    yeah yeah yeah, she's prolly still alive... then why do the "sad dog dad comes back to life again just further punish Vi for never giving up" anyway? Mel's turn was sick tho, and Jace and Viktor pulled out a heartfelt W in what was at the end of the day, a REALLY unengaging arc. This show is still a classic tho, just a lil undercooked and overstuffed at the end! On to Noxos! GET EARLY ACCESS

      Warwick didn't die either. The guy was made bullet proof- a grenade won't do a whole lot of damage. The fall might've done something though - he fell below ground level & they never reveal his body either.

      Well they couldn’t not do Warwick he’s pretty important in the game. In the game Vi is viewed as a traitor to Zaun as well for being a cop so I wonder how she’ll be viewed in the future here but yeah we moving on to Noxus. I think the overall role of Warwick was for Vi and Jinx to reconcile as sisters, and to be reminded that blood is thicker than water

      If she came back it would completely undercut the entire arc of the character and the emotion of Season 2 would be down the drain. It would be like if Harry Potter 8 came out and Snape came back from the dead.

    • @Omnipotentmonkey
      @Omnipotentmonkey 2 дня назад +3

      @@iceman10129 I mean. her arc was blatantly about realising some degree of self worth and value to her life, "It's never too late to make a new start" and that she had value beyond just pleasing the key people in her life to avoid abandonment after spending an entire season and a half trying to kill herself and the previous episode specifically doing it to benefit Vi...
      So... no, her surviving would be just fine for her ACTUAL arc. I don't know what arc you're specifically talking about "person who values herself very little wants to kill self, becomes person who kills self for benefit of others" isn't an arc. it's a flat line.
      her realising that she can "walk away" (Silco) and "build something new" is pretty explicitly her arc across Act 3 and why she steps away from the ledge in the first place. having her just commit suicide after runs counter to her arc. it doesn't complete it.

    • @xanadu6784
      @xanadu6784 2 дня назад +4

      Her surviving WAS her sacrifice.
      Jinx has wanted to die since she became Jinx. At every turn, she has tried to blow herself up, and laments, that she, "Can't seem to die".
      Isha.showed her that the death of someone like her is a tragedy. Ekko showed her that she can always build something new. And even though she has to leave, leap forward and.leave some things behind, she knows that Vi will be with her, even when they are worlds apart.
      She takes Vi's glove, the symbol of violence, because she has the strength to, "Break the cycle". And she makes the hard fought decision to NOT let herself die. Like the baptism, she falls but is reborn. She didn't die. She was reborn whole. For Jinx, that's harder then dying.
      ...yeah, I didn't like the ending at first, but now I love it. It's maybe the most earned happy ending I've ever seen.

    they should have been more apparent that Jinx left for Vi’s sake and Ekko knew and it was up to Ekko and Jinx to see if they wanted to reconnect down the line. Ekko could have easily read a letter with Jinx explaining that.
    also, (edit: the second to) last scene should have been Ekko and Sevika rebuilding Zaun with Mel’s last time at Piltover her collabing with them. that is the quickest fix for me.
    I don’t think Jinx wanted to die- she accepted that there was no way Vi and her could both live so she sacrificed herself with the understanding she would be getting rid of the last remnants of their family with Warwick which would give Vi a chance to move on.

      @@SeanTanktop Cait's look after getting Vi's answer was to see if she could tell her that she thought Jinx could be alive, if she could live a life that wasn't constantly chasing after her sister. • @Omnipotentmonkey
      @Omnipotentmonkey 2 дня назад +3

      @@SeanTanktop I think there's a lot of logistical answers to it on Jinx's end.
      for one, she's still not past the "Jinx" idea, she still to some degree thinks her proximity brings people pain and death, so I think that after this battle she was always going to leave the two cities, "Always with you sis, even if I'm worlds away!" has the feeling of a goodbye. Ekko specifically talks about "building something new" and that's what pulls her back from the ledge., the notion of not being a perceived weight in Vi's life, but actually forming new connections elsewhere like she did with Isha.
      the death fakery was just an opportunity.
      even if she wanted to stay, that's a problem, she still killed three councilors and like... 20-30 enforcers, she was slated to be executed without trial in the last episode, while they might show a bit of leeway after she kind of saved everyone, that'll only go so far, there's no peaceful, free existence for her left in this location,
      and the final piece, is Vi, in Jinx's eyes, Vi needs to be with Caitlyn to be happy, but, Caitlyn the authority figure, and Jinx the potential convict would always be a dicey proposition even if Jinx hadn't specifically killed Caitlyn's mother, as far as she can see it, there's no mutual existence here, something's got to give, and as she asserts "Vi will never give up on her" if she's on the run, Vi will protect her, if she's in prison, Vi will break her out, if she flees or is exiled, Vi will leave with her/chase her. and all of this would put her in opposition to Caitlyn. so Jinx needs to leave in a way where Vi has no conflict. no need to chase her or help her and to commit fully to Caitlyn.
      as for the flashback, Powder's asleep in the memory, it isn't hers, it's Vander's. the last scrap of whatever's left of him when Viktor's Borg shit wears off. I don't think it's a coincidence that we have this happy memory from his perspective and then Jinx somehow escapes his clutches.
      If Jinx is dead (which I 99% don't think she is) then I agree, it feels like misery porn in that angle, a suicidal sacrifice after walking away from suicide feels almost comedically cruel.
      and I'm not really a big fan of the fakeout in general, but I can see why they did it.
      the series definitely feels overloaded, but I 've got the feeling that was beyond their control, despite what the creators might say.
      Netflix were being very stingy with their dealing, and Season 2 was renewed at the same very low cost of 3m per episode going to Riot/Fortiche. this is why the series actually ate a pretty substantial loss in isolation (one that Riot were willing to bit the bullet on, but only up to a point) a sorely needed season 3 would have pushed that loss into ridiculous scale and was evidently a bridge too far, with any further series, renegotiation would be required, and given Arcane's success, future deals would be more lucrative.
      So I think they specifically aimed to end Jayce and Viktor's story, while giving Caitlyn, Vi and Jinx this kind of more open ending, one that can actually kind of serve as an ending if they never get the chance to continue their stories (which I believe they plan to do). albeit not a very good open ending on the scale of things. they got caught in a bad position and I think they made the best of it.

  • @litearllyjustwater
    @litearllyjustwater 2 дня назад +2

    37:36 The turning point was Jayce killing him in act 2. He was previously against sacrificing Vander for his (Viktor's) own sake. He accepted the finite limitations of his powers, and while in disagreement to an extent with Singed, the undercurrent was still there. Both believed in the evolution of humanity, superseding nature, yet differed on whether the "human" part was necessary or not to that evolution.
    Viktor gives his monologue about the failings of humanity (which also applied to him), and becomes convinced that the final state of human evolution does not require "humanity".
    Honestly the betrayal being the catalyst to Viktor's villain heel turn is rather appropriate, considering the repeated motif that those who are closest to us are those capable of inflicting the greatest harm; reflected in the series by the multiple siblings/sibling-like relationships that follow that pattern.

    I don't mind when a tragic character has a tragic ending, but it truly feels like so much was cut out of this season for time that there's a lot of disconnect between episodes. It's crazy how much even a short third season with just 3 episodes could have benefitted the conclusion of this story, and i say that as someone who enjoyed the season and liked everything that was there, i just felt that a lot of essential things were missing to make the story beats feel earned. Sometimes studios go a little too hard when they're "cutting out the fat" in a story, and in this case basically every subplot was lacking at one point or another throughout the season.

    I really enjoyed your discussion at the end. Personally I too was really disappointed at jinx having to sacrifice herself at the end, it just felt so unnecessary after all the back and forth but now looking back and knowing that she's alive took away a lot of the bad aftertaste i had. I originally expected her to die before the redemption arc where the family reunites so I'm just glad she lives and took silcos words to heart. Jinx took "silco"'s words about breaking the cycle and walking away to heart. The city and her couldn't heal if this kept going. There was too much killing and adversity and they both needed a fresh start, even if it breaks my heart that vi got hurt AGAIN. But hey she's got a cupcake to console her so maybe its not all bad.
    There are definitely things you missed, some which you could have cought, others are plainly not something you notice on your first watch, so if you rewatch it a few times you definitely pick up on some of the smaller details and hints to make the story a bit more round. But yeah i think everybody would have liked a few extra episodes to flesh out some of these massive developments more. All in all i still loved it and I'm just glad they didn't totally butcher the second season after delivering so amazingly on the first. That is absolutely not a given.
    To kinda go against what I just said about wanting more episodes, I do have to applaud that they didn't drag out this storyline more than they had to. It would have been easy to milk this for 5-10 seasons until everybody ist just sick of it, but they stuck to their plan and we get something 90% fresh in the spinoffs.

    y'all's critiques are spot on! season 2 lost a handful of key creatives from season 1 (namely pixar veteran and toy story 2 director ash brannon) who really polished the storytelling, and it shows. the team this season is much less efficient in relaying important information via dialogue, which you really feel take a hit in the characterization and pacing. someone ran the numbers and the amount of dialogue was cut clean in half from s1! it was still a fun ride, but for things to stick the landing out they really needed another handful of episodes to let the human element, what made arcane so engaging, breathe again.

    The big change that happens to Victor is he almost dies. The scene that's his turning point is when he comes to confront Jayce as a 'robot' and he doesn't decide to join with Victor. When the first 'robot' is killed, Victor says to Singed "Doctor, begin the operation.". Knowingly sacrificing Vander's humanity in order to prolong his own life and achieve his 'perfect evolution'. I think you guys nailed it with the description of Jinx's ending being "needlessly cruel." I don't necessarily have a problem with endings that are tragic or bittersweet, so long as they feel earned, and have some semblance of _catharsis_ or satisfaction baked in. For me, it reads as extra salt in the wound that the most Jinx can aspire to is self-exile (she survives, but isn't allowed to try to rebuild her life in the Lanes, or try again with Vi in their homeland). It just stings that there's no conception of an ending where the sisters are allowed to be explicitly together. And it will always be less satisfying to have a show have you read between its lines and imagine a happy ending later down the line than actually present you with one itself.

    This part of the show (with the sisters) is a mirror of the first episode, when Powder jumps from one building to the other (if you look up, the angle and position of Powder and Jinx match when she is looking at Vi with Warwick), its basically a point to say even though Powder is able to take "the jump" (move on), Vi isn't prepared because she can't let go. Jinx realizes Vi can't give up on her, and sadly this also makes Vi constantly take responsability over everything Jinx does, which is why she pretends to die and leaves at the end. Vi won't ever stop feeling responsible for her sister, her doing good or bad, and Jinx needs to figure herself out instead of doing things because she wants the approval of Vi, or Silco, or anyone. At least, from what I saw online and a few things the creators talked about, it seems to be what they meant with it (but hey, I could be wrong thou 😅)

Even though i still think most of peoples "proof" for her being alive is all small little very explainable otherwise details i think they'll bring her back just cause shes a very popular character. However and i really hope this ends up being the case if jinx truly is dead, powder from that other universe could come over through the machine in her lab and the crystals in that drawer. And with jinx out of the way powder could easily come inside her old body and i think they could do something with that. Cayuse all these details like a random flash of pink in a bomb already infused with pink shimmer and cait smiling at vi humming even though people think its the at the computer for some reason. It just makes no sense for her to be alive when its a much better story if they actually killed her off cause they've been setting up her wanting to die all season and instead of doing it for selfish reasons liker just dying she did it for family. Plus if she was alive not telling vi after they made up like that i just cant see it happening. So i think the show didnt suffer the fans theorizing on small unimportant details do. Please. Being stripped of her "mother's position" is nothing. So many police officers and people of power caused so much hard but got away with it by being "stripped of their position".
      If Caitlin actually wants penance, she should give herself up and go to prison.

      @@withxoutxlifeAnd I don't care if it isn't finished as long as it makes it seem that what is happening is wrong. That Caitlin, the council member, the enforcers, and even Vi should have suffered the consequences and pay the price. But it wasn't that. It was that as long as they say "sorry" everything is forgiven.

    I'm still saying it... this season's Act 1 could have been season 1 Act 4. And if you do that, then that would give this season 6 more episodes (the 3 that were for Act 1 + the hypothetical Act 4) to flesh out more of the story, give better pacing, Act 4 could have been 2 episodes for the battle for Piltover + the final episode as just an epilogue, no fights, just talk and closure.
    Still love the show but yeah, it needed more build up and better pacing for this season.

      i genuinely loved this finale it felt like such a perfect send off to a great story. All season she was trying to kill herself selfishly and then at the end she does it finally for the good reasons. Nobody can outgrow for their crimes after all and there is no good version of jinx (only powder) so its not like shed have a place in this society anyways.
      Then i went online saw all these theories on how shes still alive because people saw a bit of shimmer (the pink streak) and some light (the yellow streak) in a shimmer bomb lmao. (and even if it wasn't its still more plausible its the shimmer escaping her body after being torn apart then it is her somehow running away while freefalling into Warwicks mouth and a hexcore lmao) Also cait wasn't smiling cause of the pc she was smiling at vi humming downstairs. The ship could literally be anyones they brought up a good point it could even be ekkos there is no proof its hers cause the line about riding an airship one day was already completed by her turning her base into an airship and riding it to attack ambessa. It just makes absolutely no sense that shed be alive and 1. not tell vi after they finally made up there at the end, And two how she got out of the claws of a beast trying to eat her when she couldnt get out of it before. Idk people reach and its annoying the fuck outta me cause it was such a better finale before the fans went and ruined it by speculating about all this crap.

    I loved season 1, I honestly think past episode 5, season two completely fell apart, all because they wanted to do some grand apocalyptic event for the finale instead of something a little more grounded like the rest of the show. Was it fun? Sure. But my god some of the character assassination that goes on is crazy.
    Ambessa, a woman who throughout the entire show has been depicted as an incredibly experienced general who demands LOYALTY above all else - suddenly decides ‘Why yes Viktor, I know I just pointed out that your crazy magic powers can possess the bodies and control the wills of those you heal, but by all means, ‘enhance’ all my men! I’m sure this won’t backfire!’ 😂

      Given that the IP and the money are both coming from a game company whose products are action- and combat-oriented with a veneer of lore--the expansion of scope was inevitable. Every version of this story *that could actually get produced* is going to go big and loud at the end, because Riot was never going to drop $180 million on something that started tight and small and STAYED tight and small. It's League of Legends, not League of Relationships.
      The miracle is that so much else WASN'T bombastic.

    I enjoyed the season quite a lot but the "resolution" to the class struggle was laughable and rushed. "Oh hey look we have a common enemy, trust me", and that's enough. Meh.
    The childish and on the nose lyrics of the songs also made me laugh every time, like at the start of this ep.
    There is also a shocking amount of characters that have plenty of screen time but have almost no lines or reason to exist, that just took time from the characters we care about.
    Best part is that we got a resolution to the Jayce/Victor love story 😊

    The more I sit with the second season, the more I sour on it. The two primary tensions of the entire show were Topside vs Bottom & Sister vs Sister. We sweep the entire Piltover/Zaun class struggle under the rug in a matter of seconds in Episode 8 due to the "We Have To Unite To Fight A Common Enemy" trope, and it simply isn't enough to show Sevika on the Piltie Council.
    She's gonna constantly be outvoted and spoken over, and buried in bureaucracy, and it still doesn't even the divide between the two nation-states. And whereas Jinx is concerned, yes, yes, I know they _suggest_ she survives and "breaks the cycle" by walking away from it all, and yes, yes, "I'll always be with you, even if we're worlds apart," but it just doesn't sit right with me that we're denied the catharsis of seeing any meaningful *onscreen* reconciliation. Jinx is condemned to have, at most, a "happy" ending offscreen, while Vi ostensibly spends the majority of her days topside with Cait. Ekko in particular is paid in crumbs for being The Boy Savior, and has next to nothing to show for his efforts, which just makes me sad for the guy. Overall, I dunno, while there are definitely emotional moments sprinkled throughout the season, I feel like it hurtled towards the finish line, putting plot before story. It makes it so I don't _feel_ the impact of what should be well-earned character moments. I was surprised at how little I felt as the credits rolled. Obviously, the animation is top notch, but I just can't abide the claims of peak storytelling that seem otherwise unanimous. I think it was rushed, sloppy, and less focused than I'd like, which runs counter to the idea of the show we are presented with in Season 1. Anyways, that's enough being glum. Here's hoping things fare better in Noxus.

  • @darransmith32

    At the end of the day this show exists to service the game. Non of the characters that exist in the game are going to meet their end as this would cause a continuaty problem (since the show is set in the past and serves to explain how the games characters got to where they are). From episode one, the gamers new Jinx, Vi, Victor, Jayce, Warwick, Ekko ,Kate ,heimerdinger and the doctor weren't going to die. But that didn't take anything away from the tension of the show for gamers and non gamers alike.
    The problem with season two is that it feels entirely written for the gamers (who don't need any hand holding or explanations as to whats going on) leaving the non gamers scratching their heads in confusion as things aren't setup or explained properly (15 episodes might of given more room for setups and explanations).

  • @shishio3647

    They don't really provide enough context because they did rush through so much in season 2. Viktor truly gave up his humanity when he told the doctor to start the process. He wasn't the Viktor we followed for the whole of the show at that point. It's why Skye was erased and her line of "no you won't" signals the end of the human Viktor. His line about upgrading everyone who is "willing" gets erased from him just as Vander is erased from "Warwick". At the point Viktor is in the hexgate room with Jayce he clearly believes that everything being "one" is the right path.
    Glad to have discovered you guys and gone along for this ride. Had me dying half the time. You guys are fantastic friends and the banter is some of the best I have ever heard.

      Even when things are done subtly they still need to be clearly conveyed. And if we're keeping it a buck, the Viktor c*m Christ ascension bullsh*t is just nowhere near as compelling to take up this much of the story when there are other characters and arcs that we were so much more invested in and feel super short shrift.
