1st: I had a dingwall from Canada. The upper (longer) horn was too short. Like on all Dingwalls for me. The horn should go to around the 9th fret. It is better for the ergonomics for me. I told it Sheldon. He said it is okay like it is. He did not really care, I think. ...the design, label (brand), prices has psychological effects.

2nd: if you are starting to be interested in gear. Really fast you are diving to deep. I think every bass-player should try the "cheaper" basses in a mix and with people who do not play an instrument at all. At the end I sold my Dingwall. And I have my Ibanez SR Multiscale. It has the same problem like many fanned fret basses. Higher string tension on the deeper strings and the pickups are sounding different. Same like the Spector with the EMGs for example.

I got one used not too long ago and modded it with Nordstrand Zen Blades, Nordstrand Tone Drop, and a Darkglass ToneCapsule. Tone wise, completely different animal now. One of my favorites in my collection...

That was the route I wanted to go for with this Ibanez but had to let it go. I’ll revisit this bass again soon with mods and install the new multi coil pickups coming soon from Nordstrand

@@sonojon0 I've been keeping an eye on news about the new multicoils too. I swear Carey is going to make me declare bankruptcy soon.

@@rapidfirerob4 Sweet...I think you'll be more than satisfied with them. Especially if you wire them in series.

3rd: So I put a Bass Extender on the Ibanez Multiscale. The Strap is around the 9th fret now. The ergonomics are much better. I have a D-Tuner at the Bridge, for the E-String. And I can put a A-Tuner on the Headstock for the B-String. For koRn and so on. The ekectronics have character and I like to change the mid-Frequencies. The measurements of the pickups sucks. I am thinking to change the pickups. Or to use a pickguard and try many different pickups. Multicoil-Pickups would be interesting.

This is what I’m looking to redo next year if I come across another Ibanez multiscale bass

@@sonojon0 the prestige models are very good. Worth the Japanese handcraft. But I guess it is a way cheaper to experiment with pickups. ... the non-musicians liked my Ibanez Multiscale most. I don't know why. Perhaps they were unbiased.

I'm considering a 5 string one to have just to have on standby for deep tunings. That or the btb605ms, iron label, or btb805ms if I can find one for 1k still

4th: for bass-players who play just in Standard-Tuning I would by a normal 4- or 5-String Bass. With 1000$ there are very good basses. Specifically used one. And for the fanned fret players. If you are happy with your Dingwall, Spector and so on. I am happy with you. But I tried so many brands and everytime I missed something 😕 So why not mod a "cheaper" fanned fret?! At the end I can order one from a luthier. But I need to know what I am looking for.

Yes. It’ll work without a battery. You just won’t have access to the active preamp.
