    jazakumAllahukhairan from minneapolis, minnesota. you inspire me to make myself better. not be a dabbler. instead, to become more diligent and dileberate in all facets of life. i started studying arabic for a little over a year now. it has truly shown me the value of language and its true place in human existence with a clarity i was never even able to imagine before. i truly love your effort with zaytuna and pray Allah (SWT) preserves you and the program making it a benefit for the world!

    Assalaam-o-Alaikum wa Rahmatulla:
    Jazaakallhu Khairan
    I have this book (How to read a book) in both print and in audio format. I find Shaykh Hamza's comments very enlightening. His words add another dimension to the understanding of the original text. I would listen to these lecture over and over again. I would strongly recommend these lectures very strongly to anyone who is interested in learning to read in depth, which, as Shaykh Hamza has mentioned so gracefully, is the key to our tradition.

    It's 'How to Read a Book' by Mortimer Jerome Adler, first written in 1940, but the later edition (1972 - if I'm not mistaken) has some contributions from Charles Van Doren.

    @bukkietime101 Let me start by saying this isn't a criticism. I also watch good videos multiple times. In part 1 Shaykh Hamza speaks about reading as being an active engagement, but watching video is a passive engagement. Here is an example. I ride mtb and I watch videos about how to ride different types of terrain or get through technical sections. Those videos give me a GOOD IDEA about how to do those things, but I won't KNOW HOW until I get on the bike and try doing it.

    I would like a reading list (in the order to read) for a muslimah. For example, start with The Sealed Nectar, etc, and then what, Purification of the Heart.. etc etc. I would be grateful if Hamza Yusuf or someone of knowledge would give me the top 10 or 20 etc reading lists about Islam/self-development/non-fiction (with maybe some classics). I see on Hamza Yusufs Website he recommended Sense and Sensibility and a couple of Dostoevsky's books..

    @humanadvice They are inshallah planning an online free teaching option for those unable to attend. It consists of lectures like these and will include a lot more in the future inshallah. Most Ivey League schools are now offering an "online" portion of their school for those who have difficulty in actually being there and paying. I know Zaytuna is also adopting that soon, but they have enough on their hands, so we have to be patient inshallah. Also, apply for a scholarship. Most do. Ur in my dua

    Zaytuna College offers generous scholarships to those who are unable to afford the tuition. This is all dependent upon the financial support of the Muslim community.

  • @luigicapuchin
    @luigicapuchin 13 лет назад +1

    @humanadvice let the community get together and give a scholarship to someone trusted who'll teach what s/he learned at zaytuna upon return. also, dr bilal philips online islamic university is tuition free, so there's always that option.
