I lived in Jubail for 4 years. This movie has nothing to do with the reality and there is absolutely no indication it will ever happen. A good computer animation, though.
It's an effort to ween off depending on oil, but it's not obvious to me how KSA will populate this area, and/or compete with Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Doha in attracting foreigners. Oh, it's just a redone oil town nvm about weaning off oil.
What a dream. This should have started 30 years ago when I was here with Petrokemya, but Jubail is still a dust bowl. Don't hold your breath waiting for this to happen. Abu Dhabi and Dubai build stuff in the matter of a year or two and I am talking about mega structures while Saudi struggles just completing 3 story apartments.
