Not only did Jason do a great job at the reunion concert, he was the only one that could do it and still call it Led Zeppelin in my mind.

I don`t disagree with that, but there are drummers out there who could have done it too. Tommy Lee is one of them. You might laugh but Tommy`s style is very similar to Bonham`s. It`s simpler and more int the pocket, but Tommy has that back beat Bonham had.

This makes me so emotional. Bonzo created such a unique drum style and helped form a piece of some of the greatest rock music of all time. To see his son carry on his legacy and to have his band mates welcome him in and have such a connection is amazing. His father would be so proud.

No one in this world has beaten their super genius father in any field when they set a trademark and became number one in the world on what they did. So expecting Jason beating his Dad is just unrealistic. Either enjoy his drumming or go listen to John Bonham, instead of coming here and throwing negative comments about a son who badly misses his father and remembers him through his drumming. Jason no matter what, Daddy is extremely proud that you are holding it up to his legacy. Thank you.

    • @Alistair

exactly. It's really sad to lose a good friend and father, and I think that it's beautiful for the son to step up and take part. I lost my dad when I was 17 and I felt in his shadow for a long time.

Yea, but don't you think they feel a bit obligated to praise him? Would you put down your friend's son?
Ultimately, he just does not have his father's feel for the rhythm. I'm not saying he is as bad as Lars from Metallica, but he jsut does not have that feeling for the rhythm that his father had.
I think you get the remaining members in a closed room and they would all say that as well.
IDK.. that home video of him playing just makes me think.. damn dude,, chill out and slow down! But, maybe he was just really excited and could not help it.. but even then you know there is a natural rhythm to the sound and you have to keep that accurate metronome going in your head.
he can play all the beats in pieces.. he just has trouble flowing naturally with other musicians , IMO!

To all the naysayers, have you ever played with a band as hallowed as Led Zeppelin? Really impossible unless you've played with Led Zeppelin! Well Jason has! I think one of the most moving aspects of this is how seriously Jason took the 1988 Atlantic gig .. oh, and also what JPJ had to say about Jase following his specific bass fill from a show from Chicago in 1975 .. hmm, and how according to JPJ, when Bonzo had prompted his son to assume the throne (and a throne it most definitely was), so he could check on his sound, that JP played on thinking he was still playing with John! There's a great generosity of spirit shown by these Gods .. too many instances to cite .. but most certainly in evidence here. I am infinitely proud to say I've been introduced to Jase, many moons ago. Honestly, the thing that springs to mind most, thinking about all this, and as I type this tears are literally welling up in my eyes, is how it would feel to be in Jason's shoes, losing your Dad so unexpectedly, who clearly loved him so very dearly, and who encouraged him to follow in his truly giant footsteps. I salute all involved in this tribute, including Bonzo (RIP, physically no longer with us but most definitely there in spirit), but most of all Jase. God bless you all ...

Well, actually, he hasn't really played with Led Zeppelin. That's like saying you played with Skynyrd after Ronnie Van Zant died, or with The Doors after Morrison died. That said, Jason played with the surviving members of what was once a band called Led Zeppelin, which is pretty bloody cool in and of itself. I would imagine just being around the remaining members of LZ makes Jason feel closer to his dad.

I saw Jason at ROTR and couldn’t believe they weren’t on the center stage! Jason, if you ever happen to read this, know that I appreciate you playing. It was amazing! I wanted to see play the drums since the mid 80’s when I saw your video on the TV.

I would imagine just being around the remaining members of LZ makes Jason feel closer to his dad. That's what he's really yearning. That 'thing' that Bonzo had, or that any person with a special talent and charisma has can't be replicated. I will always admire LZ for recognizing that.

Imagine the dynamic of Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Jason Bonham who relive their dads every day through their profession. We are able to pick the times we remember our dads. Every time Jr. got in a race car, he was reminded of, and compared to, his father. Same with Jason...imagine hearing his dad's music every day. Rough.

I am SO happy for him. NEVER FORGET WHERE YOU COME FROM.

That's some *serious* kahunas .... And skills! I love your dad, and probably will never stop missing him. But what if we didn't have *you*. What if you weren't awesome like a beast? What would we do? Thank God for John Bonham and thank God for Jason Bonham.......Because we thank the great Gods above and the Universe for *LED ZEPPELIN*.
    You work it out.......

Oh what a lucky person you are. Seeing Zeppelin in concert and then seeing Jason on his own. It is amazing how Jason has been able to embrace his dad and his memory full heartedly and yet, do his own thing as well. This kid has no hang ups. He is part Zeppelin and their legacy and willing to take his dad's place and be the drummer that his dad was - taught by dad from a youngster. And then go out and be his own musician full heartedly. It is amazing how he can combine the two and be so well balanced in this as only Jason can drum for the periodic reunions that Zeppelin has

What I respect most about Jason is that he earned his way to where he is now! He could have gotten pretty far just due to the fact that he is his Fathers son! Any up and coming band as well as a lot of established groups would have loved to bring him onboard, just for the recognition alone, but that wasnt good enough for Jason he wanted to do his Dad (as well as himself) proud and earn his stripes, so that's what he did and that is why he is an awesome drummer today!

The same sort of thing happened to me with Ozzy, I had bought two 5th row seats on Randy's side of the stage, to see Ozzy Osbourne on the Diary Tour, I was 14 and was hanging around older folks and started experimenting with Black Beauties & Everclear, my mom thought I was sick so she took me to the doctor, they admitted me into the hospital for 2 days and the doctor didn't release me on time and I gave up my tickets to my best friend, Randy Rhoads died about two weeks later. I was devastated!
