  • Here's What I told My Son the Truck Driver about the Future of Transportation
In this video, I talk about a heartfelt conversation that I recently had with my son, who works as a truck driver, about the shift that's happening in the transportation industry towards autonomous trucks. I shared important insights and advice to help him prepare for this significant transformation. Here's a detailed overview of the key points discussed in the video, along with timestamps for easy navigation:
The Rise of Autonomous Trucks (0:07 - 0:41)
In the near future, the trucking industry is poised for a major transformation as autonomous trucks become a reality. Companies like Gaddi Kodiak and Aurora have already announced their plans to remove human drivers from their trucks by 2024. While there are currently operators inside these trucks, monitoring and sending data to terminals, the driver's role will be phased out, and remote facilities will take over the truck's operations.
    Ensuring Safety (0:41 - 1:17)
The paramount concern for my son, and all truck drivers, is safety. As autonomous vehicles are introduced, it's crucial to maintain an impeccable safety record. The rise of autonomous trucks is, in large part, due to the pressing need to reduce accidents on American roadways, which saw over 40,000 fatalities last year. Avoiding tickets, accidents, and practicing extreme caution on the road is paramount.
    Building Experience (1:17 - 1:37)
For those contemplating a transition to autonomous truck operation, experience is key. While my son obtained his Commercial Driver's License (CDL) over a year ago, he must continue accumulating experience. Many autonomous developers recommend at least 2 to 3 years of experience before becoming an autonomous vehicle operator.
    Developing Soft Skills (1:37 - 2:03)
In addition to technical skills, soft skills are equally important. Communication, teamwork, and customer service skills are vital as autonomous operators will be part of a team managing the trucks remotely. My son, who's used to long periods of isolation while driving, must adapt to effective teamwork and communication within this new framework.
    Preparing for the Future (2:03 - 2:26)
To assist in this transition, I'm excited to announce a free workshop on January 24th, where I'll provide valuable insights and guidance. Click the link in my bio to learn more about it. Being proactive and well-prepared is essential to ensure a seamless transition into the future of transportation. There should be no surprises in your life as these changes unfold.

That's what the ATA says anyway, but I don't take every corporate grift seriously.

You should do research and not assume it wont happen. because they are already on the roadways.
