- G'day folks. I often get asked which is the better entry level Gold machine, the Minelab Gold Monster, the Manticore or the Equinox 900. After some expert advice, thanks @PetesGoldAdventures, I have done a short test to find out. But bear in mind, the results will always be dependant on your own situation/area.

Thanks for hunting out my RUclips channel.
My name is Andrew, so why do they call me The Coffee Bush Kid? I may have found the odd gold coin or two in the middle of the coffee bush where others fear to tread.

Very interesting thanks Andrew 😊
Thanks Mr A. nice to see that the 900 has not been forgotten against the Beast.
Interesting Andrew! Cheers 🍻
Thanks CBK. Good demo. Mind, I think they all have their application. its hard to justify to the Missus that I need em all. lol
I was in the gold fields in the late 70s early 80s around Dunnoly trying to use a green machine from an earier company, around 10 or more years later I purchased the sd2000 and headed back to the goldfields, I went from total confusion to total bliss, from an ear blistering cacophony of noises to serenity, and gold. I'd rather wander everywhere with a detector than be restricted by unwanted noise, so of the three you tested out , only one would not be in my kit. Though I don't doubt it's quality in the right conditions. Cheers Andrew!
Great info thanks for sharing stay safe out there have a wonderful week
Great comparison Andrew
Thanks for the comparisons, Mister Coffee Bush, and the technologies involved at work, and where and why the single-frequency won't. We'd fiddled early with single frequencies on the Equinox 600, attempting for signals in quartz, testing first with known sizes and purities at home, found quickly frustrated in the field attempting with fiddling about, you'd just leave it on Multi IQ for maximal capability. Single tone can get the feel of a gold mode, volume maximized for the appropriate notches of target ID numbers, although the small gold will sound loudly without displaying a number, oddly, with retrievable sound using the thin polycarbonate, yep, garden variety drink bottle, refashioned. We'll attempt fashioning a creek scoop - but which two litre sauce chug to use, BBQ brown or tomato red?!
Great info, Cheers Rob
I have tried to tell people that the gold monster is unstable for heavily mineralised ground like we have in Western Australia, coped a bit of flack too.
I still use my monster, which I bought when they first came out, to check species. It’s also good for finding things you lost near big metal objects, like a nugget near the car or caravan.
I don’t love it but I don’t hate it either. I reckon the battery lasts for months, doing what I do.
Thanks for sharing another great informative video Professor CBK. This comparison test has given me alot of food for thought on which way to go on which detectors to get first. Thanks again. Cheers mate. 👌👌👌👌👍👍👍👍🤜🤛
Thanks for that interesting comparison Andrew.Cheers.
Nice comparison vid Andrew. I ran a monster for a couple of years and although I use to find gold with it I had to take a lot of breaks to clear the ears a bit and reset. On the quiet pipe clay it's a killer for small gold. Ran the nox 800 on the gold yesterday for a little while and found small fragments of lead so I'm sure if I swung over gold it would have picked it up also (that was in park mode too coz I didn't like the sound in gold mode haha). Thanks for sharing.
Gday Andrew yea had the monster for a bit
Donnie Pascoe told me put it on all metal get a signal then turn it onto gold mode
Worked right away and found my first bit right after it ay
Lots of ways really
Great little test yeew finally just got my gram up lol lol slow go8ngs haha
Cheers 🍻

I think that Monster would make my ears bleed 😂 although it did quieten down a bit! Nice comparison mate. Safe journey next week
Less than 2 weeks ago, I had my Monster on auto with the now known push in ground balance button. (It didn’t say anything about this feature when I purchased it in 2020). I had a large signal about 1 foot deep in this mode. It turned out to be a folded up aluminium pie tin lol, but it was great to see that the monster can still detect that deep on fully auto mode. Also I find it much quieter when you do the fully auto, hold the button in ground balance. 👍
Excellent channel , always educational and interesting 👍
I have had good luck with the auto settings as well. Keep it balanced and you can run through an area pretty quickly. As for depth, it found a few 1 gram pieces at the 12 inch/ 30cm range. that same dry wash tailings pile had been detected to death previously. Another time I thought I was on a big nugget and at maybe 14 -16 inches I was gifted and nice silver and pink tor plate of dentures. That one got a few laughs back at camp. One never knows...
I'll stick with my 900. Great video!
Well done Andrew.
Cheers Famo59

Nice test, but that’s a nope for me, I go out to enjoy the bush, finding relics and panning creeks, don’t care about the gold to put up with that noise all day, not something I like. But good luck to those who do. Thanks for sharing.
Jeff Holmes I’m with you on this, agree, the noise is irritating and relics are more interesting history etc😀
MUEY BUENO Andyroo.
Over the years I have become used to how chatty my monster is. Still queiter and somewhat less annoying than some kids i know. I also use a 6000 which at times is loud and likes to have a chat whenever a plane flys over or another detectorist comes within coowee of me. Lol
Yep but the way with things now I bet ya see the machines in question end up at speedycash scary hey .😮
the manticore and the 900 run on the same frequencies how do you expect them to be different. then the gm 1000 which runs on 45 khz. ??? you dont change ground. you adapt to the ground. me california. i have the 900 and a gm 1000. have a good day
We are really struggling with the price difference between the 900 and the manticore.. we have 900's, we are looking at pulling the trigger on a manticore but just can't quite justify the price. Can you convince us otherwise ? 🤣 Great work
@@primalchant1577 2D screen. You saw the splodge. In trashy ground where nuggets hide it is a great help. Good luck with the decision 😁👍
900 all the way
Hi Andrew will the monster find gold the others cant
@@martinhamblin-q3t a lot of variables in that question. Ground mineralization, size of gold and to answer properly, you would need all 3 detectors to swing on the same target 😁👍
I look forward to that video.
thanks 👍
