Peter is one of my 3 or 4 favorite players, but his game is nowhere near where it needs to be for the P/L. I know he will say otherwise... but he HAS to say that to keep his own confidence up, same as a fighter or any other athlete/competitor. I think Chizzy should be in. I know the spots from 5th to 8th are "open" but I don't like the idea of leaving out number 5. The last two spots... ok... give preference to "major" winners who are outside the top 8. I think Smith is out. I think Bunting is in. I love Johnny Clayton but I think he's out. I think Damo is out and Price needs a good run in the World's (like a semi-final). I think they should offer a spot to Anderson. Statistically he's been one of the best players in the world over the last 24 months.
Unless he makes a semi or at least a quarter final Wright shouldn't be in. Although it's tough to say who should be in instead because nobody other than the Lukes had a really outstanding year
What about Martin Schindler? He would jump into the Top10 with an appearance in the Semifinals of the WC. And the PDC ist just waiting for a German to be a candidate for the premier league to get more attraction on the german market.
His win against Ryan Searle in Basel, for me, is one of the best matches of the year...but he's got a tricky 2nd round match in store if Rydz performs at the same level as he did in 1st round
Lets be honest, no big names outside Lukes/MVG/Anderson have had good years and most have had shockers. Time for exciting form players like Ross Smith and Wattimena to be given a go.
This is deffo the hardest year to predict in my memory. I was literally saying to my mate the other day that if you’re not even in the top 16 you can’t be in the prem (ruling out de dekker) I would agree with someone in the comments I don’t think Gary would accept and for me also price is deffo in. The other spots I honestly can’t say nobody has had a good enough year to be in there except the lukes
James Wade has no chance,De Decker has a slim chance,Smith shouldn't be considered as he hasn't done anything since winning the 2023 WC and If Wright gets another Freebie it would be more embarrassing than him playing last years PL
I like your reasoning and selection. I do believe that ranking should take precedence and that the top 4 places should be automatic, that 3 more should come from positions 5-10 and that the last place should be given to someone from the top 16 (places 5-16)
I agree with most of your picks. I think MVG, the Lukes and Cross will be the top 4. Price stays in and Anderson is also in. Then i think its 2 separate shootouts, with one of Wright or Aspinall staying in, then one of Chisnall, Bunting, Clayton or Heta joining
Heta wants it so bad I'm having extra prunes in the morning just to keep myself regular. Matt 'lego man' Porter could clarify with a mission statement "meet the future, meet the best" and bring back challengers.
At this point de decker’s sky title might get him in on its own. Outside of bunting Anderson and price I don’t see anyone with a good case for it (unless someone goes deep in the worlds)
I know there isn't a set criteria for selection in the Premier League, but I find it hard to justify selecting Price after he has barely won a game on tv all year, sacked off loads of events and constantly whinges about not wanting to play darts anymore. Especially when there are loads of players who have worked hard and dedicated themselves to every tournament this season.
Wright! Your M M M M M M Mad sir!! Surely Chisnall gets in. I'd also have the Heat in there. De Decker still in the frame. Anderson is adamant he is not going to go which brings Josh Rock and Van Der Bergh into contention. Can't help but think that Nijman will have a great Worlds and be in the frame, he is good enough.
Remember luke littler was world rank 31 when he got his premier league spot so de Dekker at 23 in the world has got a good chance plus i believe jonny Clayton, joe Cullen and chris dobey were all outside the top 16 when they won there masters titles to book there final spot into the premier league and with de dekker being an overseas player gives him even better chance as i feel sky and pdc would prefer more variety of nations in there rather then mainly English. Anyone else agree?
I really like his list for the most part, but I think Wright out for DeDecker, Chisnall or Heta would be better. I'd argue replacing Price with one of them as well, but that'll depend on the world's results.
After watching the matches yesterday (and I know he won’t get in) I actually think someone like Scott Williams would be great in the PL, with his flashiness, and especially to get that experience against the top guys. Would probably make him a more dangerous player playing the top guys for 4 months. Bit as for other players I think they NEED to put in Damon Heta, he’s got the personality and the same as Scott Williams playing the top guys for 4 months would totally improve his game and I think bring hi lots more confidence, so maybe we would then see him win a major.
All the players in that second half of your list are really popular and are “box office”. That’s the key. So I think you are right, but for Peter Wright, a lot depends on how he plays in the rest of the World Champs. Not even his results, it’s how he plays.
Cannot see Gary Anderson accepting it. He's in a good place at the minute. Top 4 plus Gerwyn Price, Stephen Bunting and no idea on the other two places.
Can't see Wright making it myself, unless someone big happens to pull out or he makes a good run in the World Championship. My 8 is probably: The Top 4 Gerwyn Price Dave Chisnall Gary Anderson (Peter Wright if Gary says no to turning up) Whoever has the best WC out of the following (Ross Smith, Bunting, Heta, Clayton, Dobey, Van Der Bergh)
last year's performance in the Premier League & not done much since will eclude Wright. I know Price hasn't performed much better but he's still top 10
Wright 100% shouldn't be in unless he suddenly has a really good world champs. He's been averaging under 80 in some matches. If he goes out in the next few rounds then no chance.
Wright is a no unless he reaches the final. Agree with the choices but replace wright with whomever gets furthest out of chizzy, Ross smith, dobey or de berg
Replace Wright with Heta. Replace Anderson with an unlisted name based on results of the World Championship and the UK Open. Maybe Van Veen if he has deep runs or Dobey.
If Wright loses next round, he's not in, and shouldn't be either. If he has a run, I agree, he's in. They're gonna have break away from the Major winners automatically qualifying, Edhouse and DeDekker, would leave to many top eight players out. Only if Edhouse goes to the quarters, he's in.
I think he explains it quite a bit in this video when he says "It's about stories". If you have a whole field of underdogs, you don't have much of a story when they play each other. If you have ONLY the top players, it becomes an "old boy's club", which makes it harder for guys who aren't Littler to break into the League. I mean, you have to admit getting Anderson back in there would be great, and he's outside of the top 8.
The Premier League is not a tournament but a showcase. So, the easy solution is the Top 8 and nobody else. However the PDC is thinking ££££££££££. Which means they can get more money with tv rights sold in other countries for instance with De Decker, Schindler and Heta in the Premier League.
Luke Luke MVG Cross Bunting Chizz Heta De Decker would be my personal pick assuming Anderson doesn't want it but im sure there will be a runner who puts their name in over the course of the worlds like Dobey or Van Veen for example
I think if Chizzy or Heta gets a good run at Ally Pally (say, Quarter Finals) they'll be in. Heta would be interesting as a debutant. If Ando would accept the invite it would be good to see him back in
The way it's going they might have to revamp it again . Certainly room for more players now with the standard the are playing at . Price has said he would stay and has promised a better year for 2025 . Has a bit of his mojo back . Anderson saying he wouldnt , you never know if pushed he might, couldn't ignore him if he has a good run . Your de Decker and Hetas in with a shout I'd say Edhouse if has a good run??!
I would pick De Decker instead of Wright, for the rest I quite like it. And maybe someone with an incredible run at the Worlds instead of either Ando/Price
I enjoyed your narrative Matthew , I think someone will come in on the blindside, someone not fancied is going to get a run at the worlds possibly Josh Rock he's due something soon I feel
honestly I still think Michael Smith will be in, he is just too well known to not be in. De Decker I don't think will be in, after this performance at Worlds I'd play it safe and leave him out for a year. Price and Wright I'm unsure, Wright would need a deep run at Worlds to be an option for me, same for Price.
Wrights interviews alone could take him out of contention, hard to push the sport in the direction they want when one of your 8 elite players is very obviously steaming drunk and talking utter bollocks after every game he wins, which fortunately for the PDC isn’t very many at the minute
Hey Matt, you’re mad for Wright for some reason. The guy is Premier League poison. Aside from reaching a final a few years back he’s nowhere. Current form shows he’s not entitled to a place. He shouldn’t have beaten Plaisier at the worlds, he was simply very lucky.
Honestly this Prem is shaping up to be very poor even though Smith Asp Gezzy have had poor seasons they are 3/6 players who command a Prem flare and you know will entertain alongside the Lukes and MVG. A Prem of Butning Heta... isn't all that enticing tbh. They don't command that same name pull and flare to their game. But rn I'd go 2 Lukes, MVG, Asp, Cross, Chizzy, then Bunting and a player from the Clayton section I think make the World's finals potentially Dobey
I really believe from that Gezzy Clayton section whoever makes the final from that is in so it could be Josh Rock who was originally my shout a few months ago
At last, a video whe I disagree with you! I'd be very underwhelmed by those choices. I think 1 more overseas player so Heta if he makes semis or goes top 5, otherwise Dimi if he gets to semis otherwise de Dekker by default - he's a good watch (unless of course Doets or the legend that is Dirk make the semis). I agree that Price is a must and you make a great point re top 16.....
Surely you just stick the old favourites in people who watch like watching the best players dont they? You dont want them gettting confused thinking those players they was watching 12 months ago wasnt actually the best
@ I did mate still don’t get it other players have done so much more this year and plus wright has been terrible this year and last 2 premier league’s keep up the great work mate

I don't really think Wright is even in contention. His form average wise is awful for the whole year. In 2023 and 2024 he played Premier League but finished last place with a clear distence to the 7th ranked player. He only achieved 7 wins from 39 matches and we have no reason to assume he will perform better in 2025 at the moment. I guess you will be having Chisnall in his place and the final spot will between Anderson, de Decker or Heta. Maybe a surprise form the Worlds when someone like Dobey reaches the semi finals. But 6 of you're choices i expect will be in.
Cannot believe you mentioned Wright! Just because he has green hair and wears pyjamas, doesn't mean he should get a guaranteed shot. Bored of seeing the same old faces. Anderson ... yes, he's been outstanding this year and also throw Heta in there.
Littler Humphries van Gerwen Cross Bunting de Decker (or Dimi if he will achieve minimum TOP16 in WC) Price (possibly Clayton after better result in WC than Price) Someone after nice World Championships (maybe Dobey) *Assuming Gary wouldn't accept invitation
Clearly the players don't like this format. I'm not a massive fan of it either. It gives a winner every night but it doesn't really feel like it means anything and I can quite easily miss a few weeks because I am bored of the same format every week and then watch it another week and there is barely any connection between the 2 nights. The old 8 player league format worked best but it needs to be different to every other tournament, it feels like every Euro Tour/Premier League event is the same. Give us the old league format or the old championship league format. Something different please! Its tiring
No shot Wright will be in unless he goes huge at the Worlds. He was barely an option last year but won a major out of nowhere, got nothing now.
His premier league campaign just made me feel sad. He just looked like he was no longer able to compete against elite players.
Peter is one of my 3 or 4 favorite players, but his game is nowhere near where it needs to be for the P/L. I know he will say otherwise... but he HAS to say that to keep his own confidence up, same as a fighter or any other athlete/competitor. I think Chizzy should be in. Father Brown did not make the list again. I hear that on Christmas day he is going to throw darts and everyone else is going home.
There's no point in assigning the spots now, the biggest one of all is being played and it is THE deciding factor.
You are having a laugh including Peter Wright😂

I guess you will be having Chisnall in his place and the final spot will between Anderson, de Decker or Heta. Maybe a surprise form the Worlds when someone like Dobey reaches the semi finals. But 6 of you're choices i expect will be in.
Cannot believe you mentioned Wright! Just because he has green hair and wears pyjamas, doesn't mean he should get a guaranteed shot.
Bored of seeing the same old faces. Anderson ... yes, he's been outstanding this year and also throw Heta in there.
Peter wright no chance.
Ando doesn't want it.
Smith will be in aswell as
Chizzy/heta
Peter has done nothing all year and had an awful PL last time out, I don't think he makes it unless he actually wins the world title for a third time.
Peter Wright are you having a laugh
Peter wright lmao. Nope not even close
Heta will be in wright is out
Smith, snakebite should be out!
Littler, Humphries IN

Edhouse should go IN.
Van Gerwen IN.
Dedecker IN.
Wade OUT!
Ross Smith IN.
Chizzy IN
Littler
Humphries
van Gerwen

Bunting
de Decker (or Dimi if he will achieve minimum TOP16 in WC)
Price (possibly Clayton after better result in WC than Price)
Someone after nice World Championships (maybe Dobey)
*Assuming Gary wouldn't accept invitation
Def no wright he was so poor
Clearly the players don't like this format. I'm not a massive fan of it either. It gives a winner every night but it doesn't really feel like it means anything and I can quite easily miss a few weeks because I am bored of the same format every week and then watch it another week and there is barely any connection between the 2 nights. The old 8 player league format worked best but it needs to be different to every other tournament, it feels like every Euro Tour/Premier League event is the same. Give us the old league format or the old championship league format. Something different please! Its tiring
Michael Smith should be nowhere near
