Normal walking land on a step with the heel, the kendo guy land his step on his toes, that draw more power into the strike, make you more faster and it is healthier for your legs and foot, also it make you move more silence
kendo guy doesn't bounce his core as much as walk, he also does a psuedo shuffle with his feet with the balls of his foot landing first. Arms also do not move as much
So that we can always use our feet to push in whichever direction we need to in a moment's notice? If your front foot's toes are doing normal walking you can't push back if you need to evade. Same goes for back foot. It could also be a cultural thing but I'm not too sure about that though....
I once talked about the way of walking in Japan and yes there are some similarities used in Kendo, but I don’t think they are that big of a deal. On the other hand I think you are spot on about having the ability to push our selves on the direction we need.
@@KendotipsI saw somewhere that they move with the balls of the feet downwards so that when viewed from the front it is hard to tell when they step forward. Don't know how true it is though.
@@ttchme9816 That could totally be a reason, if you keep your toes down you lead with your knee which could make it hard to tell, but for me is also about having good grounding to push off efficiently.
This is kendo ayumishi the thing diffrent is that you HAVE TO keep your fingers on the floor just sliding There are also Okuryashii which is very diffrent the left foot is always behing qnd the right is always first And there is suriahii which is okuryahii but faster like running but keeping your fingers only on the floor😊
I'd assume it's to not commit to a movement until the last second. If you start with your heel and put ur weight on it, good luck retracting ur foot. That's my guess
So I don't know just guessing by the video, instead heel toe its toe heel cause it's easier to change footing from the toe rather than the heel? Lemme know of I'm was on the right track🤣
Isn't this for not making sound of the wooden floor? Like the "Creeaakk" when the wood is old. This or something like this, maybe even for some battle tactic
How and why is kendo footwork different from regular walking???
Same height?
Toes to draw more power

Lmao I instinctively kendo walk. I guess playing tag really change you slightly lol
I guess that he might be able to control his body to use the sword.
To keep your height at a linear level and not bounce up and down which could throw off your balance

my mom alwys told me to stop walking without my heels...
