For a reason I didn't understand until we were empty-nesters, both times my wife was pregnant, I really, really, really wanted a boy. God gave me the desire of my heart both times, and my sons are now adults. What I didn't realize until my sons were out on their own was the reason I so strongly wanted boys - I wanted to put an end to a line of bad fathering in my lineage. I could raise a girl to be a good person and good mom - but I couldn't raise a girl to be a good father - I had to have sons.
