I’m Australian and listened to your lecture. It provided some good background to the novel but did not explore or analyse the authors meanings and his purpose for writing it. Voss is a megalomaniac who believes he is a God and thus he is a madman who lead the expedition astray. He is German after all and led himself astray with the philosophy of Nietzsche.
