I know the guitar you're referring to. But, Fender has put that "Starcaster" label on a bunch of crap models ..and low end Strat type guitars it gets confusing when people bring them up. There is even a Squier Starcaster witch is actually pretty playable. The real oddball was the one sold at Target and Wallmart with a triangle headstock for ... if I'm remembering right $169.00.
Have owned a JV60 for 3 years now, far and away my favourite guitar. I ended up swapping out the standard pickups for Fishman Fluence Classics and replaced the tone knob with another Push/Push to access all 3 voices (at the sacrifice of the 12dB boost 💔) and I've been really happy with it!
I love a single coil in the bridge and a humbucker in the neck. My first experience was a 72 reissue Tele Custom, then I found the G&L Bluesboy. Keep up the good work and sometimes you just need to go Ham on the vibrato.
Hey Mike, long time Bigsby user here. When restringing a bigsby, bend the tip of the string that goes on the little pointy bits at the back 180 degrees so it makes a semi circle and points back forward towards the neck. It will make restringing it a breeze :)
@@MrJohnnyDistortion Pickups don’t do a whole lot when you’re playing distorted. I’m sure he sounded the same with whatever pickups came stock on the MM.
I just bought this guitar. I noticed that the slit for the 3 way switch wasnt painted on the inside, so you can see a bit bare wood and rough overspray. Switch and pots are the cheapest made, cavity is a mess of wires. Tone knob fell off after some playing, and saw some corrosion on the inside of the knob. Volume knob was installed too low and made a slight indent in the body from activating the boost. I'm also just nitpicking, I expect little things like this on an import. This guitar is a beast, I'd recommend it. The neck has a very nice depth, and I lucked out with a ton of birdseye on my fingerboard. The pickups also sound really good, no need to upgrade them
I’m sorry but music man is super underrated there Genius guitar builders very high Quality. I like to think of prs as the modern equivalent to Gibson and music man as the modern equivalent to fender. Both great companies that deserve a lot of credit.
The PRS Vela has quickly become my jack-of-all-trades guitar-a Dynasonic-inspired single-coil in the neck, a Filter'tron-inspired humbucker in the bridge, and a scale length right between Fender's and Gibson's at 25". It does virtually everything well, looks and feels great, and was just over half the cost of my other guitars. Seems like you've found that in the Valentine sig 😊 The G&L Fallout is another great "one-and-done" guitar to check out!
I've never played a Vela, but I've always wanted to. It does truly seem like a "one and done" guitar. My #1 guitar that I use for almost everything is a HSS strat. It's 2010 American Deluxe strat that I've put Lindy Fralin pickups in, instead of the Noiseless ones it came with.
There's not many PRS guitar models you can go wrong with on picking up. PRS builds some sweet guitars, no doubt. How about those "Les-O-Caster" guitars? jk Blah,ha,ha!!! All BS aside, IDK how far this guitar builder is close to market this guitar. But, last year my buddy Mark who's Joe Walsh's guitar tech showed me this new mod guitar the builders gave to Joe. It's a pretty crazy idea they've got, yet very innovative at the same time. The mod wheel they came up with relates to this one guitar model they built that can create multiple guitar tone sounds of many different brands of guitars. So, if anyone's curious guitar enthusiast, check out this cool mod guitar built by "JKR Custom Guitars." When they do come to market the price is certainly out of my league unless I hit the lottery soon? The ballpark figure is gonna be around $6 to $7 G's. Even still, this mod wheel's worth a look if your interested. +Peace, Funk & Rock n' Roll 4 Your Souls My Friends+
I like it! I myself prefer to have a single coil in the bridge and humbucker in the neck. If a bridge humbucker isn't clear/bright and has a honky, nasally midrange I'll throw in a humbucker-sized single coil. I like having more potential brightness than I need on one end and more warmth than I need on the other so I can cover more territory. Other guitarists I speak to are usually surprised at that.
Dude. I love you man. You hilariously have the same musings and thoughts that I also go through at a guitarist- also mainly a church player these days. Keep it rockin
I have the original one in a gold sparkle and it is amazing. It honestly plays so smooth and promotes creativity. The fact that it has so many tonal variations is insane on top of the gold sparkle. I also happen to be a huge fan of flame on guitar and that neck 🥵
Mike, speaking of signature guitars, and since you're a strat guy...what do you think about the Lincoln Brewster signature fender strat? I feel like it has some of the uniqueness and intentionality that you respect when seen in a signature model
Fender already made a guitar that is a combination of an ES 335 and a Telecaster. It was the 1972 Fender Thin Line Telecaster. The body is chambered with an F hole on the left side of the body like that one and it came with 2 humbuckers. They're light and easy to play.
The average non-musical audience member can't tell the difference between guitar tones. Tone only matters to us. One guitar (maybe +1 for a backup) and some pedals is all you actually need.
You should look into the Squier Paranormal Strat-o-sonic, combo between a Les Paul and a strat with a 24.75 scale length. Great content tho, great videos!
I've had this guitar for about 6 months. It is unique in design & features and is very versatile. I should mention though, It's a bit heavier than it looks. It plays well and staysin tune and I really like the gain boost feature...
I have an Edge Pro tremolo in my Ibanez RG (Ibanez’s version of a Floyd Rose) that I blocked because I don’t enjoy it, but I have a Gretsch Brian Setzer Hotrod with a Bigsby that I absolutely love, especially with ambient styles and swells in a church setting
I could play live with just one guitar, and I used to when I played in bands. I've had a Schecter Omen 6 since 2010 and it was my main gigging and recording guitar for years. Since then, it's undergone major surgery, only keeping a couple original parts. 24 frets, double humbucker with individual coil splits, hard tail so I can keep it in tune, feels amazing to play after the professional setup, that's really all I could ever need from a 6 string electric guitar. I do have a custom Warmoth build, an Epiphone Les Paul Special II, and a Schecter 8 string though. But if it came down to it, that's the guitar, even though I didn't like it for so many years but couldn't get rid of it because I'd already started modding it so it was worthless to anyone else so I just made the best of it and it's a great guitar now.
I bought hight model and sold it. It was the best guitar I ever played. The handle is incredibly comfortable 25/20 The microphones in all their configurations, truly exceptional, terrific. I just bought it again because I find it perfect. I don't like MusicMan body shapes, am I too old to appreciate them? This shape suits me very well.
I was going to get an Ibanez RG Prestige with an Edge trem, but I've always liked the look and subtle functionality of Bigsby's. You'll definitely get a bump-up in quality with a USA Music Man, but they don't offer a guitar in this configuration right now, so it's kind of its own thing...
It's questions like these that remind me I'm always the odd man out when it comes to gear. The two guitars I'd choose are the two I own and have used for gigs for over a decade. My 94 MIM Strat and my Fender Sonoran SCE. Haven't played a show yet where I couldn't make either guitar sound like they needed to for a song.
Hey Mike! I actually have had this exact same problem (going on the road, but you can only take two guitars INCLUDING ACOUSTIC) and I came to a totally different conclusion, and I’d like to hear your take on it. I actually bought a 1967 Teisco/Silvertone ET-460/K4L for a touring worship internship for about $500, and it fills the single coil + humbucker style gap nicely. The four single coil pickups can actually double up to create both a neck and bridge humbucker pickup configuration, and it comes stock with Teisco’s version of a Bigsby from the 60s. What’re your thoughts on a guitar like this? (Love the tones you’re getting from the JV60 though, and those features may get stolen for the purposes of including them into my next guitar project)
i’d prolly grab an explorer for a nice fat humbucker sound (it’s my favorite humbucker guitar lol), and probably a super strat for more virtuoso stuff (preferably a floyd rose and 24 frets). yes i’m a metallica fan, how’d you guess?
Two guitars? Do they have to be existing production guitars? In that case, my two guitars would be either two Ibanez RG9PB or two Caparison Apple Horn 8 guitars. All tonal variety that you'd get from fancy electronics can be somewhat emulated in your playing or in the rest of your gear.

I got a John Petrucci signature from Sterling with a Floyd Rose and I absolutely abuse that thing! The JP’s are some of the best super strats money can buy.
The thing that frustrates me is the Sterling version has a completely different neck profile and width than the EBMM version. I fell in love with the Sterling version and wanted to upgrade to the real deal, but my hands are too big for the super narrow neck on the EBMM version. If EBMM released a Valentine with a wider nut width, I'd pay them all of money.

Maroon 5 are way of my radar but Valentine seems to be a cool guy. I think the ideas in his guitars are well thought out out and would be interested to try one. After, I don't listen to a lot of Les Paul but have owned his signature guitar for over 30 years!
i've had several different guitars. Went on an expensive PRS rabbit hole. After 2 years and a bunch of money I realized I'm a Gibson / Marshall guy. So now all my guitars are Gibson. I have at least one of all the current Gibson styles. LP, SG, EX, FB, & 335. If I had to pick 2? The 1st one is easy. My LP Custom R9. My next favorite is my Explorer, but if I had to only have 2 to do everything then I'd probably take the Firebird V.
I saw Steve Howe (of Yes) in the '70's and to his left he had a guitar pit with 30 various stringed instruments, yet he only played 2 or 3 all night long.

i had 17 guitars and then i got a valentine, i started to think about selling some off as i was really only using the valentine and a couple others. fast forward maybe a year and i got a couple other guitars, one of them being a prs studio. that week i sold off 10 guitars and the following months i sold off everything except three. valentine, prs studio and a silver sky. with these i can do anything. in saying this i want one of these new semi hollow but hardtail valentines. SO GOOD i swapped out the stock pickups in my valentine for a set of beefy p90's, still retained the db boost which was great, if the sterling version had a coil split like the usa version i would keep a HB in the bridge. the best part of the velentine, the angled body, its super comfy as there isnt just a thick slab under your arm (which is why i dislike les pauls)
Bro impossible question. I play a lot of stuff, from technical death/black metal, over hardcore punk and wave up to blues, jazz and acoustic stuff. I have around 30 guitars for each genre & their subgenres 😅 but in the end of the day we all came to the point that you can use a Les Paul or a telecaster/strat for nearly everything, so I also would pick one of these I guess… but maybe more like one from ESP/ltd, cause I made the experience that Gibson & fender aint the real deal these days. Some good Japanese/korean stuff from the 80‘s will made a better job. So I send my wife to you when she ask why I need another one, thanks for that. My first video from you just found today & love your vibe! I just follow metal guitar dudes till now, so never had a touch with maroon 5 or their guitar player
Alright, in answer to your questions: This guitar and James Valentine are great. Personally, I am not a massive Bigsby fan. If I'm going to have a trem, I prefer a floating Strat trem. But I have the same problem as you have, and occasionally need to relegate myself to playing a Tele in order to get myself out of the habit of grabbing the bar every time I hold a chord or note

But I have the same problem as you have, and occasionally need to relegate myself to playing a Tele in order to get myself out of the habit of grabbing the bar every time I hold a chord or note
Gibson neck plus fender tone
Did this guy just imply that his favourite band is Coldplay? Lol
Two guitars?
I'd take a Westone Spectrum III (HSH, coil split and phase switch giving 13 different voicings).
The other guitar would get left at home.

Behold, the Fibson
Squier strat-o-sonic
If I can have my dream pedal board. I’m just taking a strat and an acoustic
Could be lame and say my variax, but id take my strat with blender knob mod.
As long as I can coil split the humbuckers, I just want a Les Paul.
