    Mayleen! you are awesome! I went on my second interview and it was horrible (my first one was mortifying). I literally cried all day today just feeling really dumb for failing twice. I stumbled across your video and you made me feel so much better! I love how you are a teacher now looking back at yourself saying "don't worry, you will look back at this one day and laugh when you are a teacher" that was amazing to watch you looking back as a teacher today . Thank you so much for sharing this video.

    Thanks for sharing! My first interview was confidence breaking as well. For starters, I was 90+ applications in, the school year had already started, and the principal didn't even know he had another interview. I had a clear view of his office as I sat there waiting and the person before me was in for about an hour just laughing and chatting with everyone. I feel he interviewed me because I was there but was already set on hiring someone else. He asked me questions about things I had no idea about and made no eye contact. I left there deflated. Fast-forward: I was hired on the spot at the 2nd place I interviewed and have been there for three years now. However, I planning on changing schools and the idea of interviewing again has me nervous.I have accomplished so much over the past 3 years but somehow I still reflect back on that interview.

    This just made me feel so much better! I had such a similar experience except it was over Zoom so I couldn't turn off the lights - but I nearly cried. I wanted to hang up and claim technical issues. I finally put my head down and apologized for how bad I was doing.... yeah. Terrible lmao Still haven't landed a job yet but trying not to let it get me down! Very inspiring that you are reflecting on your pre-teacher self and that your experience didn't hinder you from finding your dream job! Thanks for sharing

    Thank you sooo much for sharing this. I’ve wanted to be a teacher for so long, but kept chickening out because I’m really shy and nervous! I decided I’m finally going for my alternative certification this year and have to keep reminding myself that other people are going through the same feelings. So this was truly so helpful.

      And DON'T! I remember thinking through so many scenarios and being so nervous. It hurt me so much! I know it's easier to say it than to actually do it, but just know that everything will be okay, and what you're feeling is so common. xx

      Thank you for appreciating it, seriously! I was incredibly nervous to post. I just know there's so many people who come off perfect and I am 100% NOT. I was hoping it would do something to make people feel like it's okay not to be perfect, and even if you screw up, you can still be okay!

    My first teaching interview was TERRIBLE. HORRIBLE. There were 10 people in the interview, and my phone literally went off during the interview 🤣 needless to say, never heard back from them 🤣 I didn’t cry during the interview, but when I walked out to the car I called my mom and cried. Fortunately I got a job at another school, but this is going on my third year of teaching and I’m actually applying at other schools so my fingers are crossed I’m more seasoned this time around 😂

      Oh my gosh!!! I have heard horror stories of people walking into interviews with 10+ people without expecting it. There are some things that are just hard to prepare for! I am glad to hear you did end up getting another job, and I totally know you will nail the next interview too!

    Sorry this is a long post but watching your video made be feel a lot better.
    I’m trying to mentally prepare myself for my first in campus class. I’ve been a ECE major for 2 years and managed to take online courses only. I went to register and met with the professor of the class which is also my advisor and department chair and she was excited to have me in her class, so I preceded to burst out in tears because I was so anxious and everyone in the room was staring at me wondering what to do. Thinking about having to get over my nerves and own anxiety to go to class in a week and a half has to be one of the hardest things I have had to do for college, the unknown and lack of experience has me a mess. Even now I am in tears at the thought of having to go to class I can’t locate in the building where I know none of the other 7 students.
    You seem so put together as a teacher and to hear that even when you were working in a place for months, you were still anxious and didn’t know what to expect the first time made me feel a lot better about having to go to class and the future insecurities. If I knew what to expect I would be fine, but like you said there’s nothing to prepare you for what you do not know or experienced.

    • @MrsCallsCampers
      @MrsCallsCampers  5 лет назад +1

      First - you will be okay. It can be hard! The "unknown" is always the scariest part about anything, and like I said you really can't prepare for what you don't know. I am glad that you can see that you aren't alone because so many people feel these things but don't talk about it. I remember thinking about all my peers and just knowing how great all of their interviews were going (or at least how they felt about them), meanwhile anxiety was eating me up! I would say that no matter what, just know you deserve to be there, you are capable of anything, and it will all work out no matter how uncomfortable/scary/nerve-wrecking it feels. xx

    Interviews are the worst and I have had plenty of them. I've been in those huge group interviews and they are SO intimidating! I've said plenty of stupid things in interviews too. Just in case you ever need it one day... one thing you can say about yourself is that you learn and grow from your mistakes!

    • @MrsCallsCampers
      @MrsCallsCampers  5 лет назад

      They are, and I completely understand why they do them, but it's hard for a lot of people. (I think.) And thank you! So true!!

    I feel so bad for people that interview at my school--we've had around 20 people before! I'm talking people sitting on the floor! My principal extends an invitation to the entire grade level team that has open spots, so sometimes we get a crazy turnout to sit in!!

  • @TeacherInspirationStation

    Oh no! I think we all have had a "bad interview" story. Your turning off the light story was so funny though! It's great you can laugh about it now. Seven people in the interview? Wow! The most I've had was 4 and that was probably once. Congrats on landing a teaching job! 😀

    • @MrsCallsCampers
      @MrsCallsCampers  2 года назад +1

      I didn't! It depends on the grade and so many things but my suggestions are to keep it SHORT, so don't pick any crazy concept, and make sure you get the kids talking!!!! Lots of chances for them to interact, build knowledge, etc. A lesson with good visuals will be helpful! You do NOT have to go overboard or do something crazy. They more than likely just want to get a feel for your teaching style. I'd even start with "so yesterday we learned.....today we are going to......" Or something close lol. I hope that's helpful. Good luck!

      I did, and interviewing for them was fine :) I've worked at fast food restaurants, as a server, at an aquarium, etc And I always loved the idea but never took it seriously because I was so bad at public speaking! I start thinking about it more in college.
