    There was an African American lady who traced her route back to Uganda by keeping her parents history and indeed she went and found her African relatives in Northern Uganda. Our parents always tell us about the history of slavery and we still remember you guys. All African countries are so welcoming but if you have chosen Ghana, its all good because many of you may not know exactly where your great grand parents were taken from. i feel so happy about this if it is indeed happening. welcome back home.

What's going on people Ghana is more beautiful than what you showing the world. Its like showing the poor down south communities in America as the totality of America Or the ghetto in the Bronx,Brooklyn or queens as the beauty of America. That would be unfair to America because we have Time Square,Las Vegas, Washington DC to mention a few. So please showcase the beauty of Ghana to those who think Africa is so poor so they will change their perception and find Africa appealing to come to.

    Obroni doesn't mean White Person period. This name was coined around 1490s when the Portuguese showed up. Our fathers initially didn't understand them neither did the Portuguese. Also, there are no Islands around or along the coast of Ghana, so the dialema was to figure out whether there was land somewhere inside this huge body of water, which is the Atlantic Ocean. Few people said yes, because the Portuguese arrived in wooden boats. However, the large number of people thought that though it was true, yet couldn't convince themselves that land could form in the Ocean.
    So, they decided that Obroni is the individual who has come from a far away place or location, where getting there is to swim. So, those locations our parents didn't know are now America, Europe etc, etc, because a Ghanaian could only get there by swimming.
    Our way of describing "swim or swimming " is "BRO NSUO" that is swim in water or a river. So, OBRONI or ABROFO will mean the individual or persons who have come from very far locations the way to get there or back is to swim. As I stated initially, the name was coined in the 1490s and no modern writers have attempted to correct it, and it came about when only White people came from those locations, our fathers didn't dream some day Black people would come from Europe and America to visit or stay.

      There are different accounts too. Bor is Fante and nsuo is Twi. Most of the Twi speaking Akans live in the hinterlands and got to know of the Portuguese later on. There other accounts where their skin was compared to that of a maize(husk) "eburow" when it's get contact with the sun and another how they move on sea slowly "br33w".
      From your account they should be "aborfo not abrofo" but they didn't come swimming they saw them in boats and ships.

The idea of moving back home has very little to do with infrastructure, if that is the case it would be better you stayed in the states. Amongst the lacking there are tremendous room for entrepreneurship and innovation needed and that is why the country is more attractive now. Think about what I’ve just said.

      I wonder what the infrastructure was like prior to 1957?
      Ghana has been around a lot longer than the US.
      Longer than 10 years any way.
      So what's the hold up?

    • @paulmacpaul3389
      @paulmacpaul3389 6 лет назад

      True talk, the infrastructure deficit can be very frustrating , sometimes annoying .The dusty streets, slow internet connection, constant blackouts are just a few. Ghana can do better and shd do better!

    • @bigjml
      @bigjml 5 лет назад

      Because a lot of the infrastructure is the same as it was in 1957, you can see how some roads don't make sense because they were designed for driving on the left then in the early 70's the Acheampong regime changed to driving on the right copying Nigeria.
      Corruption and mismanagement is sadly the cause of a lot of Ghanas problems. Hopefully Nana Addo and the NPP can right most of these wrongs over the next few years and in there second term in office.

    thanks for the upload, my college classmate from nigeria talked to me about this very topic of americans going to africa and starting businesses and hiring the locals. after college he went back to nigeria to run his uncle's business. he also mentioned that people shouldn't come there if they have no useful skills or money. and that there's not going to be any govt benefits for them because it's a hard life there. he talked about warlords, boko haram, al shabab, communist militias, etc and if they start trouble you better ante up and fight them off because there's not going to be any running away to Europe.

    I wish that was longer, and went deeper into the life of those expats. How do they make a living in Ghana? Did they bring their SOs from America, or found new partners there, or stayed single? Did they bring children over, have children there, or remain childless? Did they learn the local language (twi), or kept speaking English? What are they particularly glad to have left behind, what do they miss from their old life? One got a hint of an idea that they are outsiders in Ghana, but a different kind of outsiders than they felt in America.

    If any of the commenters feel my comments were condescending and disrespectful, I sincerely apologize.
    We African-Americans built America from the ground up. We have skills to contribute that if working together, would help Ghana be greater. However if we can’t contribute to Ghanaian society then what are we coming there to do?
    We certainly don’t need to come, sit and watch you and simply appreciate your culture.
    Understand that the term “asset” means of value to anyone and everyone.
    But, I guess African pride would simply relegate us to bring subject to a new type of racism and that we’d still be “Niggers” in our own land.
    So why bother coming to Africa, at least here in the USKKK, we know how to navigate around White racism. Based on comments here, we’d just be an invisible people all over again.

    Lois mentions that it is disgusting that everything in America is connected to race. That is true. She understandably wants to escape from that, which is her right. At the same time many Ghanaians would like to emigrate to USA either for study or for work. A lot of them are doing very well and are building big houses in Accra and Kumasi with the money they earn overseas. Ghanaians or Africans have a different background than African-Americans, I suspect that Ghanaians are aware that there is racism in the countries where they migrate to but expect it less of a burden than the poverty and corruption that they have to deal with back home.

    I'm African first and foremost, born and raised in Ghana. I've also lived in the UK, Australia, and the US, just completed my masters and making preparations to head back to the Motherland and help rebuild.
    I talk to my brothers and sisters in America any chance I get to pick their minds and maybe, just maybe try to get them to think a little differently from how they've been conditioned to think along with most people in this country. Part of the problem lies in your leaders, you have none, and the ones who pretend to be are all talk. From MLK to Jesse, they like to talk. Only problem with that is freedom is not given and often not negotiated with "talk". America fought for hers in 1776, so did almost everyone else including Ghana in 1957 (led by a fearsome woman Yaa Asantewaa. History must not forget)
    Let me be blunt!
    IF you think, the white America will give you your freedom through talks and demonstrations...think again mate! The greatest trick they pulled on you was killing Malcolm X, because X would have led you people out of this miserable life.
    My advice is simple, stop shooting each other in the hood and stand up to white men when they put you down. I mean christs sake you're descendants of AfriCANs. The blood of my forefathers from the Bantu's, Akans, Ethiopians, to the Zulu nation run within you. You beat each other up over pennies yet you let white men walk all over you in this country and you do nothing. Freedom is not given my brothers, it's taken. YOU must seize YOUR freedom...it's that simple. You need to stand UP for yourselves. Read books, educate your children, focus on mathematics and science, it will not be a quick fix but it is possible. The human mind is a very powerful tool, put that brain to work, out-fox the fox. Of all the black population on Earth you're in a position to actually lead if you put your mind to it. You have a whole continent of people your kind hungry for information/knowledge. Focus on what's important, focus!!, and stop wasting so much time trying to get famous. Alkebulan will always be your home, if you choose it so but that's is your choice. The mind is a powerful tool, use it!
