuff was inspired by the popularity of something that for some reason in the 80s really went hardcore mainstream , i remember everyone having it and eating it , that heavenly cavity producing product is called Fluff .
Great work, please explore It's Alive.
Great video as always. I definitely agree a remake of The Stuff wouldn't be a good thing.
I'm more worried about the inevitable Jaws remake. It will happen and it will be ass.
Great exploration Cecil. First time I watched this, Jaboody Dubs riffed/dubbed over it and I was in tears from laughing so much, check it out if you have time. Awesome that you got one of the containers. One of my fav scenes was when the guy was calling 911 while his dog was mauling him alive.
This movie is unique in its own way. I still rewatch it
I wasted $10 for a horror comedy which I was misleaded for a horror movie.
#%^* you new world pictures!
At least it was good
When I heard that the third season of Stranger Things would take place in 1985 and involve an ice cream shop, I immediately thought of this movie, then was a little disappointed that no killer ice cream was featured. However, it's still one of the movies listed on a marquee at some point, and people did turn to goo after eating stuff they shouldn't have.
This was always at the 7-11 when I was a kid but I was too scared to watch it. Caught it online years later. Just hilarious.
the teamster story is goddamn hilarious i couldnt stop laughing
i cold have sworn you already did this one a LONG way back. :-/ anyways great upload!!!
It's interesting how the premise of this movie still holds up, not just for the consumerism angle but the fact that the natural world indeed has a fungus that can alter its host's brain and behavior. Add to that the findings of how potentially dangerous sugar can be, not to mention its addictive quality. RIP Larry Cohen.
So glad you didn’t have to show the screenshot we’re the stuff jumps out of Charlie’s mouth when the camera was facing forward at him while the white goo is jumping that scared and made me throw up
