I appreciate Amanda's jolly vibe and how it meshed with the rest of the cast. It kind alleviates the usual snarkiness of this podcast (which I do love in its own right). Glad to have seen her on!
The Invisible Man isn’t actually a licensed character. Anyone can make a movie about him. In fact, with the exception of the Creature from the Black Lagoon, all of the “Universal Monsters” are in the public domain.
The characters are not, but , for example, the look of the classic Universal Frankenstein is licensed - since it is an original design not inspired by the book. So you can use Frankenstein, but he cannot be green, flat headed and have bolts on his temples.
Also The Mummy and The Wolf Man. You can have a mummy or a werewolf, but you can’t have The Mummy or The Wolf Man without permission. The exact likeness of the Jack Pierce Frankenstein monster makeup also belongs to Universal.
Otavio Cordeiro Actually, you can use the likeness of the famous Frankenstein monster makeup if you just change the skin colour, even if it’s just a different shade of green. In Hotel Transylvania, a Sony film, they used the famous likeness but changed the skin colour from a pale green to pale blue-green. I think other studios usually change where the bolts are too. You see them in the head a lot of the time.
@@ajzeg01 I’m just waiting for a Frankenstein film that follows the book as closely as possible. The Robert DeNiro film still borrowed a lot from the Boris Karloff version, including giving the creature a stitched together appearance. Also, it wasn’t a very good film in general.

The Invisible Man is actually a public domain character that anyone can use, along with Dracula and the Frankenstein monster. However, The Mummy, The Wolf Man and the exact likeness of the Jack Pierce Frankenstein monster makeup all belong to Universal. You can have a mummy, a werewolf or do your own thing with the Frankenstein monster (changing the colour of the skin is usually enough, even if it’s only a different shade of green), but you can’t have The Mummy, The Wolf Man or Universal’s Frankenstein monster without permission.

*Sardonicast:* “Onward doesn’t look or feel like Pixar at all” *Also Sardonicast when talking about Soul:* “All Pixar movies follow this exact same formula now. They just keep recycling their same ideas over and over again”
CG cartoons are so synonymous with Pixar now that they've accidentally created a perpetual feedback loop where nobody knows who was original first, to the point that lack of originality has reached a state of singularity and now all CG cartoons just have that barren, soulless look to them
What's so weird is that they expected soul to be this character study that takes place in new york. Like its animation of course they're gonna do something creative with it.
@Eaxl I didn't say there was anything wrong with it. But its pixar and pixar makes movie for kids and what pixar does is they take a kid like story with colorful and creative animation and add mature themes in the midst of it. I would’ve figured he’d seen Jodorowsky’s other works and Santa Sangre put a pretty heavy emphasis on the Invisible Man character for one of its scenes.
Amanda the Jedi? I kind of expected this, since I know Amanda and Adum have run into each other at film festivals. This is a good choice. Amanda's unironic love for Phantom Menace resonates with me on a deeply personal level.
