- Are the proportions difficult for you to figure out? Did you know that with the use of basic shapes, you can draw a horse perfectly? In my video, I will teach you the step-by-step process for drawing a horse’s head, as well as the entire shading process using just a simple Sienna Brown Prismacolor pencil and an Art Gum eraser. It’s a great skill that you can apply to any animal drawing. Best of all...the finished product is a beautiful horse in Sepia form; ready to display in your home, office, or to give away as a gift! Either way, you will love your creation. Be sure to watch for my next video that will be a time lapse video of this horse drawing being turned into a beautiful oil painting. Don’t forget to subscribe to my channel! I have many amazing videos coming up.

I really appreciate that you work on the drawing freehand from the start, with reference image visible, and with voiceover.
To observe (and listen to) the drawing process, the shifts, the changes, the corrections, is very very meaningful and educational.
And, more horses, please!
Five Stars for all the sharing of the drawing process - visually and woth voiceover.
Wow that horse is mad
I was looking at the negative space as you worked. Great job of continuing to measure and adjust. Impressive skills.
Thank you! Glad you liked it 😃.
This looks great and it is very helpful for me as well
Thank you! Glad you liked it 😊.
Excellent! Thank you!
Also, the large size of this drawing really helps. Thank you
Also regarding horse morphology, horses do have lips - which is how they so carefully graze grass and eat grains, etc.
Knowing the horse morphology helps to know the horse.
Thank you
😊 thank you!! I loved how you explained everything and I was able to follow with ease. Still working with proportion, but I think I did a good job on my first try!! Especially with the shading!!❤️

Thank you! ❤️
What do you feel is the benefit of using colored pencil vs. regular graphite pencil (or charcoal) for doing the underdrawing? And, do you always do that level of shading when you are going to be painting over it anyway? Thanks and nice work.
Hi! Charcoal and graphite smear and discolor the paint, and it’s very difficult to cover. Usually, you will still see the gray of the graphite in the paint. The beauty of using a brown Prismacolor is that it doesn’t show at all underneath the paint. And yes, I prefer completely shading before painting to establish my lights and darks, as well as fine detail that could easily be missed while painting. It serves as a map, making the painting process much easier.
@@TheArtChik Great, makes sense. Thanks for the reply!
