One thing that happened in my production journey was that when I first started producing, my tracks were super mono but sounded like ass. Then I discovered stereo imaging, and all the plugins to make things wide, and I went the opposite direction. Tracks super wide but sounded like ass. And the more I learned, the more I noticed that the best tracks out there are super mono compatible with just the right amount of stereo with.
If you can sound amazing fully mono, its game over!
Preach my brother you've gone through the journey and we must serve our community. With this video, I hope to set people down this path.
Most sound presets from different vst instruments are really wide. Do you make them more or even conpletely mono?
@@cottoo1 I usually turn off any fx that will make a sound wide (reverb, delays, hyper dimension, etc...) And then add the amount of stereo information back with my own techniques and preferences so you have more control over the sound.
Beep Beep!Best Producer & Best Teacher combo.
You're impacting a whole generation of new artists, fr u teaching some of the futures grammy award Winner
Just want people to be able to express themselves if we got a grammy winner let's get it TOO!
We needed that. Thank you for your work Zen!
Lol
@@ZenWorldwe? Stop trolling bruh bruh
Yes WE ME AND YOU. I must take credit LOL @@decapitateallcops3214
you are the man. best production videos on the internet hands down, keep these coming
8:27 onwards this could be the best advice any one has ever given to an artist. Thanks man!!
TETA
did my boy freedo dirty with that reference lmao
I love how you cut out your own voice when you begin to waffle and move on to something else 🤣its the the little details that make you who you are zen, great video ninja!
That's back to business, you're back on track dude.
Video came just at the right time! Was struggling with space and clarity, and I don’t even have a stereo imager lmao time to get 1
1:06 always with the best tips
A lot of this stuff is solved also with side chaining using the eq option. It works better as it is a dynamic approach with competing frequency's. The technique is probably worthy of its own video.

Very wise thanks for sharing
Exactly what I needed Thank you. I never thought I could autopan the hats like this . Saving this as a preset cause this autopan on hats was not distracing, I normally hate autopan probably because I suck at setting it up lol. This was such a good class, I also learned some TrueVerb early reflection tricks for stereo placement without even adding any reverb this week. Difference was way too subtle. But for slow tempo and less instrumental records I think difference was pretty audible. But I think panning wisely like this should be more than enough . best mentor, Zen Master. cheerz to youuu
needed this thank you king
I forgot to say, this track is insanee😭release please
Good stuff like usual! 🔥
No cap, you are the best teacher ever! Everytime I see your video I stop to watch and learn. Thank you!
No cap? It's cold out, go buy one.
Zen, fire as always! Much luv❤
Love the vibe!
LFG !MORE OZONE VIDS !!
gold!
and love so much your passion and energy ( and jokes ;) )
Thanks !!
Dude You are underated, what you're doing, teaching all this stuff for free is really amazing
One weekend Imma go through your past videos and start taking notes 🤣🤣
Do it my bro. All his tutorials isa gift to my music journey🙏
@@cekirdekci32 right! Too bad I gotta do try to translate some of these techniques he shows in his videos to fl studio plugins 😅😂
Another thing, if you need a system-wide EQ, I recommend Equalizer APO and the Peace GUI. Not ideal, but free and certainly useful.
That track is sooo catchy
This applies to hardware also. I have stereo imaging modules for my eurorack setup and its my secret weapon (since 90% of eurorack is mono anyway).
Bass Station 2 with stereo imaging will bring. the, bass.
Yes Analog is where I learned the importance of MONO like digital is too stereo in stock formats... We need more MONO Guidance and it makes life easier
Spectral. Not only spectral, but symplectic geometric dynamics integration. Oh and with a rather novel g1 continuous bezier interpolation (optionally) and arbitrarily assignable range mapping for harmonics. You know, to obsolete PCM, DSD, etc.
I’ve watched at least 20 of your vids and this is top5 most helpful imo. I’m focused on dubstep (including sound design. fk sample packs) where every little detail matters so it REALLY sucks when I put in tons of time then can’t hear what I heard in my daw when the song plays together due to clutter in frequency. THANKYOU! 🙏
The chose one Neo back at ittt
Bro your tech house sounds too trancey 😂 but seriously thanks for the vid I learned a couple of tricks as I always do, legend 👍
Any time! And always my friend im gonna dethrone Armin Mark Knight 😆
thanks buddy
I learnt something today. Thank you
That I dance good 😮 ❤❤❤ 🫦
Oh and the reason say, laptops (particularly), PCs, etc don't often have higher bitdepth higher frequency DACs is because of the potential feedback, EM shielding, heat, etc issues. I kid you not, my little cheap bastard $9 USB 32bit 384khz DAC actually gets kinda hot, however, because it's external from say, a laptop, a usb-c to usb converter (which sort of functions as a heatsink) used to connect it, no issues. Sounds ace. Latency in Reaper is 0-1ms on average hardware.
Been following you for a few years man I’ve learned so much about Ableton from you! You got great energy and you a bean like me so I fucks with you hahaha
On fire with this one. Definitely don’t want my side chick and my wife getting into the same room😂😂
Also, for those with crappier setups, I highly recommend you get a 32bit 384khz (or better) DAC or something (they're super cheap and super effective). They're really simple and direct these days. essentially 4bytes*384000 is quite comfortably handled with a thingy that looks like a little cable, basically. Don't be fooled by the music industry's overpriced ass. Oh, and a winamp DSP named Enhancer (which is free) is useful, the crappier your gear, the more useful it is, it's free, you can use it in say, foobar or DAWs with a bridge.
thank you so much i have question about stereo placement and 3D sound,If I put my drums in the back to create depth in my track, another sound like lead should be in the front, right?
good video
Amen 🙏🏻
dude that song is fire! will it ever be published??
1 label I eyed hasn't listened... Maybe IDK I need to clean some stuff up in it. But demo is there ready to go.
tiene ritmo esa Testa :
teta
Dude this song is 🔥!!!! Send the project file 🙏🙏🙏🙏
You've missed a fundamental part of the story. The arrangement and sound choices can also provide you space. Go listen to a producers name, Hex Hector, and Mac Quayle. They were the best at less is more production. They both were mix engeneers who became master of the craft.
sidechick and wife comparison lmaoooo
If you explain this to your wife, don't use the sidechick analogy
😮😮
I just hard pan each instrument to each side & nothing fights ever.
Yes even the kick & bass.
My Mix is godly but its horrible to listen to.. you get an ear ache from the kick, snare, & hats.
Don’t make it extreme to my brother LAUGH😅 YOU GONNA SOUND LIKE FLUME
@@ZenWorld hahaha
Love you shit bro!
Beep Beep
side chick and wife... dead
this is not underrated at all really. i've only ever seen people saying how good it is
