Commercial Krant (1996) - Even Apeldoorn bellen - Centraal Beheer

Van krantenjongen tot miljonair... Maar is de droom van deze krantenjongen eigenlijk wel uitgekomen?
Achtergrond commercial:
De film 'Krant' werd in 1996 opgenomen. De film brengt deze keer niet de schadeverzekeringen maar de pensioenverzekeringen van Centraal Beheer Achmea onder de aandacht. Net als de film 'Piano' kreeg 'Krant' een andere tagline: 'Hoe dan ook een goed pensioen'. De film is dan ook een vreemde eend in de bijt van de Even Apeldoorn bellen-studios. 'Krant' is gebaseerd op de herkenbare droom om van krantenjongen uit te groeien tot miljonair. Maar de kijker wordt op het verkeerde been gezet. In zijn carrière blijkt de krantenjongen namelijk wel op te klimmen, maar niet tot miljonair. Hij brengt na al die jaren nog steeds de krant rond, alleen nu gemotoriseerd en in een veel chiquere buurt. Het eerste gedeelte van de film is opgenomen in de decors van de Universal Studio's. Het slotgedeelte in een dure villawijk in de buurt van Los Angeles. De rollen worden gespeeld door Amerikaanse acteurs.

Delivering newspapers was, in the time before internet, a very common job for a young Dutch boy to carry out before school. In densely populated Netherlands where people have small houses and small gardens, you'll deliver papers by walking all the way to the front door to deliver the paper, house to house.

Dutch people believe that in the US, where everything is bigger, newspapers have to be delivered by throwing them from a biycle into the garden, mainy because the gardens are so big that otherwise, you'll won't be finished before school. This idea is probably also inspired by the 80's game Paperboy. And there might be some truth to it.
That's the setting of the commercial. A hard-working American young boy apparently has a job during the Great Depression while most others don't. He keeps working all his life and obviously 'has his sheep on the dry' (is fortunated) when he retires. The clou revealed at the end is, that somehow is still has to deliver newspapers. He's got a motorized bike now. And might like his job. But he still delivers newspapers.
Like it ot not. That's supposed to be the problem where the insurance comes in.

@@marijnfly Jesus Marijn, you aren't exactly the brightest of the bunch are you? It has absolutely nothing to do with small yards or dutch paperboys. It is'nt even set the netherlands. The premise of the ad is that even though the whole world has moved on, from the great depression in his youth, to the new riches of the 90's economic boom, this paperboy/man is still doing the same work. The American dream supposedly passing him by completely. The end of the ad shows that even with a crappy job for such a long time though, you can still have a great pension with Centraal Beheer. Man man man, hoe verzin je het Marijn?

I'd say that the point they are trying to make, is that if he'd arranged for his pension with Centraal Beheer, he wouldn't still have had to deliver newspapers.

The clue was that he can still have a good pension even though he missed out on the oppertunities others had. At the end of the commercial it says: 'Hoe dan ook een goed pensioen', wich translates to 'whatever happens, you'll have a good pension'. Sorry for Marijn, all of us Dutch people are really embarresed of him because he has the cerebral capacity of an amoeba. He still has a great pension though...
