All the big British bands in the 60s were full of people who walked around with muddy waters, little Walter, John Lee Hooker etc albums when they were younger. Read a book on the Rolling Stones and their first or second time they were in the states, a white journalist asked Keith Richards where they got their inspiration from. Keith replied “the people you stick at the back of the bus, the guys you won’t allow in your restaurants, they have better music, they tell better stories”

Thanks for pulling the Led out for us again. This is one of the best blues songs ever. It was a masterful remake by Zep from an old 1920’s country folk song by Joe McCoy and the Memphis Mini. Seriously, it was about the disaster that occurred from the great Mississippi floods in the early 1920’s. Thousands lost their homes and had to either rebuild or relocate. Led slowed the beat down and mixed it with Rock and Bonham’s heavy drum beat. Plant played the harmonica and Jimmy Page played the smokin’ hot slide guitar. As long as I live I'll never forget the feeling when they announced that John Bonham had passed away. I was 15 and was going to move heaven and earth to see Led Zeppelin when they toured America that year, tickets had already been sold for some of the shows. It was like getting kicked in the stomach, knowing he was gone and the end of an era had arrived, and I never got a chance to board that train to see them live and in person. I still feel the sting to this day and I always will. Thank goodness we still have what they gave us, what a drummer, what a band. We'll never see the likes of them again ever. The four horsemen.
I was riding down skelly rd rolling a doobie when the news came on the radio. Took a while for it to sink in. Everybody knew Zep was over. No replacing bonzo.....
@@c.e.anderson558 Yeah I agree, them breaking up was painful but it was the right thing to do. That's why the Celebration Day show they did in 2007 was so great, Jason Bonham handled his dads drums and did a fine job of it. It was a great way to say goodbye so many years on, it was great for them to honor the band and John's legacy, and it was a great show for guys in their sixties if you haven't seen it.
"When the Levee Breaks" is a country blues song written and first recorded by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie in 1929. The lyrics reflect experiences during the upheaval caused by the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927. I heard this version 40 years ago. Im glad you gotten around to it now. Pass it down, please.

Robert Plant is the harmonica. Led Zeppelin walks you into a song or they hit you in the face with it, or they sneak up on you. They are master craftsmen.
John Storton it’s some great harmonica playing, but i agree with you! Because the harmonica is amplified you can morph the sound but the oldschool blues harp players is where the stank happens
Danmark television 1969 live is from their very first tour in Scandinavia, they had met only about 5--6 months earlier! The song is How many more times, and the sound is incredible...50 years ago! “How many more times” 1968 in Denmark is ridiculous! Know one knew who they were yet then ... you see the audiences mind blown after the performance...
I second that Denmark shit. It's actually them performing on some Danish TV broadcast. It's a cool performance because Robert Plant is really loose and casual, but the band is extremely tight.

Great reaction as always man, for a Live Led Zep reaction I'm gonna recommend you do the "How Many More Times Danmarks Radio 1969". This is a performance 2 months after the release of their first album, they all sound like bats outta hell. In the best of ways.
For live zeppelin I'm going to suggest Rock & Roll from the concert film The Song Remains The Same. They open the show with it and instantly blow the roof off Madison Square Garden.
I highly recommend the live solo of Led Zeppelin's drummer, John Bonham-- "Moby Dick" the 15:13 minute video. He's considered perhaps the greatest rock drummer of all time. Watching him is like watching a man possessed. He is a legend lost too young.

It's my favorite song by my favorite band. More gems - Friends, No Quarter, Kashmir by Page and Plant live at Irvine Meadows w orchestra and Egyptian band. It's amazing
To capture the intensity of the drums, John Bonham put his drums in the bottom of a stairs and hung microphones down to capture. See their live album, "The song remains the same." now remember this - they don't play album rock. They take some songs and stretch them out to 15 to 26 minutes. It's a journey
This drum track has been sampled SO many times in hip hop, it's crazy. I'm sure someone else has commented this, but check it out. Literally hundreds of tracks have used Bonhams drumming from this song.
It's amazing how far music has gone off course that people don't instantly recognise a harmonica.
