Thank you for covering the Skritt intelligence bit, they are my favourite non player race in the game and it's great to see you share that piece of trivia :)

There's an interesting tidbit in the skritt blogpost from Guild Wars 2 development, detailing a storyline that sadly didn't make it into game. It would be nice if the current devs actually implemented this little quest into the game, perhaps if we ever venture to the farthest reaches of the Far Shiverpeaks in a future expac to find, say, the teased Gentle Tide sanctuary of kodan and find the lone skritt from this story still hanging out there:
      > We had a quest chain that involved skritt at one point; although it didn't make it into the game, it was a fascinating story. A small colony of skritt came upon a tribe of kodan and listened to the kodan philosophy. As a group, they were able to understand it very well, and one of them was impressed and wanted to learn more. The other skritt left the area, but that one stayed behind to study with the kodan. Unfortunately, once the other skritt left, he found himself in a terrible position-he was no longer intelligent enough to understand the kodan philosophy or remember why he idolized them so much. The feelings remained and he stayed with the kodan-but, tragically, he would never be able to truly understand them. It was GW2's version of Flowers for Algernon. I hope that one day we'll be able to put that tale in the game.

Thanks for making the video. Just a little correction regarding Jennah in case anyone's wondering stuff about her powers. The scene of her defending Ebonhawke and fooling the Branded wasn't solely her doing. The Edge of Destiny novely heavily suggests that Anise was helping Jennah out during the spellcasting even if Jennah is mainly credited with the feat (likely for propaganda purposes).
Similarly, when she creates the dome to protect Divinity's Reach during Season 3 (as shown in the video), it's likewise suggested it wasn't solely her doing: she refers to herself with a singular pronoun during that mission but when she mentions the wards that would be activated to trigger the dome, she mentions "we," suggesting that she likely had help from Anise and potentially some other powerful mesmers and guardians in the city (likely from the Shining Blade given their connection to the queen) who helped prepare the wards for the trigger she set off. :)
There have also been other powerful human mesmers in history before Jennah. For example, the mesmer Koro Sagewind from what would one day be known as Gwen Thackeray's Ebon Vanguard cast a powerful illusion spell during the Ascalonian group's trip to the site where Ebonhawke would be founded as they were ambushed by charr although the spell was of such magnitude and required her lifeforce so that it blinded and eventually killed her:
    > As night fell on what was to be our last day upon the plains, the massive assault began. There seemed to be no end to the murderous charr. When one fell, two or three others were there to take its place. Dawn was barely breaking when Koro Sagewind called for people to break for the hills. Lawrence Crafton and Rigo Bolan stood guard while Koro cast the greatest illusion I would ever witness in this lifetime. A mystical army arrived from the north. Most of the charr broke off and, in feral bloodlust, charged the illusion. Koro's trick bought us the time we needed to prepare for the next assault.
    > Koro approached the camp at dusk, her two defenders nowhere in sight. Her pace slowed and staggered. Blood dripped from her face and, blinded, she tripped over a rock. She fell before our makeshift camp. Koro had tapped her own life force so that we would make it. Keiran held her in his arms in her final moments. She reminded him of the last time she had created such an illusion to save her unit, years before. Her parting words bolstered our desire to survive. She truly was the heart of the Falcons, but the Vanguard would not let her death be in vain.
    wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Founding
Another example comes from the female Canthan mesmer Kitah (not to be confused with the male Orrian mesmer Lord Kitah whom we encounter as a Risen during the Orr invasion campaign in GW2) centuries before the events of GW1 Factions where she cast a spell similar to Koro that would create an illusionary army, except hers kept doubling and redoubling to grow ever bigger to scare the invading pirates:
    > Three hundred years ago, when the thriving Canthan port of Dinfang was invaded by the people then known only as "naitahlen" or "pirates," the Canthan Army sent a small force stationed at nearby Fort Fu to put down what they saw as nothing more than a pack of rabid dogs. When young Kitah arrived with her troops, she discovered that an organized invasion was underway, led by the naitahlen admiral, Appollonia. Severely outnumbered and out-gunned, the Mesmer created a cloud of illusion that made her squadron appear to double in size, then redouble, then redouble again until her force appeared a great army. As she ordered the charge, the naitahlen scattered in terror, many running into the sea and drowning themselves. In the midst of the chaos, Kitah found Appollonia, a Warrior, and the two fought until both fell down dead on the battlefield. Dinfang was ultimately saved, and Kitah inducted into Tahnnakai Temple.
    wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Kitah
Justiciar Kimii of the White Mantle during the Krytan civil war likewise abused her mesmer powers to basically alter her victims' minds permanently, reducing their intelligence in the process of "curing" them of false beliefs:
    > Justiciar Kimii was responsible for the "re-education" of countless Krytans during the reign of the White Mantle, using her powerful Mesmer abilities to traumatize her victim's minds to the point of catatonia. She reduced some of the greatest philosophers and intellectuals of Kryta to drooling simpletons simply because they refused to accept the White Mantle's Unseen Gods as their own.
    wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Wanted:_Justiciar_Kimii
What's even more intriguing (and disturbing) is that the mesmer community or even the Mesmer Collective, which in GW2 time encompasses both a select group of humans and nonhumans (you apparently need to be sponsored by someone to be allowed to join this group of elites, which is why our mesmer Commander isn't a member as we haven't stayed still long enough to gain such powerful supporters to recommend us to the Collective's leaders), may actually regulate what spells aspiring mesmers can learn in a need-to-know basis as there are certain experienced mesmer spells that could cause great damage in nefarious or ambitious hands:
    > Q: Are the illusions created by mesmers visible to anybody or only to the caster and the spell target ?
    > Angel McCoy: This depends. Casting an illusion that can only be seen by one person is an extremely advanced skill as it requires getting directly into an individual’s mind. Only the most skilled of mesmers can do this, and mesmers don’t talk about this ability. If people were to find out that mesmers could do this, it would prejudice people against mesmers and damage the trust and love mesmers work so hard to inspire in others.
    > No documentation of this ability exists outside the Mesmer community because the targets of this kind of spell don’t realize they’ve been duped. No one else can corroborate their experience either, so…it’s often explained away as battle fatigue. Even within the mesmer community, knowledge of this kind of spell is “need to know” only, which means only the most elder and experienced are initiated into the circle.
    web.archive.org/web/20130814024227/esprits-dorr.fr/node/261
    > Scott McGough: As Angel and Yojimaru said, top-level mesmers may be able to exert genuine mind control, but if they can, they’re keeping it secret-if everyone knew, someone would work out a countermeasure. Apart from that, most mesmers use spells to create something like a post-hypnotic suggestion rather than turning a sentient being into their puppet. As such, they can get people to do small or seemingly unimportant things based in misdirection, but the larger or more obvious/contrary to their preference the thing a mesmer wants them to do is, the more likely the target will resist/their brains will say, “Hang on, why am I doing this again?”

So in short GW 1 Mesmers were much stronger than GW 2 Mesmers because they could use skills like empathy to only affect one person to gradually harm themselfs with their own attacks. Would be nice to have the same skills in GW 2. People would be a lot more cautious to fight mesmers like in GW 1.

    • @NaoyaYami
      @NaoyaYami 28 дней назад +2

He can technically return, but wouldn't it feel repetitive and lame to come up with another super-powerful battery that could restore god's power?
Balthazar was weakened after being imprisoned so I'd like to think that absorbing Sohothin's (Rytlock's flamey sword) power was enough only because it's somewhat similar to how if someone is fit but gets into accident, it's relatively easy to get back to their top form after rehab (compared to work you need to put it to get there first time).
Abaddon's power and aspect was fully absorbed by Kormir and she took it with her when she left with other gods (except possibly Lyssa as we learned here).
I don't think expansion about chasing gods would be fun.

I knew some of these things, sadly the lore in GW1 is somewhat obscured and in small hidden places in text that most people will never see let alone read. I am happy to see videos like this being made as it sheds some light on that lost lore, thank you for making this and hope you make more.

I've been a hardcore fan of GW2 since it's launch, and most of this was stuff I already knew. But that theory of Jennah and Anise being the two halves of Lyssa is completely new to me and makes total sense.
Also, a quick suggestion if you do another. Fyonna, one of the bosses in Twilight Arbor, has a pretty messed up backstory that might be worth a segment.

Like an example is all the books and NPCs in Kaineng talking about what is going on in Old Kaineng including Nika herself mentioning something about it! But there is lots of things like this throughout all of GW2, so I would be neat to see some of the better bits complied in to a video :}

About the "Jenna is Lissa" Theorie, this Theorie cant be possible anymore, because kormir says all Gods left this reallity (it´s another word, but I am not a nativ speaker, so "reality" is more like a filler word), and that Kormir and Balthasar were the only ones left but she will go aswell, because the balance is disturbed (because we allready killed two elder dragons at that point and we were going to kill the rest. I mean, Lissa could still have tricked the other gods, but I kinda disbelieve it

9:22 which is why I think he might be behind either Peitha or Eparch. Or even both. So many similarities to the old GW1 titan design, and in parts even Margonites (imagine Peitha with multiple sets of eyes and then look at a Margonite concept art). Hell, Eparch transforms into a giant spider in the Nayos meta event. Abaddon received his power from an ancient spider god.
In JW we now learn ***SPOILER*** !!!!! that the Kryptis looked for something on Janthir, but never dared enter the isles. A bloodstone perhaps?

could you do one on Desmina and or scarlet? I have/had a crazy theory that scarlet managed to take advantage of Desmina and the river of souls to prevent her self from going to the mists, so she could be reborn. Unfortunatly scarlets spirit gets summoned from the mists in end of dragons so he is likely just in the mists and my dreams of her getting revived are just non sense.

For those who have played Path of Fire, it might be that the Gods and Kormir that intervening against Balthazar is a bad idea. Kormir whilst powerful in her own right, it could be that really she was holding Abaddon's wicked power, as a vessel to not be opened(Pandora's Box). The post game of Path of Fire, after Kormir leaves the library is filled with demons, all likely from Torment. The Kryptis and the Realm of Torment are from the Mists. Just as the Midnight King is gone and so is Abaddon, those realms lost their Kings, but the magics, lands, and mist infrastructure are here to stay. Back to their established natures, which Peitha has a small inkling like the Midnight King. (this in literature is an ever Hell)
The only destroyer of the Mists was really Krakitorick, having remnants of the Fissure of Woe, Underworld, and Melandru's domain. Magic is everything.

Some context is missing. The Charr were so easy to manipulate into attacking Ascalon since Ascalon was the result of a god-sanctioned colonialism where the gods helped "drive out the locals," which in history is code for "killed a lot of them."
This means that The Six did a lot of heinous stuff before Abbadon turned on them, which again was caused by the remaining five maltreating him.
Every context regarding the human gods is rather important and no lie is bigger than them accidentally creating The Crystal Desert.
The ocean there is directly connected to the Endless Sea. That means that to shear away the water and thus create the desert the gods would have needed to unleash enough power to sheer at least five metres of water away on a global scale, and keep in mind that the map we play on is only 25% of the world of Tyria. If they had this much power then subduing the Elder Dragons would have been easy, instead, they chose to flee citing concern for humans.
If they had accidentally physically raised Elona from the seabed then the area would have been ravaged by massive earthquakes. The dwarves who lived there and underground would certainly have noticed that. Every vertical surface in the area would also have been affected by the earthquakes. There's no geological evidence for it ever happening. When Orr was risen to the surface it created massive underwater earthquakes that created the tsunami that destroyed LA.
There's also another missing element. The Crystal Desert is quite lush in areas, which means there's no salt in the soil, like at all. There's also the fish skeletons in Desert Highland. There's no way those would still be intact after 1000 years. They would have been sanded by the constant sandstorms in the area. Without being protected they would probably be unable to last even five years before they eroded away.
I do believe that desertification was already beginning when the gods fought and that the energies unleashed accelerated the process. The Five then told this revised version of history to Kormir who would believe it without question due to being rather devout when she was a mortal. This would also prove that, unlike what her existence implies, there's no objective definition of truth.
