this is Yet more proof that competent sound design tends to matter a ton when making a good horror game, no matter how short or long. When simple footsteps can be unnerving, you've done well.
When you're home alone and _not_ walking, the sound of footsteps is always unnerving.
Sound in Horror is everything, preety much everything else can be shit, or amazing, buf If the sound is bad thats just a bad horror game.
Sound in any media is very important. That's how you build the atmosphere.

I hate (love) how the music is quieter when you turn around, very unsettling. It's like the safety of the game's world goes away and you remember how vulnerable you are.
In my opinion, this game recreates very well the feeling of playing a happy game late at night with the lights turned off

From what someone once pointed out before, you can notice a bottle of acid and bucket in the kids room. Best bet is this game is reliving the last days of a thief stealing stuff out people's houses, and then the kid sets up a trap to turn him into melted cheese. Funny how the villain got punished (albeit a little extreme), but still came back as a vengeful spirit. Very Freddy Krueger-like of him.
Yup. Hence the title changing from "Replay" to "Rep ay" in the final moments of the game. You're the kid who disfigured the thief, and now he's here for revenge.

...Oh heck. That changes the whole story. WE'RE the thief breaking into other people's homes. That's why there's blood around us before our house gets broken into. We probably stole the game. Then at the end when the game character switches, its not just a graphic change, it actually is someone else - the 'corpse' comes to take our revenge.

I love that ending part. The idea of playing as the monster that's coming to get you in real life, and every footstep in the game you can hear being taken outside

Extremely, EXTREMELY great atmosphere for this game. Spectacular setup and payoff for this kind of premise. This dev did a fantastic job building up the scares.

the constant comparison of reality and the game is so well done, the way the bgm changed when the player left the house with a corpse inside, the door creaking open, it's enough to give me goosebumps

This was creepier than I thought it would be. As you merrily guided your thief to steal, weird things happened that weren't necessarily correlated to the thief alone. This I think gave it a more uneasy feeling. The steps were great and so was the 'monster' model.
The thumbnail makes it look like the skeleboy is like "what's up bro? what ya doing?"

The VCR snow on the in-game game is disconcerting, but it must read "old-timey" to the devs. But to those of us who remember VCRs, It's as weird as buying a vintage car, and whenever you drive it, it's got VCR snow on its paint job.

Well the game isn't on a tape right it's directly the output from the console. The kind of visual artefacting doesn't make sense.
It reminds me of that one game that pretended to be an online game, but had VHS snow and settings.
As though the gameplay was recorded off of a computer, onto a VHS. An unnecessary step.

To give credits where it's due... the cable could be slightly lose, and you'd get those artifacts on the screen. It happened to me sometimes on my nes.
Sound design carries this, that was genuinely effective despite how short and simple the game actually was. Good stuff.

As I know, this is the third time this concept has been visited. I think I still like the skeleton delivery one cause you can at least pause the game to look around the house to find the next part of the game. I hope we get more future games with this concept along with their twists.

This was genuinely a really scary game but the end jump scare was a bit much LOL, I think it would've been stronger if you just saw a man running up to you and then it goes dark. But it was really good sound design wise, and the graphics are pleasing too.

i love this game. i think it captures lot of the childhood fears very well with the open door, light emitting from the tv at night in the dark alone, noises you can't really explain...all while you're supposed to be having fun!

I love the simplicity of it, and that entire concept of controlling your character towards the end, only to realize you're leading him straight to you is incredibly unsettling in the best way.

It has the same kinda premise where you are in a house playing a video game on a tv inside the game, which worked really well for a VR setting!
