Yes it should work the same. The 2 are pretty similar in overall design. Just remember to take the lower bolt out first, you want to do this while the suspension is under tension to help the dampening tube from rotating on you. Sometimes I put a socket on the upper cap so I can flip the tube over and compress the suspension to increase tension on the dampener for those really stuck bolts.

I’m changing the oil on my ‘89 and don’t want to mess with the seals. Will the damper come out like this on the older ones?
